    There's a little subtext to the panic in some of the voices... Austin Dillon is in the 3 car at Daytona, and that wreck happens. Richard Childress is his grandfather.

    The single scariest fact about this crash is that Austin Dillon went from 195MPH to 0 in the blink of an eye. He suffered a bruised tailbone and forearm. If you ask me, he got off lucky.
    Five fans, if I’m not mistaken, were injured by flying debris. It could have been a lot worse.

    Side drafting is cool because you don’t speed up, the other guy slows down which also can get a guy loose. It’s cool but risky

    • @RyTrapp0
      @RyTrapp0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It'll pull the air off of the rear spoiler, removing a lot of downforce from the car very quickly, so you'll see cars shoot up the track because of this. The back end will get loose and step out, and they'll chase it up the track overcorrecting, recorrecting, recorrecting, hopefully getting it back under control before they slide up into the wall. Stock car racing is a very detailed oriented, intricate sport. So much technique that can go unnoticed by the eye.

    The craziest thing about that last wreck to me isn't that he just survived hitting the fence and getting mangled like that. The craziest part of that to me is he survived the G forces! He went from probably about 190mph to 0 within less than a hundred feet. I don't know if anyone's done the math to figure that out but that had to have been quite the strain on the body, and probably why he didn't respond when they were trying to talk to him, he just got the wind knocked out of him and had to catch his breath.

    I'd like to give you pointers on what you said but other people commented what I was gonna say lmfao
    In all seriousness, however, I remember watching this race. The 2015 Coke Zero 400 was the 2nd & final race @ Daytona that season, as Daytona every year since 1959 has had two dates on the Cup Series schedule: The 500 & the Summer race, with this one being the latter of the two. I was watching the this, the '15 running of the Summer race, w/my dad at freakin' 9pm over here in Southern California, as a storm, as you saw, washed the scheduled start away hours before the late start time. For the most part this race was reminiscent of the 2000s, as two & three-wide pack racing littered the night. Lead changes weren't often but had the potential to be, despite the organized chaos further behind. The finish live as it happened then was as stunning as it is in replays in highlights now, as seeing the 3 car involved in another last-lap incident @ Daytona shook up the entire NASCAR fanbase, including me.
    Before Newman's accident in the 500 last year I considered this as the worst NASCAR crash I'd seen live, that's how stunning it was. Hopefully we don't see anymore catchfence accidents in the future.

    Side drafting is when a driver uses the nose of his car to dump air onto the spoiler of another car. This creates extra drag and slows the car down that is being side drafted.
