I always wondered why Tom Hanks' narration over the final scene reversed the interior two lines of the poem he read to Sophie after he opened the cryptex. Then I realized after my last, possibly 30th viewing, it reflected the order of his discovery at the Louvre versus Rosslyn chapel. LOL hard to explain but watch those two segments again. Masterful, masterful filmmaking!

Yes, but I think from what you can see in the bible. This should only have been possible after His resurrection, since Christ came into the world to die, and deliver us from hell. It may be that in the brief period that he was present on Earth, before ascending and returning to the heavens, they 2 may have finally been able to exercise their humanity. But, what I said is just a hypothesis. One day we will all know. You know I believe, there is strong evidence of this, especially coming from the movie industry.

Still gives me goosebumps whenever I listen to it. And I am not a religious person at all, but the music truly touches the soul.
I feel somewhat content after watching this scene. The feeling you get after having a mystery solved.
I don't know. I understand where you are coming from, but for me the feeling is somewhat deeper. It is like jumper cables bringing to life and bridging a gap that is at a minimum some 2,000 years old. I can't express in words how much I love this scene.
I'll explain further. Its the carrying of this secret, father to daughter, daughter to son, that expresses in this perfectly imaginable sense of time, what once belonged to the abstract. I'm nutty, i know.
I'm Catholic, and happen to live in Detroit where St. Anne parish was founded in 1701. It is the oldest parish in Detroit and the second oldest in the US. But you take Rosslyn Chapel; 1400's; young by European standards. Hate what the Catholic church has become, it has stood through time.
After seeing this film a few years ago. There is a feeling in my heart to want to find out more about Mary Magdalene. Why ? Day and night I always think about it. Am I crazy ? I am not a religious person.

@@jamesoxford4260 I completely agree - the scene perfectly encompasses that feeling of being such a small link in the greater history/scheme of things. Langdon kneels and in his face we can clearly see the reverence of a man who - although he studies and knows how religion is flawed, recognizes what man has done and has kept through millenias. What church has become - ultimately, we can't do anything about it and I reckon it was the source of a great deal of evil. But I still look at cathedrals, places like the Mont Saint Michel or even the small Rosslyn Chapel, and even the simple act of believing, having faith, and yeah I see the duality of divine and man, mingling in some sort of a dance through the centuries. This scene is perfect for so many reasons and this is one of those.
I almost cry everytime I see this ending after watching the movie in its entirety. It's like a feeling of salvation and pure warmth. Makes me want to kneel myself. Powerful ending.

It wasn't so much faith as much as it was trying to find the truth of a faith he's long been a part of even though he never really believed in it. He believed Jesus was a real person, just not the miracles he was said to do: something a lot of agnostics acknowledge. Still doesn't believe in God's existence (something he acknowledged in the second movie), but in the end, that's what makes him a good protector (or Knight Templar if you prefer): for him, it's protecting someone Jesus loved from those who seek to destroy her in his/Peter's/God's name. Through Sophie, he's come to respect the woman herself, and thus the man himself, not the legend.
If the saviour made her worthy , who are you indeed to reject her? . Feel divine recalling this line seeing this scene .

This movie came out in 2006. I wonder how much tourism was increased in Louvre museum during summer 2007. Sorry if my English was bad.
It was increased. They set up barriers around the stone pyramid at the bottom, because they didn’t want fans of the movie trying to get into the fictional vault underneath.
I was there for a birthday weekend with my girlfriend (wife now) back in 2009. The place was packed out. Trying to get a good view of the Mona Lisa was a nightmare as they had a barrier keeping people at a great distance. Also funny that in the movie the painting was bigger that the one in the museum.
It has been the world's most visited museum for decades.

Ron Howard really showed the powerful director he had become with this movie. An amazing scene not because of the dialog or voice over, but really the lack of it to force you to let the mystery overwhelm you through the visuals and musical score.
This movie will never NOT make me cry and just be stunned.

Even as an atheist this scene makes me feel like I must kneel in humble reverence, not in piety, but in respect. A respect for a story that if true could change the cultural landscape of entire nations and lay down the swords of entire armies.

