This really put a smile on my face. The world's gone mad these days. Going back in time through these adventure stories helps me tune things out and relax.
One of the best series I've listened to in a while. Something about the old-world ethics and manners that have now largely gone. You know it's good when the sadness comes because there is no next book.
Another great job! I can’t tell you how very much I enjoy every one of your stories. Each one is like a personal gift from India! Thank you very much for your work in creating these wonderful performances. 🇺🇸🐅🇮🇳
Umm I found out about 50-60 people a year are still killed by man eaters today in India. Shocking to me 😮. I find your voice and speaking style the best out of all the audiobooks I have ever heard. Thank you
Really very good 👍 you have narrated so good. You should tell the story of Sundarban tigers. Still in 2021 people do get their life lost in the hands of tigers in sundarbans
SON I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR SOME TIME. ITS BEEN A LONG GAP SINCE THE LAST UPLOADING. ANYWAY THANKS FOR THIS. GOD BLESS YOU WITH LONG HEALTHY AND WEALTHY LIFE. PLEASE DO ALL KENNETH ANDERSON BOOKS. MY SON , WIFE AND DAUGHTER IN LAW. ARE YOUR FANS NOW. THANKS AGAIN.
Thanks for including maps in the start. Makes it more believable to see the places the author talks about. Always a pleasure to listen to you narrate. If I may make a suggestion, consider reading some of Sir Samuel Baker’s works. Hope the best is yet to come.
What a great story! I wish the young hunters knew better. Tiger is a phenomenal adversary, way better equipped than a human in a jungle setting, easily noticing all the human movement around the kill, and knowing exactly where things are, fully capable of hatching an undetected ambush. A man with a rifle too has little chance. It's only through sheer risk taking ability that these beast are killed.
What a magnificent courages s man was Kenneth Anderson and his companions who were loyal to his efforts to rid those poor terrified villages of a man eater Once can hardly imagine what the victims and the hunters and hunted felt the terror of what may be awaits them at any moment
I have been waiting for your next story for quite sometime....... Am listening to this 4th time as I sleep. It is a soothing balm after a hard day's work. Great work brother.... Waiting for the next one.
Very nice narration sir.. enjoyed each and every one of your episodes.. remember reading these tales as a kid growing up in 80s..India should have these as part of their text books to pay homage to Jim Corbett and Kenneth Anderson, who risked all to rid the people of the villages from these man eaters
Excellent point! Indian school boards don't mention Corbett or Anderson at all in their curriculum. Atleast not to my knowledge when I was growing up in India in the late 90s and 00s. While some of these stories may be unsuitable for school kids, there are plenty of other works by them that are worthy of inclusion.
@@selvalore Absolutely.. something like My India by Corbett transports you back to the India of that time and age, which today's kids will never be able to experience. Some of his stories can definitely be included as chapters
Great job ! I hope you keep them coming. The maneater of THAK or TREE TOPS. And all the many tiger hunters books over the years. Thanks for your hard work !
Thank you for this. Awesome narration. Was inspired by your book readings to do one of my own from one of my own books! Not half as good as this though. This is totally brilliant.
Hello Pearl! I appreciate your comment and I wish you the very best in your own reading. Just keep at it and like most things in life, you will get better with time.
I'm liking the inclusion of the maps as i have been looking at modern India and trying to see where these events took place but not having much success.
Glad to hear this. A listener had actually made a suggestion in one of the previous videos. For sure, some visual context always helps. Thanks for listening!
Would love to have a reading list accessible for this genre. Absolutely adore these stories. Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy the books and browse titles? Thank you so much for uploading these, they are always the highlight of my day
Appreciate the interest and support. Besides the well known and easily available works of Corbett and Anderson online, I suggest you go to shikariconnection.com and check out the titles they have listed. There's a whole section on tiger hunting and links to purchase the title (if available). Additionally, many of those titles are available for free as ebooks on archive.org
So Mr Anderson, Mr & Mrs McTavish were disgusted and annoyed that the locals removed the body of thier loved one, not allowing them a chance to sit over it? Maybe should've sat over Mr Todd's remains, am sure Mr Ins wouldn't have objected. Unlike Jim Corbett, there was a definite streak of racism in Kenneth Anderson, which could probably be ignored given the era, if he was half as good as Corbett. Sometimes he was completely unprofessional and sounded as if making things up.
Yes, others have noticed this as well. It's upto you to make what you will of the content in Mr. Anderson's writings. Regardless, thank you for the comment!
I absolutely love this story.. but it always seems to me that Jim Corbett was more sensitive to the feelings of common Indian villagers compared to other white hunters like Anderson. To them a Britisher's life was more expensive compared to an Indian.
Isn't it amazing that he was annoyed that he couldn't leave the Indians bodies out there to sit over but there was absolutely no mention of leaving Todds body out there to sit over.
It is interesting how the remains of the english boy were removed immediately, even though he was only half eaten, but Mr Anderson was not happy on removal of remains indian victim at Hollalkere.
Thank you for the comment Mr. Singh. I get the point you are making. This was a different time and all we can do now is enjoy an excellent story from the author without worrying about a few moral shortcomings in the narrative.
@@selvalore first of all i would like to thank you for the reply and for all your efforts you are putting by bringing us these wonderful stories of good old days. Being from Kumaun i have heard many stories about the britishers and their conduct, and most of the times I feel like those officers were much more committed and responsible.
Wonder if Anderson would have let the corpse of his child or wife remain undisturbed as bait. I know I couldn't, nor be angry with any family refusing their loved one be left exposed as tiger bait.
Ronald your ethos is in the right place. Anderson was young when he wrote this and his boisterous enthusiasm and a fair bit of sensationalism is evident in his writing.

