This was a very “satisfying” and “simple” video, for us to enjoy while you work through your vehicle issues, it was fun to see all the past meals. Jason
I just went solo camping for the first time this weekend! My favorite meal I made was khichdi, I just put some rice, red lentils, and Indian spices in a mason jar before I left and added water and a chopped tomato to cook, it came out delicious ☺️ I love your quesadilla ideas, I’ll have to do one next time!
That's a good idea! I really like pre-prepping at home for easier meals once I'm out there, but I have to admit I rarely actually get around to it and often end up buying groceries on my way out of town, haha. Your mason jar meal sounds tasty!
Beautiful, healthy, flavorful and fairly simple dishes making camping a satisfying adventure. Prep ahead us best way to go when possible. Great job on compilation. Thank you for sharing.
Chef Don, this video was awesome and one I will watch over and over to get the cooking sequences down. I love to experiment when I'm out overland camping. Nothing worse than pouring hot water into a bag of dehydrated food stuff, waiting 10 to 15 minutes, then eat the contents. Ok for backpacking but not when you have an outdoor kitchen available to make whatever you fancy. Your meals looked five star. One of my favorites you cooked was the sausage and lentil meal. I love making an Italian soup with sausage and lentils. OMG! Now I'm hungry. Super video, Don, and thanks for sharing.
I have watched camp cooking videos for a few hours today and let me tell you this ones my favorite. So many great Ideas!!! I will without question be making some of these next time I take out my Square drop camper its got a full kitchen I built myself. Subscribed
Something very primal about camping deep in the mountains, preparing a steak over an open fire source on a hot rock. Seared onions. Only seasonings to be used. Nothing pre processed.
This couldn't have been more timely, I literally was making my camping meals list and here is your video! Awesome! Thank you for your great content and great ideas! Your Subaru interior set up inspired me to start making my Santa Fe set up better. I am so sorry to hear about your Subaru. My heart broke for you as I watched that video.
Thank you...the past few weeks have been more difficult than I anticipated but I'm trying to see it as one door closes and another one opens. :-) Good luck with your Santa Fe build, and thanks for watching!
These dishes all look very yummy! I am especially enamored with the Mediterranean pork loin and polenta. I remember watching that video when you cooked it up. I gotta give it a try. You are a very talented cook/chef! It's good to see a new video from you even if you can't get outdoors yet. Thanks, Donald!
Made me hungry. It's good you take the time to eat good camping. It's more enjoyable in a nice setting than in the actual kitchen and sometimes more challenging. Goes to show people you can eat healthy while camping in the woods. Great video and hopefully you can get the subie worked out so you can get back out.
Just found your channel today and subscribed. I’m always down for more cooking inspiration as I’ve been cooking since i was 8..now in my early 60’s. Can’t wait to watch the rest of your videos !!!!!! Blessings, Deb
Just ate and these are still making me hungry! Definitely going to steal a few of these ideas. I like simple quick easy meals that still taste really good!
I always feel like that camping food taste sooooo much better then what you cook at home. You can literally make ramen noodles while you’re out camping and it seems to taste more delicious then just at home. I’m definitely gonna use this video as a “cookbook guide”, thanks Donald!
Those all looked terrific! I love to cook, but always looking for simple meals when out camping. It was great that you went from easiest to more complicated.
Thanks for sharing (consolidating) these! Coming from the moto world (read: 0 refrigeration) I'm a Tuna (packet) guy on the trail. Also, big fan of Knorr "meals."
Hitting some snow/truck camping this weekend and am searching for meals to plan. Very timely video! You definitely got my wheels spinning for a couple of things to cook.
SO GLAD YOU POSTED THIS AS I HAVE SEEN GREAT CAMPS BUT SADLY MANY HAVE NO COOKING SKILLS AND LIVE ON PACKAGED RAMEN AND CANNED BEANS. THIS SAD VIDEO CALLED "ALONE IN THE WILD" THIS SCOT HAD A DREAM OF SURVIVING IN OUR YUKON FOR 3 MONTHS BUT BARELY BROUGHT 4 WEEKS OF FOOD. HE NEARLY DIED AND LOST 35 LBS. I WAS FURIOUS AND SAID SO BECAUSE IT DIDN'T TAKE A PHd TO KNOW WHAT FOODS TO TAKE AND EVEN IF HE OVERLOADED HIS PACK HE'D NEED EVERY CALORIE. WHEN WE JUST GO TO A BEACH IN ONTARIO FOR ONE DAY I TAKE THE BEST FOOD AS ODDLY EVERY CAMPER DIVES INTO THEIR FOOD 5 SECONDS AFTER ARRIVING AT ANY SITE OF BEACH!!
Thank you for just getting to the point. I'm going through video after video of ppl just b-s'ing going on hikes or fishing and cooking is like 2% of the cooking video. Take this like.
Excellent cooking compilation!! BTW, my wife wanted me to convey that she loves the way you cook, and that she’s borrowing your chicken tagine for one of our meals this week. So, thanks for that!!! I’m looking forward to it.
Something you might want to try is to make like small slashes on the sausage. I've tried that and it was good, the smoke and heat just cooked the inside slowly
Was saying in my head paprika when it popped up as text on screen 😂 They all look delish. I always keep mixing in gourmet cooking when I’m out but I love cooking and somehow made room for a big fridge and a yeti cooler in my subie. Hope the vehicle thing is working out somehow. I know it sucks and hoping you get back out on your own four wheels soon
I live full time in a 178 camper in South Carolina and I love to cook with my outdoor camping supplies, although I haven’t used my seven quart cast iron pot in a while because it’s a little hard to clean only having the use of one arm and hand due to a massive stroke but it’s not so bad most of the time and I do enjoy the full time camping life as well most of the time I have really enjoyed watching your films the past few days and I would very much like to be able to do what y’all do I’d kinda like to do a lake camping the USA trip if I could
OK, this might get long but the prize is in the eating. You need orecchiette pasta (small shells will do), a can of baby clams, two small tins of tuna in olive oil, a jar of 4 cheese Alfredo sauce, minced garlic cloves, a couple of green onions, some red or orange pepper. some red pepper flakes, S&P, oregano. Drain the tuna oil into a fry pan, get water for the pasta going. Toss in all the seasonings and veg into the pan to sautee. Add the drained clams. (keep the broth in case you need to thin the end product.) Add the tuna and break up. Pasta should be on the boil now. After the clams/tuna and veg/seasoning have sauteed and melded together pour in the Alfredo and mix well. Low simmer. drain the pasta, toss with the clam/tuna sauce and sprinkle with some parsley if so inclined. Orecchiette looks like ears, so welcome to the Ears of Charlie Twofish. Wonderful camping meal as none of it requires a cooler or fridge on the way to camp. So its a good day 3 or 4 meal. Plus it tastes great. Want more or real clams...go for it. Want some prawn action in there, go for it. Want a different white sauce...sure.
I'm building out the back of my 2016 Forester with a pull out kitchen and using your build for some inspiration. I picked up the Flame King 5 pound propane tank. Do you have a video where you talk about how you use it? Is it semi-perm mounted in the car somewhere or do you pull it out and hook it up every time you use the stove? I haven't been this excited about starting a project/hobby in a long time!! It's helping my depression a bit! Now just to find some good dispersed campsites and forest roads in PA! EDIT: Nevermind. I found your video posted on 2/29/2020 and it answered my question :)
Cool. Yeah, I've just been carrying the propane bottle in the car, but that was always an interim solution. My intention (before the Forester was wrecked) had always been to build rear swing outs for my spare tire and extra fuel, and I was going to add a mount for a 5-pound propane bottle so it would be permanently outside and also right there next to my stove. Would still need to be hooked up each time though. Good luck with the build, and remember it doesn't need to be perfectly dialed in before you get out and do some exploring & camping. Sometimes being out there using the gear brings about ideas for what makes the most sense for you. Have fun!
Man in my early 20's I lived off of Stagg Laredo Chilli. If I was feeling fancy I'd put a dollop of sour cream in it. This was great im always looking for new camp food ideas.
I COULD smell it! I'll buy all the groceries if you'll do all the cooking. Deal? I'm using these ideas at home, my camp cooking is pretty much pour boiling water into a Mountain House pouch.
Love these! We are preparing to truck camp this spring and this helps so much! Love the idea of potstickers I wouldn’t have thought of that. I definitely want to prepare as much ahead of time as I can. Have you thought about canned chili and cheese quesadillas? I bet that would be good. Hope to see you back on the road soon... crossing my fingers you get another Subaru😊
OOhhhh...I never would have though of that, but what a fabulous idea! I think I'll definitely have to give that a try, I love that it combines the two camp meals I make the most!
I would like to know where you bought the container for your quinoa? GREAT job. I hope you will be able to get back on the road soon. I do like these stay at home videos from you though. It's a form of thinking outside the box that might not of happened otherwise or at a later date down the road. Thank you, and say hi to Lucy
That's good to hear, because there'll certainly be a few more stay-at-home episodes coming up! :-) The little box is made by Sistema, don't recall exactly where it came from but they have a whole range of clamp-lid containers. Looks like you can find some on Amazon.
Sounds good. Really liked your subaru. Are you going to stay with subaru? By the way your meals are looking good. Very good ideas I will try. Take care
Always hated the name "potstickers". I prefer the japanese name Gyoza. (Gee-yo-za). A cooking edit was a great idea when you're between wheels. Thanks Don.
Great. I just got done with dinner and now you show me more food. Hungry again. I'll just concentrate on the Stagg chili and that will kill my appetite. NOT my favorite chili! Very nice video as we all wait for the next Subaru. Take your time, get the one you really want. We'll wait.
These meals are genius! Super simple and look delicious. Guess I have some new ideas for summer of 2021 camp meals. Thank you for sharing these! Is the Forester getting fixed or are you in search of a new overland vehicle?

