One of my fondest Pokémon memories is using the Pokéwalker. Even though I must've taken this thing with me every day, there were some Pokémon that I never got while using it. This is because some of the rarest encounters take a lot of time and energy.
The Pokéwalker is a pedometer that tracks your steps and allows you to catch Pokémon if you do enough walking. There are some Pokémon that require marathon level walking. Let's see what they are!

“Explanation points”
ESL moment
This explains a lot
As a kid these steps were probably pretty daunting, but after working in the service industry 7500 steps sounds like a slow morning lol
True, I was using my Pokéwalker recently and was getting around that number on a typical work day
Yeah, 7500 was barely even a dent in my work shifts. Heck I had a phone app that would usually say I got 10,000+ On sunday, and you KNOW that's not close to accurate for step counting.
Doctors say to take at least 10k steps a day. The biggest issue was remembering to wear it and also not losing it.
As someone who still uses their pokewalker weekly, and has caught the surf/fly pikachus, munchlax and torchic, here's some advice:
-Just farm watts over a couple of days, hit the step quota and just keep grinding until you find the !!!. The !! will most likely not be group A, so don't waste your time.
-Use the DNS trick to unlock all the special courses. Yes you can still do this as long as you have an android phone.
-When encountering the mon, attack first. They can, amd most of the time WILL flee if you dodge, so risk the crits with damage instead of auto-failure
-If you're lazy or can't walk all those steps, shaking the walker a certain way can trick it into thinking you're walking.
-Thought the surf/fly pikachu's have to lose their surf/fly HM moves when transfered up, you can have them remember the moves in gen 9! Maybe gen 8 too idk, but now that rare flying tera chu they mystery gifted us years ago isn't the only flying chu you can have on the switch!
And thats all i've got for now! I love this silly little pedometer dude 😌✨️
How long did it take you to get to 100k watts?
@@murkydover What do you mean? Why 100k specifically?
@@StarzyKK 100k watts to unlock the final course which has spiritomb, munchlax and feebas (Quiet Cave)
@murkydover Oh!! Lol yeahhh I just got this pokewalker last year I'm nowhere close to unlocking that course bc I keep spending my watts on trying to get flying Pikachus... 😅
(Though I've gotten 3 flying chu's so far, so it was worth it! ⚡️✌🏾)
I work for Amazon, and one of my coworkers unlocked the routes for my pokewalker. I was just lucky. Also, farming those watts on certain routes was a pain. Talk about two weeks at a time to a month, mainly I was trying to get mons with specific natures that correspond with their base stats (stupid idea for a pokewalker only challenge, I know).
Just a bit of a correction - once you've taken the required number of steps, they are good for the whole day, even if you return your Pokemon and then go for another "stroll." So you don't have to take another 7500-10000 steps to check for Spiritomb again in the same day (you DO, however, have to start collecting watts from 0).
I think he mentioned the watts being reset (not the steps needed) but yes
I think he mentioned the watts being reset (not the steps needed) but yes
@@zak8340 Yeah, I was just clarifying that that part is correct.
Funny how I wanted to look up information about the pokewalker to complete my soul silver Pokédex and here it is
Glad I could be of help! I hope someday to do a video analyzing the full pokewalker! I still have mine all the way back from my first heartgold
@@TheGameCubiclelike yo I didn’t know the quite cave existed
I want to see a Pokewalker only dex filled.
A real masochist could try to catch every single Pokémon on the Pokewalker. I am not that person.
I did it recently. Once you get the two Pikachu and the Torchic, everything else isn't that hard.
@@ClampEEGEE Huh. I never expected anyone to actually do that. Props??
I wish Nintendo could make a Pokémon pedometer used for hatching eggs, just like how if you ride on your bike faster the faster the Pokémon egg hatches.
So I got super lucky with my pokéwalker. I got Heart Gold as birthday present in 2019. The games were already pretty expensive at the time, especially compete with Pokéwalker, but a friend of my sister's had a basically good as new copy that she did not need, so my sister bought it off of her for 30 bucks and gave it to me. So I could in theory go hunt for those spiritomb and munchlax if I really wanted. The event course of course are not an option
You can get the event courses with action replay and I think there are some other exploits. The event courses are awesome and it’s too bad they weren’t more widely available
Gen 4 (and 5) events are available. Not from nintendo, of course, but a quick online search will yield a fan server you can connect to and receive lots of events.
Using a modded 3DS, DS flash cart, etc, you can load the .nds file used to distribute the event courses, and send them to a second DS with your Heart Gold. Your DS's clock has to be set to around the date it was originally distributed.