Whilst I would really have loved to have met Jim Corbett who seems to me to have been in tune with the nature of India, this writer has the air of a typical "Colonial". Superior, entitled and driving around shooting anything he finds, I find it hard to enjoy listening to his tales!
That's right. His earlier books recount incidents that happened while the British were around and there's a hint of elitism and entitlement in them. To he fair, the colonial officers acted worse, he was actually not involved in the colonial enterprise directly. Not everyone could be like Jim Corbett.
I understand why you may feel this way. The British of the time thought differently from each other as individuals just as we do today. There are still the untouchable segre8by cast in India by some of their own country men and women. After reading many of Corbett and Anderson's books and some of their old communications with friends I think they did look at things a bit different between them. On the other hand it always appears the people in the country appreciated their presence and the modern rifles.

Anderson, Corbett, Bell and all the legends lived exciting lives. Thank goodness they wrote about it. And many thanks to you for sharing these sir!

Wow, thanks for saying that! Excellent username.
That's because they don't allow the maneaters to be killed the tigers life is worth more than human life today
Only difference today is the Maneaters are not allowed to be shot the Maneaters life is worth more than 100 human life's today by the government there
I have listened to a dozen or so of these and thought surely I had heard the best, however, this tale was utterly gripping and tops them all!

It was better that Kenneth Anderson mentioned dates of expeditions
My doubt here is why the body of Todd was not used as bait by the hunters? Is it because he was an English saib
❤

A new one is coming soon, Chester!
Which caliber they are using please mention
I believe Kenneth used a .405
Yea a model 1895 Winchester lever action in 405 calbier
Why didnt Kenneth and his companions used that body as a bait,,, oh,, i forgot,, he was british,,
The duplicity.....
I would have wanted a Browning BAR with me though and a frag grenade
I wonder if a flash-bang would stun a tiger or leopard…
Lol a grenade for hunting a dangerous animal will leave much collateral damage in its wake, not to mention its impreciseness would be a liability
Why did the friend’s wife shoot a harmless bear?
Yes that didnt make sense to me too. That was the way back then I guess. She shot the bear, because she could and it was fun.
After so long......

To be taken by a tiger while sitting in a pitch dark forest is a terrifying thought, but probably a painless swift death, dead before he knew it.
