I bought the CP88 and love it! It makes you want to play. The action, the sound, and the ability to tweak it on the fly is awesome! It's not a synth or controller, it's a stage piano, and it does it remarkably well.
I played one at a music store. It was running through two 6 or 8 inch yamaha speakers with a sub. The piano was fantastic! I have a CP300 that I still like a lot but the CP88 piano sounded even better.
I just got to play around with one (CP88) at the music store yesterday. It feels nice. I don’t even play well, but hope to learn (piano-ish, not just synth sequencing) as a hobby. How the actual keys feel, to you, matters a lot, and you can’t tell that from a video. I love the sound engine on the MODX (Montage), but the UI is frustrating. That, and to me, the keys on something like the MX88 or the MODX8 don’t feel any better than the $500 Casio I ended up buying as a controller for my iPad. Actually, many of the samples on the ‘S350 are pretty good, but it has no performance controls, and the onboard effects menu is very limited, with only 3 usable options for me. Thus, it’s a controller 😁

MOdx8 is killer - I love it as much as any keyboard I have ever purchased - using for all my live shows and recording - teamed it up with Korg Karma for pads
Loved the Rhodes sound on the CP88 at 3.00 mins. I think that's the best Rhodes sound available on any keyboard. I have a Nord Stage 3 compact but have a CP88 on order. I think the pianos here sound a bit too bright but the new C7 sample is absolutely incredible. I hope there are more updates in the future.

Tem que comprar os mesmos pianos, o MODX me surprende porque o timbre pode ser editado para que chegue no melhor desempenho, fora a memória sample para timbres externos.vejo que o MODX no Brasil é pau para toda obra, banda baile, pop, axé, samba pagode, sertanejo, igrejas e etc...já o CP vai para trios de jazz, bossa, latin jazz, erudito, canto coral e gravações ao vivo com piano.
The CP88 has the edge on sound with piano as one would expect and the keybed, action and feel are also better on the CP88. So if you primarily play piano its the CP88 otherwise the Modx for everything else. Im investing in the Modx7 as it gives me the flexibility for splits, sounds and light weight as well as great value. For the lower price the Modx piano is as good as it gets. I was deciding between the Modx7 and Roland Fa7 but the more i played around with the Modx it started to shine through. Its hard to fault for the money...
hi i´m edu from spain, i would ike to know if you have problems with the black keys in your modx8, because i bought one 2 weeks asgo and the sound come down when you press fast and hard continuosly the black key and with the white key doesn´t happen the same. the shop gaeve me 2 modx8+ and both had the same problem.
Os pianos no CP88 são matadores. Se a necessidade for essa no palco é CP sem dúvida, mas o MODX não deixa barato, tem pianos muito bons e aí soma-se uma gama de recursos e outras vozes que o CP não tem como competir. Resumindo, se não da pra ter os dois, a escolha é pelo que mais se adeque a realidade do músico.
Exato, se a média do músicos fossem todo terem ao menos um MODX tava todo mundo feliz. Eu tava vendo o MODX dando várias surras, até chegar nesse vídeo. Tudo no fim depende do ponto de vista. Mas que os dois são teclados à cima da média são muito sem dúvida.
Seria leigo dizer quem é melhor, porque a proposta é diferente, modx oferece uma gama muito maior de sons, efeitos, possibilidades criativas quase infinitas, comparado ao CP que tem a sua proposta principal pianos marcantes
Cp88 has a tad more clarity and presence in the piano patch. Typical of Yamaha’s higher end digital piano sounds. But is it $600 better? For all the functions and sounds you get on the MODX8 at a lower price, to me it’s the better choice for the gigging musician.
@@ThunderStudios007 Never used the MODX7. But since that one uses semi-weighted keys, I wouldn’t recommend it for piano players. It would make a great overall board for gigging, though, being lighter weight and more easily transported. You just sacrifice the piano action, which can be a setback if you’re playing a lot of piano parts.