The event distribution file you can find online, i think ProjectPokemon has a copy, otherwise check Myrient
Do you think….explanation means exclamation? This ❗️ is an exclamation point
At first I thought I was just mishearing them, but they kept saying it.
I had to check comments to see if anyone else mentioned it.
You can actually get the special courses through fan servers through mystery gift
I caught a bunch of surfing pikachus, haven't transferred them up just because I'd have to delete the moves lol
You can actually still access the event, Pooka Walker routes by using a DNS glitch, and those Pokémon from the glitch are still viable the transfer aside from a couple of the mythical events, but some of them work too
Now I don’t need to buy that Time Machine!
I used my Poke Walker a lot when I was at college. Event Pokémon aside, I managed to obtain every other Pokémon possible from every course (even the Fly and Surf Pikachu).
I think I might have cheesed the step requirements at times though, by connecting the Poke Walker to its strap then swinging it around like a pendulum.
10000 steps a day is the normal recommended amount of exercise you should get a day….. that’s not really that big a deal
Yeah, seriously!
My first thought is "Where is this guy from where he thinks walking that much is so extreme?"
...But he is probably just being hyperbolic cus TH-camrs aren't allowed to talk like a real person if they want entertaining content.
if you work an office job i could see it being difficult just for the time.
Go do 10,000 steps then
@@ZacEwart I do, on a daily basis
@@StretchReality am jealous bro , I can barely hit 8,000
I actually never got the pokewalker, because I was a baby when that thing came out, and man they have to bring stuff like this back it was amazing
I hope they bring it back too!
You could just use the ip address thing to get the pokewalker courses. I know it works for the jirachi course.
Yeah I didn’t really walk with my pokewalker, I’d usually just shake it up and down to get steps or give it to my brother to wear when he was at work. But the spiritomb I got on the pokewalker is the only one I’ve ever caught.
I would, by far, prefer to do ANY pokéwalker mon than do natural Munchlax hunt.
You can DNS for the events for the pokéwalker, then it's just about having 1 or 2 days to just dedicate to doing them.
Munchlax takes real world hours, and walking faster, further and more intently simply cannot change the hard cap of 3-4 times per day you can attempt it, and for best results you need to use about 4 trees minimum, and then you need to be dilligent with checking them, and you have to be sure not to re-slather using the pop-up to do it again, then you're still having to wait 6-8 hours just find out the pokémon is the wrong species - and saving to soft reset only randomises nature, gender and IVs. Not species or shininess
Munchlax is truly ridiculous. My method was to get both a male and female snorlax from firered and breed them with the full incense.
Unfortunately, you can’t do that for platinum nuzlockes where snorlax would be a great encounter
Id also recommend playing on a JP copy so u can play the exclusive event courses to Japan.
@@Mabayu to be fair, if you DNS for the events, English/German/etc. Copies will also receive the JP events
@@Br0oham Ive never recieved the JP exclusive courses on an English save file, and I havent been able to edit them in myself manually either. Its why I play JP HG/SS
@@Mabayu I have the japanese course events on my English SS, not sure if they're going to work, but I have them
The poke walker was elite. I'm surprised they never did a color version like a tomagatchi.
I know it was kind of outclassed by Pokemon go, but honestly- I'd personally just get one for the sake of having one.
I like the pokewalker so much more than pokemon go because the pokewalker is its own little accessory where as pokemon go is on my phone.
"Outclassed". Nah. Pokemon go isn't nearly as good at getting people to walk. It's also such a money grab and this was a bonus (though it was the first set of games to be $40)
I used to put this in my pocket while mowing the lawn. Easiest way to farm the event zone.
Hahaha great video! Your narration and tone of voice really helped visualise how completely, and utterly painful some of these Pokémon would have been to obtain. 10/10 😂
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed how I narrated it!
I still got my old pokewalker. I'll have to give it a new battery and catch as many of these as I can.
The local second hand online store in my country currently have 2 listings for HG or SS with the Pokéwalker. They are both at a non-negotiable $285. That is double the price I paid for a NES skin GSP with Leafgreen, a charger, and a pouch to keep it in. And there's no guarentee that either work, either, so I'm not biting this time.
Nintendo really needs to step up their game preservation
if they don't work, you in most continents would be liable a refund
Just get off something like sendico. Can get stuff pretty affordable, but will be in Japanese.
