2016 Jeep Patriot radio- all audio functions would play for about 5 seconds and then shut off for about 5 seconds, and do this repeatedly. I tried your procedure and it worked flawlessly. Thanks.
I have a 2016 as well with the same issue. Did this also fix your CD player sound and XM satellite sound cutting off? Does it all work again or just the AM/FM Radio?
@javiercoronel1169 did you try it yet? I've got the same problem on my 2012 jeep liberty. Gonna work on it today. I'd rather try to fix it then buy another or pay a dude money 💰 if I can do it
Just made this repair to my 2014 Jeep Wrangler radio this past weekend. Worked perfectly! My AM/FM stopped working a few months ago and then last week, the radio sound would go on and off every few seconds. This repair fixed both issues! Thanks for the video!!
I had the exact same problem on my 2014 Patriot. I followed this recommendation and it worked perfect! I did it a little differently though as I don’t have a heat gun. I disassembled it exactly as explained then put the radio on a sheet of cardboard on a baking sheet at 405 degrees for 10 minutes. As soon as I pulled it out I used a wooden spoon to press on the offending chip for 30 seconds then let the whole unit cool for about 20 minutes. Once it was cooled I reassembled everything then installed it back in the car and everything worked perfectly! Prior to losing all sound completely there was a high pitched whine but even that is completely gone. Great bud and thanks for the help!
I was having the sound fade out every 5 seconds, for about a second, with my aux cord and on radio stations in my GF’s 2014 Jeep Patriot. I had a slightly different radio (the Sirius XM enabled one) that disassembled the same way and applied heat and pressure to the same controller with a heated metal tong 3 times. After a few minutes of listening the issue seems resolved!!! Thanks for the straight to the point, easy to follow video! Hopefully anyone reading gives it a try.
I wish I could do something to like this video even more. This is by for the most simple, yet obscure instructional video and automotive fix I’ve ever seen/used. So simple, so strange, so effective. Pro tip: I used a soda can and some metal tip ties to form a cone on my heat gun, because I didn’t have an adaptor.
All I can say is thank you. There are no shops here to buy a radio. The dealership wanted $170 just to pull it into the garage. I applied your technique except I don’t have a heat gun so I warmed the chip and used a plastic “shim” to maintain pressure on the chip and left it in there. So I will see if this continues to work. Fingers crossed!!!
I just completed this on my 2012 Jeep grand Cherokee and it fixed both my AM/FM channels. I recommend wearing gloves when you get to the metal frame to add grip and prevent slips / cuts. I went to Walmart and got a $10.47 heat gun. THANKS!
Wow! I just did this on my 2015 Jeep Patriot and the radio works fine now! It only took me about 45 minutes. Thanks so much for this video and saving me money! Merry Christmas!!!
For the same people having this problem and worried about a heat gun just go buy a handheld torch from like family dollar. Mine was 3$… quotes were like 200$ to fix I fixed for a total of 6$ HAHA I love it
This worked for my wife's 2015 Patriot Latitude. The first method didn't work, but I heated up a 4" deck screw head and pressed firmly for a few seconds, heated a little more and tried again. Worked like a charm. Thank you for the video!
Can confirm this worked great using a heat gun, and the cone shaped attachment that comes with alot of them now, hit it on high for about 5 seconds or so hold it down 30 or so and worked great again. My question is, who the hell was the first person to figure this out lol
There are a couple components on these Uconnect head units that are known for this issue. Some of the repair services are charging around $150 to do this, I'll be it in a professional warrantied setting. A proper electronics repair shop that does reflowing and SMD can do this probably slightly cheaper as well. I believe there is a filter, and a cap that is also known for failing on both the high-speed and low-speed units
Absolutely worked! Exact same problem, and fixed for free. I used a thermometer to make sure the heat gun I used got to at least 450° F. 10 seconds while holding down the chip with a dowel rod did the trick. I did not have to modify the heat gun as in the video.
Worked perfectly on my 2016 jeep patriot!! I just burned a chop stick, let it cool for about 5-10sec and applied pressure for 30sec (2x) and now I get to enjoy my radio again!! Thank you 🙌
