For anyone curious, here was the old episode link: • History of WWI Primer ...
You can see the amount of production experience attained since the original episode. In other words, this ain't Othais' first Bodeo.
*drum noises*
damn you punster
i see what you did there
is there a star trek episode that it reminds you of Mike?
I came here looking to make this comment. You smooth bastard. Well done.
I love that "Bo-don't" was the go-to rating of trenchworthiness, when *clearly* it should be a Bodé-no
Perhaps No-deo would work equally well and roll off the tongue just a bit better. Equally, that mutant hybrid can be portmanteaued into Chamelodeo.
Once you already have it, and have to use it, it becomes the Bodé-oh no
and to think it could've been the Cham-Wow
Oh no that's not a thing lol
What do you guys think of the Abadie loading gate system?
12:30 Couple of reasons why you might want the gate to be steel instead of iron if it is actually steel:
1.) When working on small metal parts, a "stiffer" metal may be easier to machine because it won't flex so much when tools are interacting with it, too much flexing potentially causing warping or work-hardening or other effects that might compromise the integrity of the piece. The money spent making the steel is made up for by the reduced costs machining the steel because it doesn't have to be handled with the same care as iron might.
2.) Often overlooked when machining metal on an industrial scale, but you often have wastage from another part's fabrication that may just be the right size for a different part. A chunk of steel left over from something else could have been found to be convenient for the gate, and so they just used that instead of specifically creating iron stock. Not unlike cutting a smaller cookie of a different shape out of the dough left behind after you cut out a big cookie.
Not saying these were the reasons, but they are possibilities that would fit with the limitations of the tooling and workers of the time.
Considering how much Othias fell in love with and continually referenced the Bodeo, I shouldn't be surprised he made this do-over.
I hope they get enough money one day the redo the shooting section on the T gewehr with better approximation of armour piercing
I mean, the reloading feature alone is INGENIOUS, and the two springs make it ludicrously simple.
He makes me want to hunt for one of those Chamelot Bodeo Hybrids.
These revolvers really make the ejector rod on the colt peacemaker seem like the most ingenious revolver design pre cylinder extractor
It's exactly the same thing, except instead of having a dumb rod on the side of the barrel all the time it's elegantly tucked in the middle of the cylinder
@@Momo_Kawashima idk really, having a dumb rod on the side of the barrel keeps the ejection ready to rock and roll instead of having to pull out an ejector rod from under the barrel. at least it sounds quicker to reach.
@@taitonaito having it hidden tho is less of a burden, with the thing tumoring on one side you can get it tangled in anything tangleable. Spending half an extra second to pivot it out won't make your reloading faster, if anything the fact that you can rotate the cylinder with each pull of the trigger is gonna make it faster than reloading an SAA
It never ceases to amaze me how different the internals of each of these old revolvers are.
Yeah the evolutionary tree of the designs varies greatly.
Same here, it is like Othias commented in another video. Because revolvers have been around so long and the actions have the same end result the differences get overlooked.
I love the Update episodes almost as much as the new content. Its always nice to see dedication to accurate scholarship even if it means going back and doing it again. You guys are exemplar in this!
I picked up a 1913 version of this about a month ago. Not knowing anything about it, I fell back on my knowledge of contemporary revolvers on condition. The pawn shop had it priced at 500, I got it out the door for 350. As I researched it, I realized how much I liked it. This video has cemented that. Thank you for great research. Now I need to get the other versions.
The more I watch Beardy and Drach talk about Italy, the more amazed I am at how much they did with not all that much AND with their own resources.
On this episode and the Vetterli-Vitali for like the 30th time.
Wow, the nostalgia. Pretty sure the Bodeo was the first episode I watched when it was new.
I think my first episode was The Ross. I found it very informative and hilarious so i stuck around. 3 years later i know more about WW1 guns than any man ever should
I always find Italian engineering to be so interesting, in some points so ingenious and in others they were out of there minds.
We have only two moods:
-we need to make it both good looking and good working
And
-alright take the money and let's run away
Pistols were so militarily important to Italy that they survived 80 years and are still functional using Iron in the construction. I think they were more a feel good measure like bayonets in the modern era. It's cool to see that basic of a design that is reliable. Nice video.
The Italian revolver with the foldy trigger bit love the history behind it
Must be time for bed if a C&Rsenal episode is dropping... Wait a minute!
Wait an hour and a half
My first exposure to one of these was while watching The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, and I kinda fell in love with its... *unique* aesthetics.
Wait. There’s a bodeo in GBU?
@@evandaire1449 Yes, it's the gun Tuco passes over in the gun shop scene. Fun fact, it's 15 years to early for that gun to be there.
