EN | Tourism is a growing industry connected to various sectors and has economic, social and environmental impacts. One of the main concerns of tourism has been sustainability in its ways of acting. Despite the efforts made in the implementation of good practices in tourism activity, there is an element often unscathed in the sustainability of tourism - the tourist. How does the tourist influence the quality of the tourist experience? How can the tourist contribute to the sustainability of tourism?
Raquel Hermínio is an anthropologist, student of Tourism and Environment at ESTM-IPL, and author of the book - Ser Ferrel. She is particularly interested in the anthropology of tourism and sustainability and seeks solutions for a quality tourist experience for tourists and residents of tourist destinations. She believes that the success of the future of tourism lies in combining tourist behavior with good practices implemented by the tourist industry, in order to enhance the quality of the tourist experience to tourists and increase benefits to host communities.
PT | O turismo é uma indústria em crescimento conectada a vários sectores e exerce impactos a nível económico, social e ambiental. Uma das principais preocupações do turismo tem sido a sustentabilidade nas suas formas de atuação. Apesar dos esforços feitos na implementação de boas práticas na atividade turística, existe um elemento muitas vezes incólume na sustentabilidade do turismo - o turista. Como o turista influência a qualidade da experiência turística? De que forma o turista pode contribuir para a sustentabilidade do turismo?
Raquel Hermínio é antropóloga, estudante de Turismo e Ambiente na ESTM-IPL, e autora do livro - Ser Ferrel. Tem particular interesse pela antropologia do turismo e sustentabilidade, e procura soluções para uma experiência turística de qualidade para turistas e residentes de destinos turísticos. Acredita que o sucesso do futuro do turismo está em aliar os comportamentos do turista às boas práticas implementadas pela indústria turística, de modo a potenciar a qualidade da experiência turística a turistas e aumentar benefícios às comunidades hospedeiras.
