The fact the 6S was still updated for so many years and is still somewhat usable to this day is very impressive specially considering those windows phone apps stopped working after no more than 2 years and like you said, the OS is dead.
Windows phones were DOA and everyone in the tech space knew that.. it's just that they marketed them a lot so they got some less knowledgeable people buying them
@@servissop151 you are just plain wrong. Windows phones were not DOA. Windows Phone 7 was released in 2010, so they had a chance, as 2010 was the same year Samsung introduced the Samsung galaxy, and just two years after the first Android phone. They had a chance, adding that they had one of the worlds best phone makers, Nokia on board made it a missed opportunity in my mind.
Usable yes
Reliability nah
I use Iphone 6s now
Fun fact. You can use the infrared blaster for remote controlling LED color strips. You just need the app.
Currently using an HTC One Max and ZaZaRemote to do this, but with all my IR remotes

The iPhone 6S is actually still getting updates and is very much usable still. iOS 12 got a security update as late is January 2023 which means 10 years support for the 5S. iOS 15 will most likely get another couple of years of security updates. While the Samsung is stuck at ancient security. My daughter is using my old iPhone SE 1st gen which has the same processor as the 6S and it handles anything fine still.
That iPhone video is light years ahead of the other two holy crap
Google just announced 7 years of feature updates
@@Vex22778 that’s awesome if they stick to that, but Google likes to promise and make a lot of things and then just cancel them anyway.
@@MrAkella33genuinely surprised myself

Man, I can't 😂💀
Jesus will fulfill you more than anything in this world, I speak from experience (from when i did Romans 10:9-13), he loves you and wants to be in a meaningful (not romantic) relationship with you. :)
“that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Romans 10:9-13 KJV
“and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
Mark 1:15 KJV
If you want proof that Jesus and the Bible are true look a documentary called “Ron Wyatt discoveries 2022” on TH-cam and a TH-cam channel called Expedition Bible. They both examine archeological sites and discoveries that prove the Bible, and even reference secular sources. (Just don’t convert to 7th day Adventism after watching the documentary) And lastly if you don’t know the gospel and want to be saved search up “abc’s of Salvation Teenmissions” on Google and it should be the first or second result. When you click on it read the whole thing, and do what it says and have faith in Jesus while you are doing it, do not doubt, and if it is hard for you to do what it says, ask Jesus to help you, have faith that he will, and *he will.*
God Bless :)