Im glad that I used that thing when it come out. I completed the game with a flying Raichu in my party lmao
I should add if you do gift instead of return from stroll youll move the pokemon you cought over and can check the moves then know if you got the surfing or flying pikachu
Oh man I forgot you could do that. There are so many different things in these games I’m bound to miss something
We used to tape our walkers down to a record player and it would register as steps
7:03 These courses might be archived on the dns exploit or using pksm
I still have my pokewalker still looking like new I never knew exactly how to use it, but it was fun to use
Im actually using a pokewalker it was just to get my surfing pikachu but now i may try for some of these. I got the flying pikachu too. It actually only took a week if that
I worked at the Gamestop distribution center when this game came out as an order picker. Let's say getting my watts was never an issue walking up and down those aisles to pull games to ship lol
Exclamation not explanation
And then when you transfer the Pikachus, the Poke Transfer forces you to delete the HMs, so no one will ever believe you if you have them in the new games. Good design Game Freak.
Wow I didn’t even realize that
@@TheGameCubicle yep for some reason they thought it was a good idea to make people delete HMs on Pokemon if they wanted them to be transferred through any of the official methods of moving them. Then there's the step further of anti exclusivity by Pokemon home where it literally changes the moves your Pokemon has. Let's take the Darkrai from Pokemon movie: rise of Darkrai. Its moveset is spacial rend, dark void, and roar of time and nightmare or so. Yet if you had gotten this Darkrai for example and put it all the way into home well goodbye exclusive moveset and hello randomly selected moves it can normally have. Oh and also the whole thing where even if you somehow managed to keep the moves on the Pokemon (by any means) and put it into any switch Pokemon game it can go to it won't let you use the moves at all since they made it so signature moves can only by the Pokemon its normally found on. Or can't be used at all if the move was disabled in the game files.
I managed to catch the 1% torchic, but still searching for that surf pikachu...
Congrats on your rare find!
I still have SoulSilver and the PokeWalker...though the Pokewalker needs a new battery...
So you can actually still get the event courses without using the DNS exploit if you have a modded 3ds. A program called PKSM includes the majority of past events for all of gen 4 and 5, in all languages available, and can be used on any language your game's set to. For example, you can get japanese event pokemon directly into an english game and it works perfectly fine. I haven't tested this on the japanese/korean only course since admittedly, this video taught me that was a thing.
Also, if you want all the manaphy eggs, it does that too. Yes, you still have to trade the eggs to free them from their shiny lock, but it's better than playing 8 hours of a secondhand copy of pokemon ranger in hopes it still has the egg. You don't have to start a new game on the game that's hatching them every time anymore. You just get a new egg to trade over.
Explanation points
Heart Gold was the first Game i preordert. Still got my original Pokewalker and Game today also got nearly every Route even the event routes. And belevie me its not that hard to get Torchic or the special Pikachu`s maybe took me 2 days of taking the Pokewalker with me and thats it. And if you want to get the event routes today just look it up at youtube how to get the event pokemon at Heartgold and Soulsilver throu the same method you can get all the event routes for the Pokewalker
Looked it up on my old Soul Silver game...I caught two surfing pikachu back in the day but sadly coulndt get a flying one. Wasnt too much of a hassle though. You didn't really need to *walk* for your steps.
I spent about a year going for flying and surfing Pikachu. Then got Torchic really fast, was very nice.
saying 10k steps as if no one owned a digivice and just sat around shaking it for encounters lol
I have that Spiritomb. One of my personal favs in my collection
i was grinding a poke walker for 3 months and then i accidentally put the thing in the washing machine 😂 haven’t touched it since
Those steps sound like a lot but when I was working at the LEGO store 6500+ was my average. Crazy to think about lmao
I wish i had gotten one of these games and the pokewalker when i was a kid. Now i have to pay a months rent in order to get these new in decent condition.
I have both surf and fly pikachu, and am using FlyChu for my HeartGold playthrough
I love the pokewalker and the YT algorithm clearly knows that.
Great video!
Thanks so much! Since I started the channel I wanted to do a video on this subject and I'm glad to see it's reception!
Feel lucky I still got mine but hardly used it. After finding out what you can catch well damn missed out. Still got my boxed soul silver too thats awesome.
I don't remember having Flying Pikachu but I'm sure that i had Surfing Pikachu because I wanted to imported it to Gen 5 but I couldn't because Surf is a HM and the Poké transport didn't allow HMs moves.
So I was there, watching it in the box, missing the fun in gen 5.
I actually did all this back in the day and had a whole box full surfing/flying Pikachu to use for trades.