I wasn't expecting the Bodeo to get an updated episode; It seemed like such a simple story. I'm glad to be wrong, this was really interesting!
I was hoping for the C96. But really any C&Rsenal will do.
I'm starting to get a real appreciation for these european revolvers
Have you considered switching Minute of Mae to the TH-cam Shorts format? With the way the algorithm is currently set up, it would definitely boost your exposure
Yes, do that, that would be an amazing idea
Having watched today's clips episode, 11/19, on this gun that at 6:42 the bottom right of the schematic drawing shows exactly that spring retention application.
Insert The Office "Thank you" GIF here.
I had a negligent discharge many years ago, my daughter is 39 yrs old now
"No one likes a negligent discharge!" :-)
Are you guys planning a video on the schwarloze machine gun?
That's why I use the American Standard Vormax.
I was in Italy in 1986 shortly after Gadaffi's goons shot up Rome Airport. I saw a grizzled old guy on guard in a village square with a large revolver and a belt full of short, fat cartridges. It surely had to be one of these.
The animated side-by-side comparison of the different revolver actions was super helpful!!! 👍
Yes pls make that a short
New C&Rsenal...another beautiful way to start my week
Love to see a remake of some of the older episodes, especially anything from my father's country of origin. This really highlights how far the show has come, you guys have improved a huge amount! Even the early episodes are still great, but these are on a whole new level! I especially appreciate the longer run time with more history and technical detail.
Excellent research Othias. Very nice that you could show so many pieces with the differences.
Another great episode! Thanks guys, hope you're safe.
Every time there is a C&Rsenal episode I grow ever more :)
I'm even wearing a C&Rsenal shirt!
I'm rewatching this 2 years later and I still think this was one of your most entertaining and educational episodes.
The Bo-don't is a pun carved in history now.
as always great episode, and more in depth than the first bodeo.
I loveee your videos keep up the amazing work!! It is greatly appreciated by everyone
it's amazing that in just few months you got 40k new subs!
thank you for all that you do
Camera work has improved immensely. Thanks Mae👍
Thank you fir the wonderful videos
This is my engagement post until I can watch the whole thing later
Love the detail in your videos
Great episode as always.
Good one to revisit because Othias was genuinely just happy to do this specific gat over again.
You must imaging that we used the Bodeo Revolvers and variants in target Shooting at the distance of 25-50 meter since the '50s :)
That's some brilliant engineering getting parts to do multiple things well.
Excellent content as always!
Nice and early! I've been hoping for a Bodeo episode.
As a Patron, I'd rather you take the time to try and lay this paperwork issue to rest and get it off your shoulders and minds. Praying it resolves safely for the channel!
You guys are amazing. Thankyou.
I liked the detail in this episode!
euphonious - a sound that is pleasing or beautiful to the ears.
Just the term for that lovely little ~clink~ the shells make. =)
thank you for your content
Love the redo episodes
Revolver actions are an interesting study. One thing that I have noticed is that it seems some ideas seem to pop up in different countries at or around the same time. One thing we do have to remember is arms were shown at the world's fair, where ideas were shown and shared. I think some people did what you are suggesting and either traveled around to different countries or spent time at the world's fair to get ideas to patten in a country where their wasn't a patten for that idea, then either updated it or just copied it and sold it as their idea. Also, rebounding hammers have been in long guns for awhile, wanting in in a hand gun to prevent primer drag is something they would want for sure.
I'm a simple man. I see a new C&Rsenal video I click. I can sleep later.
Another old revolver episode! Keep em coming!
Posting a way to fix a Bodeo revolver here, because I found a really weird problem they can run into that I managed to fix on mine. And there is nowhere else to post this.
Bodeo revolvers have a rubber spacer in the hammer that pushes against the hammer nose. It can dry up and degrade over time. Just cut a piece off the sole of an old boot in about the same shape and put it in the hammer, it'll fix almost all jamming and trigger pull issues.
good work yet again!
Great video! Greetings from Italy!
I never heard of or saw one of these until today, and I am not referring to this video. I saw this revolver today at a gun show. Tonight, I was watching youtube videos without any thought at all to researching this revolver and having completely forgotten seeing it earlier. I just happened to glance at the list of "suggested" videos on the right side of the screen and saw a shape I thought I recognized. Eerie!! I probably should have bought the gun!
Thanks guys . Love it all .
Told a friend I was going to order some merch now he want's a t.. his wife wants a t
Another friend wants a hat. Wait what do I get?
Hope your both very well we do appreciate the great history and your dedication.
Great job
Another ingenious design! I bet its a trip telling yourself it's ok to pull the trigger when it is pointed at your feet for loading!