You can see at 10:53 that the front cameras are covered with fingerprint, those phones can take much better pictures when you clean the lenses
The S6 on stock still is quite usable. You get the latest version of Chrome, so every website works, 90% of the Playstore Apps still work and it supports VP9 decoding so 4K on TH-cam works. The biggest limiting factor are the 3GB of RAM. The S6 Edge Plus and Note 5 run a bit smoother.
Lastly year I had a note 5 running limeage OS, only limiting factor was the old battery, im sure a new replacement would make it work better.
Tbh as a both Note 5 and S6 owner, I might say one thing. They’re really slow even after a restart (maybe downgrade on Android 6 could make it run better). Battery life was kinda worse than on iPhone 6s ngl.
at least Android 7 still has app support.
ios 10 doesnt
Samsung Galaxy didn't get good (compared to its competition) until the Galaxy S7/S8.
It was released earlier in the year when android Marshmallow wasn't even in the beta stage
Whats really interesting: the Lumia 950 XL supported USB C 3.1 Gen1 with 5 GBPS and supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode. This was 2015. The Galaxy S23 Ultra has the same (!) support.
I really liked Windows 10 Mobile. Now I’m in the Apple Ecosystem.
And the iphone 15 still uses USB 2.0. you should be more suprised with that
@@mehshutup3041 just the regular ones.
@@mehshutup3041most modern smartphones that have USB C locked at USB 2.0 speeds are usually low end or midrange phones that cost at around 100 to 400 USD or Euro. But most Android phone for around 400 and up(some midrange and every high end and flagship phone) literally support USB 3.1 or 3.2 speeds
Windows phone might be officially dead but lots of apps still (barely) work. Funnily enough when the support ended in 2020 the app situation was actually a bit worse back then than now thanks to community support
Lumia 950 XL actually got updates until 2020 (security patches) and as for major releases, it got three major updates - Anniversary update, Creators Update and Fall Creators Update. :)
And finally MS was to incompetend to push it into the market. I loved the UI of WindowsPhone. But hey, maybe it was to mutch ahead.....
One slight correction: Apple supports their phones by giving them newer OS updates while Google supports their OS by letting apps run on even older outdated OS for example Android 8.0 can still run most Apps on the play store and take advantage of Play Protect on the Play store as well while an iPhone would need the latest OS to run the newer software. So the OS update comparison is kinda unfair because the S6 could be very well used till 2020 when developers abandoned it while there are still big apps like TH-cam, Instagram, Facebook and more that still officially support it.
Theoretically any phone on any OS can be used today if it was properly supported
It's not Google that's doing this, it's the developers. And only because there are a lot of people using older versions of Android. Because their phones stopped being updated
@@frokfrdk That's not entirely true since Google supports the APIs of older versions of Android for longer than Apple does for iOS. Since most apps support the earliest API they can (so their apps work on the biggest amount of phones possible), this means for iPhones you need at least a 2 year old version of iOS (15 in this case), while android needs at least Android 9 (that's 5 years old).
Maybe Apple will start supporting older outdated versions of iOS for longer, but as of now iPhones have about 2 years on an outdated iOS version until apps start dropping support
@@Ignacio.Romero I am saying that theoretically any phone could be used today if they were simply updated
all will depends on developers (in iOS it will rely on developer's machine too). but security capabilities is not only from Play Protect, it's also from the Linux kernel that Android is using. so in technically, that stock S6E is the worst
These smartphones look like yesterdays smart phones wow im old
Fun fact about the 950: if you use it for too long, Windows Phone just *dies*. I’ve had mine since 2016ish iirc, and I’ve very extensively used it, and stuff like the Camera just stopped working completely. And not as a hardware problem, but as a software problem - the camera app just refuses to connect to the camera. Continuum doesn’t want to work but at one time it did, it’s just random. The Iris scanner doesn’t work. People say I should reset the phone to fix these things, but I don’t want to do im stuck with these things not working.
You should change your phone
I still have my iphone 6s and, besides a couple minor screen problems, it runs perfectly. I recently remembered I even had it and updated it to ios 15.7.9 and it's really cool that the phone still works so good and can send messages without a sim card (if I'm connected to wifi)!
Hot take: the video on the iPhone 6S holds up very well to the 7 pro 😂
The pixel 7 pro?
imo the iphone 6s video was even better than the pixel 7 pro. thats crazy! wish android would have that apple magic in videography.
@@Ferzin400 the iphone 6s is a piece of shit are you joking mate overheats like crazy battery life is terrible laggy asf
@@Ferzin400An almost 10 year old phone doesn't have even close to the same quality; stop being blinded by your loyalty to Apple, and start realizing that the Pixel's are the best cameras on the market, and the iPhone 6s doesn't hold a candle to them.
