wow dude, just came here from your june 2021 ep4 wr vid, and you sound completely different lol! how you've evolved into an entertaining presenter ;) and back in these days your hr was usually well below 100 bpm xD
@@coincident Ahhh, okay. I look pretty stupid now. Regardless, it was fun to watch. To see and actually understand all of the speedrunning strats people have come up with. It is also crazy to see how you already know where all the enemies spawn. Makes you seem like John Wick running through annihilating everybody.
I know this is one side of Coincident, but I enjoy the face rocketing Coincident and the memes more, haha. Well done in this run, it's fascinating to see the complexities involved in such a feat!
Super impressive! I gave an attempt at this exact run about 6 months ago, but I kept missing monsters at E1M5-6-7. You were faster than me, as I noticed you are using the chaingun more than I or the previous WRs are. I really enjoyed watching this, congratz!
16:11 This here ambush is STUPID rough on PSX Doom. I was doing a usual UV run and I thought I would die before I realized where the exit hall was. I threw myself to the far corner and ran that chaingun til empty, and resorted to the chainsaw I got at E1M1.
Great run. Despite the major hiccup of E1M6, you still beat the record by 10+ seconds, so I guess you'll beat it again soon. Also, the commentary is fun to listen to. Edit: Watching your heart rate on E1M8 is fun, but TBH, I really hope I had your calm. Even a 7 minutes run will make me go to 150... I guess I'm still too bad a player, lol.
I think because its post-commentary, you can commentate accordingly instead of using "lets do this". That being said, i really enjoyed the commentated gameplay and i think the things you say help make the viewing experience better :)
3:02 "Come on, barrel, die!" *ahem* Thou canst not kill that which doth not live. But you can blast it into -chunky kibbles- metal scraps. 17:22 HAMMER TIME
Do you ever see yourself revisiting Episode 1 in the distant future? I know Episode 2 and Episode 3 are no gos. But do you see Episode 1's time improvable by enough that you'd revisit eventually with your improved skills?
Probably not; simply because there are so many other interesting WADs to run that doing a repeat doesn't seem worth the time, even if I could improve the time significantly. I don't hate episode 1 or 3; episode 2 is the real "no go"... so frustrating! But I gotta get to episode 4, for example, that's a much more valuable target to run. Anyway there was another speedrunner (I forgot the name) that got a sub 19 run of this episode recently, which was a really nice run.
I love this run, coincident! Are you nervous when you know that a good finish to level 7 will set you up for a record time? There are some really clever tricks for clearing monsters quickly, I love to see the tactics. This record shows how even record runs can have some majorly bad moments in them, like the door closing near the red key in level 6. Who is that reacting in the room?
Well, after 100+ attempts, and a lot of deaths, I don't get nervous anymore. I do get frustrated sometimes, but that's life. The person "reacting in the room" is me. There are two audio channels in this video: 1) the commentary that I added after recording the run; and 2) the sound of my voice, live, at the moment of recording. That's also why you can hear the mouse + keyboard sounds.
also a great run. btw, made 18 secs on E1M4 UV Speed today yay. anyways, why i'm writing, so far i've been using crispy doom which works really well, but i thought to give prboom+ a shot since so many runners seem to use it, but honestly i hate it a little bit, find it a bit unresponsive in the menus and generally not user friendly and with some weird default settings like 150% game speed and so on, but what irks me the most is that with crispy doom i can let it display the current time on the HUD while recording and keeping standard HUD size (the one with doomguy's face and all) where in prboom it seems only be possible to get the time when using minimized HUD variants?! also prboom+ is ugly af. :p anyways, cheers, your runs help me out a lot^^
@@coincident might try it some day, but think i'll stick to crispy for the time being, because it just works. oh and it also has an option for kills/secrets display on the automap which i didn't even bother to check for until i read your comment here about this option bing a thing in prboom. will be a great help in UV Max runs. thanks. (honestly, i would have thought it weren't allowed for speed runs, but since you are using it, i guess it's okay?!)

Thank you :)
thank you for adding commentary!
I like to imagine this is how Doomguy ran through the bases. He sees the demons and goes, "W-WHAT THE F*CK IS THAT?! KILL IT!"
The little wiggle of victory on the mouse display at 20:27 so good haha. congratz man, amazing run
Hey, I didn't notice that detail. Thanks :D
This run was AMAZING
Just discovered this channel recently so I'm a bit late to the party, but still, congrats! Amazing run!

lol love the moments where we can hear "live" you goes "oh f***" in the background then narration is like "That went well, let's continue!"
Alone this is a great run, but the fact that you are doing it all while also explaining everything in your live commentary is amazing.
Thank you. Note that this voice-over was recorded after the fact. The live commentary in my runs is mostly just... grunting and swearing... 😅

how does his navigator know how many monsters are left at the end of E1M7? Is he counting the whole time?
I use the advanced HUD of prboom+, which shows the monsters and secrets left.

What source port are you using? Does it affect timing at all?
Source port was PrBoom IIRC. There might be more info on the demo files. In game timing is the same as in the original doom executables.