@@DihelsonMendonca I actually sold my MODX and got a Montage a couple of years ago. Then a few months ago I got a CP88 specifically for the piano bed. It's definitely an enjoyable playing experience. If authentic piano feel is the top priority for you, I would recommend looking at one of the top of the line Kawaii digital pianos. I would put the CP88 next in line behind those. I can't comment on other brands apart from what I've read. From those reviews, the Nord and Roland offerings are also very good, but not as close to an authentic feel as a Kawaii or the CP88. they both sound great. i sold my roland fa 08 because the pianos were very ugly sounding. i guess that if you edit the pianos on the modx,they might sound as good as the cp88. but as poeple said below,they are different instruments. they both have their purposes. i want so bad to buy a modx8. for me,it sounds better than korg krome and roland fa 08
Until the cut at 1:21 both audio signals were comparable. After the cut the Modx audio signal was somehow broken, hollow and too much bass. Perhaps they accidently changed the EQ on that signal during recording. Like this it's hard to compare. Until the cut the pianos of both models sounded the same. But I liked the EP of the CP88 more.
Both are sampled played back sounds from Same Rom but only Yamaha knows if there's a difference in the DAC to its output on those 2 units. I have the MODX6 .
To those that claim that the CP88 is better then the modx, no its not. They are different instruments conceptually altogether. The modx is a proper synthesizer, and should be treated as such, its a far more powerful instrument with endless programmability and offers real FM synthesis with 8 operators and 88 algorithms, the CP88 offers better bread and butter sounds and is more oriented to live performances alltough the MODX does well in that respect too. I own a montage which in many ways eclipses both as it offers the deep programming of the Modx with expanded memory and 128 voice FM polyphony over the 64 voices of the Modx, and also the great build-quality of a CP88. While the modx/montage and CP88 differ conceptually, they still share many of the same sounds and are all great instruments.
I am agree with u. Both MODX and CP88 has a great CFX samples, which is very nice from Yamaha. MODX is a synthsizer, which is CP88 can't afford it. But CP88 has a natural wooden key, the feel that u can't find in MODX. And also the simple control directly like in Nord Stage Piano.

Why doesn't my piano patches on my MODX6 sound this good? They are not even close for some reason. The MODX piano almost has a ukulele sound mixed with the piano at times which is not good.

1. Nord Grand 2. Kawaii MP11 3. Yamaha CP88 In terms of UI, the Yamaha wins hands down with Nord being a close 2nd. The Kawaii has the best keyboard, followed by Nord (with a variant of the Kawaii MP7 keyboard). Nord scores in terms of versatility with their lovely sample library, followed by Yamaha with their content updates for the CPs. If Yamaha didn't cripple the CPs on purpose by omitting sympathetic string resonance, better organ sounds and a true FM synth (for the DX pianos), the CPs could take the lead.
Recently purchased and sent my CP88 back. There was very noticeable keybed noise on every note while playing all piano samplings (even though the piano sounds were excellent). And the Ab above the octave plinked in stead of resonating. Musicians Friend took it back right away but, all in all a bad experience. Yamaha's has developed a slap together factory mentality and to save money really low balled the Keybed. Cheap aluminum frame as well. There are many great features on it but the above mentioned issue's were a deal breaker.
O MODX tem dois motores e milhares de funções.. com milhares de timbres! Não existe mágica, o CP tem poucos timbres, poucas funções, com certeza as amostras são maiores, selecionadas, tem timbres muito trabalhados.. eu fico com CP no timbre, mas com MODX nós recursos... Ter FM pra mim pesa muito
How much better is the NW-GH action of the CP88 compared to the GHS on the MODX? I think the CP88 sounds better here, but the MODX can probably be eq'd etc to get closer? And there's e.g. the Bösendorfer library. The CP88 also appears to be fixed to 12 tone equal temperament, while the MODX can be tuned to anything (+/-99 cents per note), so I'd go with the MODX anyway :-)
Nw*GH action es mucho mejor que ghs, como pianista apreciarás mucho mejor el cp88 y en la construcción. En sonido combinado noto mejor al modx, por ejemplo piano y pad, se nota sus propiedades de sinte. El Modx es mucho más cómodo de llevar a los conciertos, pesa muy poco, suena de maravilla, sus pegas... Teclado ligero, los plásticos un tanto frágiles. Pero no se puede tener todo, si quieres calidad de construcción y teclado bueno te vas a más de 18kilos...
@@D.O.C916 te olvidas una cosa del modx8 plus, vienen con un fallo en las teclas negras, que si presionas fuerte constantemente a una velocidad despacio no pasa nada pero si lo haces mas rapido el sonido se viene abjo y se escucha mas flojo, osea tu le das fuerte como tocando una vez por segundo y no le pasa pero si es un segundo tocas 4 o mas veces la tecla negra la priemra vez suena fuerte pero las demas se viene el sonido abajo y pierde volumen, es muy raro, pero en la tienda probre un piano ditigal yamaha que trae el mismo teclado ghs creo y le pasaba lo mismo, probe un roland tambien y a ese roland no le pasaba. me ha dado coraje por que me gustaba el modx8 plus pero por ese fallo, lo devolvi yo no lo quiero un teclado que le pase eso la verdad. No se si el cp88 al tener otro teclado mejor seguramente no viene con ese fallo, no se si comprar el cp88 pero claro el modx8 tiene muchos mas sonidos....
The CP samples seemed cleaner and more detailed. The grands weren’t awfully far apart, but the MODX sounded more digital in the mid range to me. The uprights on the MODX had nowhere near the clarity and character of the CP’s. As for EPs, the CP wiped the floor with the MODX. It’s Rhodes EP had so much detail and character. I really wanted them to sound identical given the price and better customizability of the MODX but the samples just aren’t that great on the MODX. Hopefully, after awhile, Yamaha will put the CP samples on its other workstations. I love the sound of the CP but it’s just not capable enough for layering and sound design for me. Someone let me know if the Montage has any of the CP’s sounds at the same sample quality.
The MODX Rhodes he switches to at about 3:22 is a better match for the CP Rhodes sound than the one he started with. Though you can also download the nice Rhodes sounds from Purgatory Creek into the MODX.
Es interesante la comparación , pero a la ves absurda , no hay proporción, primero xq el CP es un vintage programado para Pianos y todo el poder esta basado ahí.. y el modx.. es un sintetizador.. media gama , que tiene grandes pianos , pero no a la altura del montage.