@@Cloud9And9 im not loyal to apple. To be honest im rather an apple hater than a loyal user. I never even owned a single apple device. But i gotta give them props where they are deserved. Their video quality is amazing.
I still sometimes use my Lumia 950 and 640 LTE. Also at 26:56 when you mention that 3rd party apps don't work, Mytube still works just fine on my Lumias. They are also suprisingly fast for being almost 8 years old.
The 950XL undoubtably took the best photos and videos outside in good lighting, better than the S6 and iPhone 6S.
It's great that samsung has promised to support their phones to up to 5 years. imo that should be the bare minimum to where someone could reasonably expect to use their device.
but good on iOS for STILL supporting their devices after 10 years with security updates.
My S7 got 5 years too. Only it got 2 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates, not 4 years of Android updates like they're now promising.
Galaxy s6 has a 8 core CPU compared to a 4 core of an s5.
I still use my s3 with a android 7 custom rom on it as my secondary phone, surprisingly still does the job, and even handles youtube just fine.
And S7 had a 4 core.
Snapdragon 810 was horribly inefficient, 8 core Exynos was the next best option.
@@King_Kong_Song Really?
GSMarena says both s6 and s7 have an octa-core CPU (two 4 core cpus)
The european S7 would have the 8 core. That part gets confusing, samsung using Exynos SoC in Europe.@@filenotfound__3871
The two cores of the 6s are more powerful compared to the 8 Exynos cores of the S6
@@King_Kong_Songthe s7 only had 4 core Snapdragon 820 on US and China, the rest of the world got the Exynos 8890 on the S7 which had 8 cores
Sealed batteries are planned obsolescence. So glad you pointed out that it can all be done but they choose not to.
I wish the LG V10 is also featured there. It's a 2015 smartphone too but it has 2 Screens.
Fun fact : I actually wrote this comment with my LG V20 but not the V10, however the LG V20 is a 2016 phone.
I wish I had a use case for dual screen fold, they where so cool back then
But my use case needs a huge screen instead so it's folding phones for me.
Coming in late, I had an S7 Edge, I got it second hand from my brother who upgraded to an S9 and once I got used to how to hold the thing I felt rich, like, beautiful high res screen, almost side to side screen, it fell down so many times I lost count, once dropped it from like 160 cm in the air when I was in the dorm drunk shuffling in the wardrobe and it shurgged it off. The only thing that "killed" it was the charging board going kek - or something board and charging related thing - and it couldn't hold charge for more than ~18 hours even with a fresh battery, so, we sold it and its someone's work phone now living on.
I also had a WinPhone, a Nokia Lumia 635, it was.. well it was a phone, it did phone things, but that's it really, bounced onto an LG K8 real quick from it.
well in Samsung's defense S6 released in April 2015 and android 6 released at September 2015. Android 5 was simply the latest android at the time.
there were some even worse cases of this. Note 4 released at October 2014 with 4.4 and android 5 released at November 2014. but yeah just 2 major updates was still kinda a pain but that was the norm with pretty much all android devices at those times.
and yeah custom roms can be a pain sometimes but it's really hard to brick a Samsung, download mode+odin can recover the device from pretty much anything.
edit: you can also use mi remote for the ir blaster, it doesn't have ads and works with pretty much all phones that have an ir blaster.
I've bought a Vodafone Smart Platinum 7 from 2016 with a 5.5" 2K OLED Snapdragon 652 one of the best looking smartphone of that year
Thing about android is you can root it & flash a custom rom on it to make I up to date with the latest android smartphones in terms of software.
when you're doing the camera test, you should clean off the lens on both sides of the phone to remove any glare and oils from touching it. makes the pictures turn out "better"
over the horizon is a mind blowing song ngl
I hate that I know this
Galaxy S6 is still usable today, runs smooth, and almost all playstore apps can be downloaded, only problem with the S6 is the unexpandable storage and also bad battery life (on heavier usage)
Ive just found your channel. Instantly i was like, its Dankpods lil bro. I say it with respect. Subscribed instantly 😁
I had a normal S6. I didn't like using it at all, used it from 2019-2020. It was my first phone I owned. The battery got very hot and lasted for 3 hours. It could only be wireless charged sadly. The reason I used it from 2019-2020 was because I used it without a case and broke the OLED fully.
The iphone 6s wasn't the last iphone to have a headphone jack. The last iphone to have a headphone jack was the 1st generation iphone SE.
i am still amazed by the Lumia's camera, still strong even now after 9 years.
SW support is the reason I went iOS and never going back. Glad Android OEMs are getting better but it still has to be approved by Google, OEM and the carrier and are delayed. Even had a Nexus 6 and the OS didn’t reach my device until over a month later
Then get a Google Pixel. The Pixel 8 gets 7 years of OS upgrades. And all Pixels get the updates on the same day.