I aim for satisfying results in everything I do. :-)
I literally had just finished dinner when I started watching this video. Made me hungry all over again.
Oh man watching the second half of this when I was hungry and waiting on dinner was torture. Looks fantastic, love the content.
I just went solo camping for the first time this weekend! For the record, you're right, slightly crispy potstickers are the GOOD way. The pork chops, masala, and tagine all looked incredible.
I watched your last video. I had no idea that your daughter was with you when you were in the accident. My prayers for both of you. God bless
Beautiful, healthy, flavorful and fairly simple dishes making camping a satisfying adventure. Prep ahead us best way to go when possible. Great job on compilation. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for not boring us with slow motion food porn! This demo was real, informative and gave me great ideas for my next camping trip.
I love how sophisticated your meals became as the years passed - and crazy good knife skills too. Thanks for the inspiration.
Three word..hungry at home after watching your video. Great ideas to incorporate camping and at home.
Thanks for another awesome video! I’m glad you’re able to make them while the forester is out of commission. I wish you the best!
I got several inspirations from your recipes Donald. Simple, but with complex flavors!
Great video man. Awesome that your sharing some of the meals for overlanding!👍👌👍
Something very primal about camping deep in the mountains, preparing a steak over an open fire source on a hot rock. Seared onions. Only seasonings to be used. Nothing pre processed.
Wow...what a great cook...camping with you seems to be a blast! 😊
I'm not sure my kids entirely agree, but I certainly have a blast! :-)
@@softroadingthewest those memories surely are! 😊
Hello. I'm enjoying a couple camp in Japan. It's a good place. I watched the video as if I went there. The food looks delicious.
Went out scouting spring campsites today in the ‘18 manual transmission Forester, and it was nice to come home to this bevy of dinner ideas. Thanks.
My mouth was watering the whole time. So much yum. Thanks for this video.
Appreciate you putting this together. Always a pleasure.

