    Great information Emma! I just finished an Alpaca on dark gray pastelmat . The warm tones you showed would have worked so much better.

    Hi Emma thankyou so much for this video so lovely to see your work up close it's amazing. It's really helped me with the direction of the fur. I'm painting my Black and white Breton Spaniel at the moment complete black face, a lot more practising to do yet , thanks again, so inspiring.

    Inspired by your work, I made a painting of my sister-in-law’s Spaniel. Sadly, Chester, died last year and I did the work for her as a memory of the dog. She has framed and hung the painting at her home, so impressed was she and a filip for me. I worked on dark grey Pastelmat, but I used PanPastels and Faber-Castell PITT Pastel Pencils.
    Thanks for the inspiration.

      That's wonderful to hear Guy! With practise anyone can get better at this so enjoy the process. Sounds like you're off to a great start :-)

    I appreciate your in-depth explanations of your process and techniques using Pastelmat. I currently use Uart sanded paper that I'm really comfortable with, but I hope to try Pastelmat on one of my next projects. Thanks for your instructions and inspiration!

      Thanks for the comment Rita! Pastelmat is not that far away from UART, at least the finer grits. You'll enjoy it I hope.

    I know you might have been asked this many times over, and maybe someone else might be able to answer for you, but do you use a fixative on your pastel mat?

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I never use fixative. It dulls the colours and it just isn't necessary on Pastelmat especially as it holds the layers really well. Framed behind glass or stored flat between sheets of paper/glassine is enough.

    What colour did you use on the spaniel with the brown ears for its mouth at the side.. And colours you used for its ears

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Anya, there are many colours used in this piece, I don't have the list to hand. If you'd like to see this whole piece with colour codes popping up as I work it's one of the many tutorials available on my Patreon. The link below has all the parts to this project. It's really in depth with a narrated part on just the curly ears also. It's pretty cheap to join even just for a month if this is the only one you're interested in.

    Beautiful work, what are your favorite pastels?

    • @EmmaColbertArt
      @EmmaColbertArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unison, but I also like Terry Ludwigs and a few other brands. My favourites are usually the most expensive due to the quality and lightfastness of them. But I am pretty addicted to Unisons :-)

      Hi Ray, this one has not been made into more tutorials yet. I would like to revisit the spaniel at the top. But there is another video in the full catalogue about Spaniel curls using the brown spaniel. I will come back to this one very soon!
