The Monkees rock. The End. No Argument. They’re all playing, they’re all singing. This is a magnificent song. Shame Mike isn’t there but this shows what a great writer he is.
Good to see Mickey / Davy on Guitars and Peter on Keyboards. They all play on the original 1967 track of this song. Peter's harpsichord part and playing on the original song is brilliant. A Michael Nesmith compostion. The lyrics are great and bring back a lot of good memories about the "girls we al knew somewhere. " Thanks Mike and Thanks! Monkees. You guys will always rule compared to a lot of the musical junk that is currently out there.
There isn't a Monkees tune I don't love, but this will always be the one I wish would go on forever. How I wish Davy had made it to the Good Times of 2016.
I have LOOKED and LOOKED for the version that I heard on a ROCKOLA in a fast food restaurant back in the mid 60's. Can't find it. There was something very amazing done by the BASS that i don't hear!
Oh, Peter, your intense and happy countenance still shows the remnants of the sweet face of your youth and the kind face your age has graced you with. You are loved at every age!
Still love the song after all these years, just wish I could hear Mike doing his background vocals which were spectacular on the original recording.... Thanks for posting
I can't help but notice that the drummer is playing a Ludwig 'Fab Four' kit. Love it; I play the same one, have for about a decade. This song is without a doubt one of the Monkees' masterpieces and it's great to see it played so well by them in the latter days. Good show, lads!
I think they were playing guitar. You can see they're barring the same chords and they come in together after the electric guitarist does intros to the verses to add to the choral effect. It was a great clip. I've also taken lots of videos last year.
Ryane, you're wrong. Micky and Davy BOTH are playing. Micky played guitar before the Monkees, and Peter taught Davy to play guitar as well as drums. In fact, Davy was a better drummer than Micky. Peter stated Davy had better time.
@anakina1 summer of 2002 tour. the enitre show is available to download on many sights for free. very good live show one of their best its just a shame Nesmith couldnt have been there
On this day in 1967 {May 22nd} the Monkees released their third studio album, 'Headquarters', it was the first album on which they played their own instruments on the songs they had written themselves... One month later on June 18th, 1967 the album would peak at #1 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart, the album that knocked 'Headquarters' out of the top spot was 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' by the Beatles... And across the pond on the United Kingdom's Weekly Albums chart "Headquarters' peaked at #2 {for 6 non-consecutive weeks}, and what album was at #1 for those six weeks, you guessed it, 'Sgt. Pepper'... Mike Nesmith's "The Girl I Knew Somewhere" was released as a single, it peaked at #39 {for 1 week} on the Top 100 chart; it was not on the original 1967 album but when Rhino Records re-released 'Headquarters' in 1995, the song was added as a bonus track...
@rollmop7 When was this show actually made. i went to a concert March 2002 in Birmingham, UK, with Mick and Davy. Peter had dropped out of the tour before they came to the UK.
I get the vibe that Mickey and Davy weren't really playing guitar in this... Regardless, I still think people sold The Monkees short. The truth is Davy and Mickey were great vocalists, Peter was an incredible musician, and Mike was a very gifted songwriter. Those are the elements you need for a great band, and they had them. They belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, hands down.
ryane294 In several interviews, Micky explains that one of the founders of the r and r h.o.f. Insisted that The Monkees would never be inducted. Too sad...
@@TiaMargarita The Monkees are a unique and fab story in the history of Rock and Roll. To not include them in a hall of fame which purports to be the definitive museum is a travesty, and they do themselves, The Monkees, and all of us a disservice.
rvisual I don't mean that as a slam. I mean that's how I'm used to seeing him. As far as a singer, he's awesome. Ringo's the same thing- needs to be back behind the kit.
Peter work said that if the Monkees were formed according to their strengths instead of just what the writers wanted, Mickey should have been the front man, Davy should have been the drummer (he was better at it than Mickey) he (peter) should have been lead guitar and Mike on bass

Mickey has always been one of the most powerhouse vocalists out there. And he hasn't lost it.
His voice has aged magnificently like an old wine.
Still love the song after all these years, just wish I could hear Mike doing his background vocals which were spectacular on the original recording....

It's a beautiful song and they still do it well, but I really do miss Mike's harmonies on this one.

They still got it. If only they would tour next year----I even heard a rumor that Mike was considering it.
Should be in RRHOF!

I miss Mike, I love being the first comment. When was this show?
They got to get Thorkelson's keys up in the mix!
R I P Davy Jones
Is that Davy Jones playing guitar! Can someone who knows something about guitar playing tell us if he is playing the proper chords.
I think he does.
@Durktle Don't you believe it! You have to think by this point, he can play. He played on their 1996 remake of "Circle Sky" for example.
Where is the DVD available?
@patinovideo LOL they're just the brass section guys being silly :-)
@Durktle why not?
Anyone know what make/model guitar Davy is playing. Looks like Carvin?
@Durktle lmao
and peter's mic isn't on! You must be joking! (kidding :o)
click my music olhos nos olhos thanks
Peter looks like he his in pain.
Michael Boyd noooo
I bet Davy's not plugged in...
Durktle Of course he’s playing. Peter taught him guitar and drums.
Peter Tork doesn't half look like John Lydon
That would be an interesting duo.
Man, Micky out front is just WRONG. :) Get back on the drums dangit!

I live for Micky at the front on Words. Such passion.
This song is eons better than that dopey bubble gum crap written by that Brill Building crap from Carole King/Gerry Goffin, Neil Diamond etcetera...