I was stoned when I first went to see this film. As the scene played out I burst into tears, no idea why, the emotion just got too much for me. I'd read the book twice before seeing the film and just the scenery, the meaning behind the scene and the music was emotionally overwhelming.
The music is absolutely breathtaking and adds tonnes to the emotional impact of the scene. Arguably Hans Zimmer's finest hour.
Like the murmurs of spirits in the darkness, forgotten words echoed. The quest for the Holy Grail is the quest to kneel before the bones of Mary Magdalene. A journey to pray at the feet of the outcast one.
When you realize that the room the Holy Grail lies had to have been built during its construction, and that it had to have been moved there probably within the last century or so ago. That building was probably built to be a hiding place for the Holy Grail. Which makes you wonder how many places were built with a special hidey hole specifically built to have the Holy Grail to lie and hide in mind?
The Pyramide Inversée was constructed in 1993 though and it's above a shopping mall, so yeah I don't think it does have a secret room underground with a sacred sarcophagus. But there are many historic buildings around the world which do have secret chambers or spaces for tombs of important people, buildings like the Taj Mahal or the pyramids.
The Vatican is one of those places with "hidey holes". Sacred tunnels, depictions of Satan all over the walls. Rooms full of bones, etc.
For someone to watch this on 2021 when this film came out in 2006 is mind-blowing..I remember watching this in cinema thinking "is she really buried there?" I would challenge myself every single day but in reality it really shows that no matter what belief you believe in, this movie is a true masterpiece 🥺❤️
Even today this scene gives me goosebumps! I really don't know if all this is true or not. I don't want to question somebody's faith either but, oh boy if this is the ultimate truth then I might loose my mind. So pure and divine.

I believe a friend said it here as well - I get goosebumps as I watch this scene. True or false, fact or fiction, it is primarily an amazing story. But to kneel before the Saint who could end the oppression of so many would be the most pure feeling a man could ever have.
Forgive me for being a dumb shit, but I've always been confused as to how the sarcophagus of Mary Magdalene could 'end the oppression'. It may be due to my lack of Christianity knowledge, but would you be able to explain it to me? I love this movie but it frustrates me that I couldn't understand the whole meaning to why finding Mary Magdalene was so important and why people wanted to destroy her.
@@yumimaramouto Because it would allow for genetic testing, which would prove that Jesus was married and had a child (thus the heir). It would destroy some of the myths taught by Catholic church, and lessen their power - and so they would not be able to do things like forbid condoms and whatnot.

People bitch how the historical inaccuracies of this movie, which is fair. But the fact is, there is very little reliable information from this era. Fiction of this era is basically free real estate, the bible is a book FROM history, not a history book. A fun movie

Tom Hanks is my favorite actor. His roles in The Davinchi code, Angel's and Demons, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan and Castaway are my Favorite movies that are well orchestrated. My favorite scenes in The Davinchi Code is the ending, and when Robert Langdon discovers Sophie is the last living descendant of Jesus Christ, The last Supper, and when Mr Langdon cracks open the Cryptex.
There are alot of critics to Dan Browns book but I just think they are jealous of Dan Brown because they didnt come up with the thought or idea AND that his book has established loads of attention and that Dan Browns novel is pure genius; OR his book is fact that the critics KNOW the secrets of the Holy Grail that Mary Magdalene was suppose to lead the church that it WILL devastate the very foundations of Christianity. Well done Dan Brown. I have The Davinchi Code book and will guard it with all my might.

I'm a Catholic and I never understood the hate this movie gets. Maybe it's possible Jesus was married it shouldn't make his sacrifice and teachings any less special.
Exactly the point, that Jesus's teachings are unique regardless of being married or not. I would add that "The Last Temptation of Christ" has gotten an undeserved amount of hate for similar reasons.

There’s no way that, even if she’s real and her sarcophagus is still intact, that she’s under the Louvre. This story only puts her there because The grandmaster of the Priory of Sion was the Louvre’s curator.

Meaning: After he arrested Teabing with Sophie, the final clue lead him to a church which he suspected held Mary Magedelene’s tomb, however, instead of finding the tomb, Sophie reunited with her grandmother and brother. The grandmother told Langdon that it was brought out of the church by Jacques. Even though she knew where it was, she left Langdon to find out on his own.(Also, Sophie decided to stay with her family and left Langdon to go back to Paris).
Once Langdon was in Paris and back at his room for the night, he started to go in depth into the clue. Finally, it dawned on him. He realized that the final clue was referencing to the rose line located next to the louvre glass Pyramid. Once that happened, he started running to the louvre. Then he went to the inverted pyramid to see the rose line, the perspective moves to under where Langdon is showing that the tomb is right under him, which ties up the film/book.
Tom Hanks casted as Robert Langdon is one of the best castings ever done.
Perfect person to play Langdon easily

Is this the same building where Sonier's body was found in the opening? If the answer is yes, then Mary Magdaline's body is buried beneath the same building. Notice the Blade and Challace sculptures. Which means that this took Robert in one huge loop.