Wonderfull! More Italian beauty.
Gosh, these remakes make me want for a new episode on the revolver mle. 1892 .
Soldier: Why on earth would you design a trigger like that?
Italy: *shrugs*
Tbf there are plenty of folding trigger designs for revolvers from all over, including some of the early Colts.
I am fairly convinced the folding trigger/lack of a trigger guard was there to allow use of the pistol with gloved hands.
god as someone who loves learning firearms mechanisms and wants to make his own stuff I'm in awe at the simplistic beauty of the bodeo
Man, watching this 2 years later is a tad rough. Othias has learned so much!
They've been teasing us for 3 years, the wait for the 1911 is killing me. Ian did the g11 and the pancor jackhammer already.
"'You'll see this in the Reprocussion series' - oh yeah, where's my Walker at?!" - Quote from everyone on TH-cam in the whole world.
Hooray, engagement! Plus a great sidearm in BF1.
Oh hey, a remake of one of my favorite C&R eps
something something comment... Love the show and keep up the great work.
Coming from the newer Bodeo side plate spring vise video, I just noticed the drawing for it in the patent shown at the bottom of 7:28. Pretty cool and I was a little surprised that it was missed until my hearing tuned back in as Othais was talking about the sort of brain pattern recognition shenanigans thag happens with revolver actions lol.
I just picked one of these up 2 days ago lol. A first year of production “R-RAB D’ARMI, BRESCIA 1889” (only made them from 1889 - 91) with 90% original blue remaining. Too funny to see this video, I had never heard of them before and just stumbled across it as part of a Militaria deal. Such a coincidence lol.
This is why top 10 revolvers & pistols of WW1 lists need to happen, cause weird wacky choices like the Bodeo might make it into those
The pug of guns is back! Yay!
Good video
the remake i didnt know i wanted until now
Othais, I love these guns too. Much like the Sten gun, I love the idea of such crude but simple guns having a major effect on the war effort. And unlike a Sten, I was able to buy an original fairly cheap! Now onto th Rast and Gasser
I think this is one of the funniest episodes of the primer series and 2k likes are way under what this video deserves, you ungrateful fellow viewers.
This gun in Italy is also well known for its appearance in the comic book Dylan Dog as the protagonist's gun... In London. Not even Dylan Dog can explain how it got there (he found it in a cave), but considering it still works well even when he has to have the ammo custom-made, it was a good choice.
Sorta reminds me of the Belgian pin-fire revolver I bought, for some reason, last month. The folding trigger and rather ornate ejector rod in particular.
I have a number of Belgian pinfires, and none have as heavy a trigger, or hammer, or are as awkward to operate as my two Bodeos. My pinfire grips are also a much better design than those on a Bodeo.
With it's solid trigger & trigger-guard, I'd even bet Mae would prefer shooting my 11mm Pinfire, over a Bodeo!
A super simple amalgamation of concepts already in use with other firearms, boiled down to the simplest system with as few parts as possible and made of inexpensive materials? Late 1800s Italian Glock revolver confirmed!
Blast from the past episode😊
Othais: Gun the Baptist.
Mae: Marry of Magazine.
Thoughts?
It's ok
The grip angle you hate seems to be a direct result of the action spring that you love.
Apparently Im First! Crazy love for what you guys do!
I do love this pistol so much I dream of owning one someday
Surprised to see so many Bodeos covered in a single episode. Really was primed for this one after episodes released prior to this date. I love these revolvers, but gosh do I have some conflicting feelings. Oh well, much to muse or read on with.
My favourite leg of lamb that I can't eat. Great to see this piece come back.
Does the loading gate have cammng surfaces that interact with other steel components? If so then steal construction would be necessary in order to prevent premature wear and to allow the indexing feature to continue to work properly.
I enjoy the history
Goddamnit Othias I was about to go to bed
Thank you. 🇺🇸👍🇬🇧
lovely pistol design
and OMG every variant produced even by the Spanish..... this is why I am a Patron
That grip kinda reminds me of one of the Chinese mystery pistols a certain mustachioed francophile took a look at a few years back.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Need a video of Mae dual wielding a pair of Bodeos. :)
Cool
Some revolver love, I see
I sorta wish that the patreon plug you put in the beginning was professionally animated...
It's just such a lower quality graphic than the rest of those you use in the series. I love watching these, and honestly the bell icon irks me. Other than that this is top notch.
(PS)
I actually preferred the 2d animations of yore. Although they gave a less detailed idea of how the guns work, they really visually fit the series better.
The Bodeo revolver - the gun that finally led to Mae getting bleeped.