I really like the look of the old galaxy phones. I wish Samsung would make an old phone with nowdays technology.
i can update to latest app on my old android 7 phone; honestly its usable(jus slow; budget phone tho)
Windows 8 phone design & the animations still look unique & timeless. I miss my Lumia

The screen on 6s is actually phenomenal

I actually had the iPhone 6s, it was a great experience.
Is no one mentioning that this isnt a "TASTE TEST" 😂😂
The iPhone 6s is just incredible. Had one of these recently for a backup phone and it runs so well considering it turns 10 years old next year. The A9 Chip was incredibly strong back then and is still holding up pretty well. And it is even up to date in terms of security patches with ios 15.8
You have such a cute dog!!😊
The S6 was the best looking phone ever for me back then
Still looks great
I was watching you on my tv for a little while and I didn't realize you had only 10k subscribers, i thought you had like 500k lol

Your cat and dog are very cute :)
androids really advanced faster than iphones in just a couple of years. its amazing to see how much we've come with smartphone technologies.
I’m still daily driving my near launch 6S. Good thing I got 64GB cuz even I didn’t expect to use it this long lol. It’s definitely time to upgrade, as even after replacing the battery a year ago, it lasts like 2 hours at best on minimal brightness while running simple apps. The phone also tends to overheat when connected to CarPlay... or sometimes from just being in the heat lol. I’m very stubborn when it comes to upgrading it idk, i upgrade my other devices, maybe I’m just too sentimental. Anyways great phone, but when I updated to iOS 15 I noticed significantly more battery drain :(. Maybe I’ll get the 15 pro, or a 13 mini, or I’ll kick the can down the road again
get the 13, it's the best budget iphone u can get atm
yeah u totally right i had iphone 6s for five years and got a iphone 13 its so good and u have 128gb for lowest price so i think its enough for me atleast, 32gb was so small for me on 6s@@9kz1

Even back in the day, I never understood the appeal of a curved glass edge of the screen on a phone. It just makes it a zillion times more prone to destroying the screen on a drop. The fact that both of your edge devices have cracked screen edges just proves it. I remember the curved glass being a trend I specifically went out of my way to avoid in getting a phone.
I recently bought an iphone 6 just to add to my collection and it surprised me how fast it still is. It’s on ios 12 but still syncs up with alot of my stuff from my current phone. If I could put cellular on it I would totally bring it with me in situations where I don’t want to have my bulky 14 PM on me.

there were 2 Versions of Grace UX
Grace UX 6, was released for the Note 💣on android 6
Grace UX 7 was released for the S6 & S7, J Series, Xcover Series, & A Series on Android 7, they put some Samsung Experience 8 Elements but just ported from the Note 💣for devices that wasn't the S8 & Note 8
Its funny when you replaced Note 7 with Note 💣

I wrote this with my LG V20, The LG V20 was a good phone but people makes fun out of it's competitor which is the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. For some reason the LG V20 is more popular than the Note 7. Never seen people using the Note 7 in 2024, but i see many people using the LG V20 even in 2024 (Including myself)

Would just like to remind that the iPhone 6s was a special case for iOS updates because, iPhone 6 major OS update ended with iOS 12 which released in 2018 and the latest iOS 17 devices also only go back to 5 years i.e. 2018 iPhone XS/Max, and iPhone XR. iOS 15 devices still get security updates though which is cool.
love how this man is prettymuch an alternate dankpods
Would be kinda cool to go earlier-middle where there was still Blackberry and Symbian too.
I know someone that still has a Samsung galaxy s5 or s7
I still use a 6S Plus as my secondary phone
Honestly its hard to argue that the S5 even had water resistance, as i knew many people who's S5 died due to water damage from accidentally dropping in the sink or into a shallow puddle, and I had to dry mine off after walking home in the rain (something well known to not be a problem, I mean it's not as if I live in fucking Scotland).
Also the rubber reversion on these is bad, like mine the rubber started turning back in about 2018, so I don't imagine any of the original backs don't have this issue by now
True, especially if people didn't click the back cover on properly
Dude, I had a Moto G3, and it has a removable back (not battery tho), with the same kind of rubbering. Motorola never said it was water resistant, but there were rumors about it so I went on to test it. And yes, after submerging nothing bad happened
Smartphones were a thing since 2001 with Nokia 7600 or whatever it was called. First touchscreen smartphone was the iPhone. Not the first smartphone.
I got my 6S+ out to use an app that is no longer available and was surprised by how easy it was to come back to, aside from the old battery.
the 6s was a champ in terms of software support
samsung with design and microsoft with failure

On the Apple Spec page for the 6S, they removed all mention of 3-D Touch. It was deleted from the OS I guess.

Android OSes release towards the end of year for example Android 5 was released in end of 2014 that makes it the main Android OS of phones in 2015 so Samsung wasn't using outdated OS at the time!!!! And yeah now they have the highest number of years of software support of any Android now
samsung updates are like that because the s series phones release before the new android version releases that year. for example, the s23 series came with android 13 and released in februalry 2023. the android 14 update came out just a few months ago and then samsung has to theme it and maybe add a new feature or two. so thats why samsung devices ship with a year old os