Then again, I didn't drive, so walking around all day was what I'd have been doing anyway.
Nice vid man, gimme more pokemon content pls🙃
Glad you enjoyed it! I have lots of other Pokémon content on the channel and more to come!
I have the pikachus and the munchlax. I only caught the munchlax because it also comes with self destruct. I didn’t need a munchlax because you can just breed a snorlax. And I never tried getting spiritomb cause I got one in a trade and just hatched more of them. I never knew about the torchic. That’s pretty cool. The bad thing is that the flying and surfing pikachus could only be transferred if you made them forget the HMs. So they are stuck in my heart gold with spiky eared pichu.
oh god i bought every pokemon but good thing is im currently in prep for a bodybuild show so doing all these steps means skipping cardio in the gym easy enough did 6 hours of tabbing in the army thats more than 10k steps haha
I had so many flying pikachus. The surfing one was much harder for me.
I remember hunting the Flying Pikachu specifically with Poke Walker, with two Walkers actually since I got both versions, and I did finally get one! I also got multiple Surfing Pikachus while hunting the flying one, but that wasn’t as interesting as I had Surfing Pikachu from Battle Revolution already, but Flying Pikachu was a completely new thing.
I don’t even know if I new about the step limit that needed to be achieved before the flying Pikachu could appear, but if I didn’t, I probably would have saved a lot of time not checking every pikachu that I captured, which reseted those steps..
But I do remember that the Flying Pikachu was the only one appearing at level 15, so when I finally saw that level on my game even before seeing the move set, I went nuts lmao. I still have it in the game, unfortunately cannot transfer them as transfering deleted the HM moves….
Guess I was lucky with my flying pikachu, still have it in my file since I was scared to transfer it and delete fly
Can you do me a favor, and talk about the PokéAthlon Dome?
Specifically the ApriJuice Blender?
There's no information online for how it works, that I can tell....
I will add it to my list of potential videos! I toyed around a bunch with the ApriJuice blender in this game. Didn't know there was no info on it. I'll try to figure out how it truly works!
Could be a while before I make it but make sure to stay subscribed and keep a look out!
Iirc flying pikachu actually had balloons on it but Incould be misremembering
I have been walking with this thing for years now and have yet to unlock quiet cave for some reason :(
My goal was indeed the Spiritomb but gosh there are a lot of cool pokemon!
Munchlax can learn explosion for example :O
The self-destruct Munchlax of Winners path! That pokewalker course deserves a video of its own!
@@TheGameCubicle For sure!
Acting like walking 10,000 is an extreme challenge lol
Wish Pokémon brought back the pokewalker in the form of an app to send your Pokémon to and from
It would lose its magic. I’d much prefer it to be its own accessory
For some reason there's a draw in my house with three pokewalkers and I don't know where the third one came from
What pokeball can you use with Pokemon caught from the poke walker?
niantic really needs to add a pokewalker to pokemon go.
I still have my poke walker with a dead battery but don't have the games anymore
I use 3ds with luma and a Pokemon black cartridge so I can transfer it
It is an amazing device!
I still don't understand how people haven't created a knockoff pokewalker experience for wearable devices like Fitbit i would put money down for something like that.
I still have mine , with a castform
Pokémon Go’s grandfather
Later on, the pokewalker hardware would be reused for the Wii Fit U pedometer
...and ugly fish lmfao. Idk why that made me laugh
This would be kinda easy for me only because I walk 15 miles a day minimum 🤣
I wish I didn't throw it away :v
"10 000 steps" "a treck around the country"
American
I took 16k steps today
Feebas is NOT harder to normally obtain than Munchlax or Spiritomb
I should have clarified. Muchlax is definitely the hardest by honey tree but breeding snorlax is an option.
Spiritomb is pretty close to Feebas though.
@@TheGameCubicle makes sense
What makes it rarer is having A pokemon trainer actually go outside and walk anymore
exclamation
10000 steps isn't a lot. You should be getting that every day anyway. If you aren't, you need a lifestyle change.
oml please tone it down with the Woosh sound effects…. there’s so many within the first minute jesus
Thank you for your feedback. I’ll take a look at my sound effects in future videos.
Please stop making these videos, I want to get this and the prices for these games are already so high...
Glad I bought my hg years ago
I’m shiny hunting with the pokewalker it’s gonna take awhile but it will be worth it
Best of luck to you! Make sure you're using the unlock code, otherwise all of the Pokemon will be shiny locked. OliverMKP has a great video explaining it :)
