Definitely go check out Cary the Snail's video on this. 12 days into October and I am still alive! Only Consuming Physical Media That Fits On This Shelf For A Month (An Experiment) th-cam.com/video/8rVXuDUqt4c/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zlGkIAiHvf8DyHfD
I love this idea, as I’m also feeling overstimulated by digital everything. I’ve got to say though, I don’t think you will run short AT ALL over a month with your shelf. That might be close to enough for me for a year! Have a wonderful tech detox.
If you love "retro game challenge" as much as I did, I recommend checking out the sequel! It is largely more of the same but with a wider variety of games and systems, including a great detective style game. There is a fan translation ROM out there, since it was only released in Japanese originally. Good luck on the challenge! The original video by the Snail inspired me to set up some app limitations on my phone, it's a small step but already my doomscrolling time is way down.
You know I just found a patched fan translation of Retro Game Challenge 2. I'll have to definitely check it out because I have an r4. Retro Game Challenge 1 and 2 recently got a Nintendo switch remaster and so I'm holding my breath and hoping that we get translation of it So far I'm greatly enjoying the lack of notifications on my phone. I am going to carry a lot of the lessons from this forward. I'm probably going to keep my physical media shelf as sort of a shelf of items that I'm currently enjoying.
I actually messaged him before making this video. I asked information to heavily reference his video and he said "dude you don't need to ask permission" and I was like yeah "I do cuz I plan on like completely copying what you're trying to do and I would feel bad for not asking permission for it". Still I learned I learned a lot from doing this and will be making a follow up video about it.
@@GamerGuys447 I don't want to rush it and I have some other videos to make, but November 15th is when I'm planning on having my follow-up video on this subject
Prepared myself for digital crisis. only that, I have saved plenty of games on my Flashes and HDDs. hope it counts .. I plan on buying me OG's for Oldies consoles as well.
Yeah I had some interesting conundrums. Like I wanted Legend of synthwave but that isn't available on cassette tape. So I paid for MP3s and made my own cassette tapes. Or what if I made cassette tapes from MP3s that I used to have CDs from? I didn't really get too worried about that but I'm just limiting my media selection to a smaller shelf. I actually put way too much stuff on it. It would be harder to do if I took like half of it off. But so far I'm 10 days into the challenge and I'm loving it. I actually really look forward to watching and enjoying the stuff that's on the Shelf.
@@8bitjoystick All those ancient relics were gone . Had to start life over. but nonetheless MP4s and DAPs had some sources online. I had also some very old tapes and vinyls sound very dear to me which I was able to find. Well I am in the starting line to collect again.. Physicals are RAD. . Its a whole other story right?.
You might find you have a stronger appreciation for those things that you have. Along with less stress and nervousness that social media stirs up in all of us after prolong use. Great collection of physical media that you have I enjoyed seeing the books the games and everything else.
Thank you. As you know I have been working on this video for quite a while. I am trying to do something different with this both in form and function. Instead of just making videos about retro video games, I would like to expand and try to make some videos on media commentary that I think will compliment my videos on retro video games. I think I'm going to make some more videos and think about what I want to say in the follow-up video to this one before I actually make it. I am trying to put more thought into my videos and I'm trying to be more fun. I hope it comes across as thoughtful and fun instead of just stupid but even stupid can be entertaining.
Sounds like a wonderful idea! I've been watching TH-cam way too much lately so I might do something similar to this

I’ve also read Cat + Gamer and can verify that you’re in for a treat! :D
Yeah, I likely over packed for "My Trip"

Pretty sure I can pull it off. I have the entire Wheel of Time books to keep me occupied for months on end lol.
I think I put too much stuff on my shelf. I am not halfway through the month but I am loving it so far.
Nice video, I saw Cary The Snail's video a few weeks ago, however I found this task impossible lol

And sometimes for downloaded stuff. It's the only way that it's available. Like I can't get a copy of Captain Power on DVD. So thank God for my mp4s