For camping?! No. You saved me, a house wife, from the ‘what’s for dinner?’ hell! Thank you! I’m subscribing 👍
Haha...yeah, a lot of this is more or less ported from my own home dinners. :-) Thanks for watching!
Food... It's what for dinner! Thanks for sharing some recipes! George.
Some great ideas there Donald.

Right? Definitely something about camp cooking that enhances the dining experience.
Very Nice~ the cooking sounds, the steam, the campfire😏⛅
Those are some fancy camping meals!
great now i'm hungry! excellent camp foods.
That, my friend, was a perfect video. Thanks for the ideas!
Great episode! Shows us that, as great as canned chili is, the options are almost unlimited👍🏕🍻
Indeed! I'm looking forward to exploring more camp cuisine in 2021!
Those all looked terrific! I love to cook, but always looking for simple meals when out camping. It was great that you went from easiest to more complicated.

What a great video! Great, easy ideas and the video was put together in a great way!
Awesome video! Thanks for all the great ideas!
The heck with waiting for when I go camping, I'm trying these dishes at home.

Great recipe ideas and definitely need to check out trader joe's for some camping meals for me and the kids camping
Teriyaki chicken noodles! Yes! Try some kimchi with it🙂🤠
Awesome Donald but when I go out on my first trip imma be cooking like if I was at home in the woods Thai food and Filipino food