I just used a bbq lighter and gently heated the chip while pressing. Worked like a champ. Radio fixed. So if you are careful, you do not need the fancy heat gun set up. Elaborate and cool if you want to go that route. Bottom line, this works!
Instructions were great. I had to make a tin foil funnel held onto my heat gun with long velcro strips since i didnt have materials to make the metal attachement you did but bottom line is the radio is working again with your great video. thank you very much
Excelent video same problem on my patriot and i did the unistal and jus clean very well around that chip and i apply little heat and works again my sound but i think in some future time this coul happend again so i just find a android stereo upgrade that is awesome has all the new conectivity and touch screen
My radio works perfectly, then just stops working, then at some point works again. But the Bluetooth works always. Is this the same problem you were having?
I just now noticed you said the Bluetooth always works. That's pretty strange. I would still bet on it being the same issue. The only other weird thing mine ever did was when I'd first get in the vehicle, for roughly 10-15 minutes I would get only static on every AM/FM station. Then at some point it would suddenly start working. I pushed every combination of buttons in that car trying to effect whatever that was when I would get only static, but it only ever started working when it felt like it. Have not had that issue since doing the video procedure.
@@highlife6951 Good luck. If it helps your decision-making, I managed to get the radio out and taken apart in about 20 minutes, another 20 to put it all back. The second time around only took about half that long. 🤷♀️
Hey gang, I had the same issue. Every 6 seconds or so my radio would cut out with a little popping sound. Just did the trick in this video (used a hairdryer with a funnel made of aluminum foil instead) and it actually worked!
oh also, I saw that someone used a dowel and a bbq lighter so I did that with a chopstick and a bbq/candle torch, then heated up some pliers and held that on there for good measure bc I was nervous :) yippee my car is fixed ! Now to solve some mysterious rattling under the hood :/
I had my radio replaced about two years ago and unfortunately they put the same model back in it and I am having the same problem again.. is there a recall on these radios?
Thank You 100X over Doug!! -- Perhaps a timesaver -- on my heat gun I took a piece of aluminum foil stuck a pencil in the middle and wrapped it tight around leaving a good/narrow air hole. I took some simple copper wire wrapped tightly around the foil so it would n't blow off - less than 5 minutes - it worked perfectly!! Thanks again and again Sir - V/r SB
It is a very Layman's way to Reflow the solder on the components contacts. They are known for having cold joints. This can cause high and low voltage than signals to not be appropriate, and cause some truly bizarre things.
@@beccaburge4057 we just broke down and bought a new radio unfortunately...then a month later we bought a whole new vehicle. Talk about money wasted lol
You can find the premium model that works with the low speed cam bus for less than 250 refurbished. If you had the basic unit, this provides the touch screen and all the likes. The basic unit with serious satellite is cheaper. My head unit finally failed after repair was done a year ago. I am upgrading to an aftermarket Android head unit. Did you pre heat the oven or let the radio heat up to 405 by placing in when you set the temperature?

Were you getting a popping sound through the speakers every 6 or 7 seconds ?
I don't think so

worked for about 3 days after trying this. anyway to fix this issue permanently without getting a whole new radio?
also works in a jeep compass 2017 4x4 sport -- its the same problem... radio on.. sound music ond. then dissapear... ecc.
Thanks!
Much Gratitude for this video.
Thank you
I've done this a few times but the problem keeps coming back
I think I’m doing something wrong. I’ve done the fix and everything but after a day or so the problem comes back
Thanks man this worked
I dont have the heat gun. Would my torch lighter work? How hot do you get the chip?? What’s too hot? I like the video, thank you
I did the repair and a lighter will work just make the flame small. You can use like a small piece of wood to hold the chip down as well
So what did that do?

Unfortunately this is temporary. Your radio will continue to do the same thing. And you will have to repeat this process
If he resoldered the area it'd probably fix it permanently