It depends on what you like. I happened to make it down to the store yesterday, after months of “sheltering”. I thought the action on the CP88 was better than the MODX8, which it better be for the price difference (2500 vs 2000 I think). Honestly, ignoring the sound engine and knob / expression controls, the keys on the MODX8 (and MX88) don’t feel any better than the Casio CDP-S350 I ended up getting as a practice keyboard / controller, which was literally half the price of the MX.
Hace como 2 meses sí le agregaron el CFIIIS al CP88 pero aún falta el S6, una vez lo tenga creo que tendrá todos los Pianos Yamaha, me llama mucho la atención ese teclado pero si lo comparo con el MODX tengo muchas dudas ya que la cantidad de samples del MODX es incomparable con el CP88, es como si del 100% el CP88 tiene el 20%.

pay attention when he plays them at high velocity (when he press the keys more), definitely not the same piano sound. modx sounds more like a modern grand piano with an upfront midrange - cp is more vibey and digital.

MODX8 is like a 2k resolution video. CP88 is like a 4k. It sounds better and richer. The GH3 makes it feels better. But I still love my MODX8.

I used to gig with the big guy, CP-80! 400lbs in the Anvil cases! So everything seems light to me;)

I also got rid of my FA08. Very thin poor piano sounds. Ordered a MODX8+. I still like my Juno DS88, very much superior to the FA08.

I hear a chorus effect on CP affecting (detuning) the pitch on the attack segment of the first piano sample. Am I alone on this?

i can hear a difference in stereo spread of the sounds...to cp is more wide to me
CP is also more heavily chorused if I may say so.
CP88 sounds better, but both are drowned in reverb, which makes them sound digital.
Recently purchased and sent my CP88 back. There was very noticeable keybed noise on every note while playing all piano samplings (even though the piano sounds were excellent). And the Ab above the octave plinked in stead of resonating. Musicians Friend took it back right away but, all in all a bad experience. Yamaha's has developed a slap together factory mentality and to save money really low balled the Keybed. Cheap aluminum frame as well. There are many great features on it but the above mentioned issue's were a deal breaker.

Que nada. Os timbres do CP são melhores.
O MODX tem dois motores e milhares de funções.. com milhares de timbres! Não existe mágica, o CP tem poucos timbres, poucas funções, com certeza as amostras são maiores, selecionadas, tem timbres muito trabalhados.. eu fico com CP no timbre, mas com MODX nós recursos... Ter FM pra mim pesa muito

How much better is the NW-GH action of the CP88 compared to the GHS on the MODX?
I think the CP88 sounds better here, but the MODX can probably be eq'd etc to get closer? And there's e.g. the Bösendorfer library.
The CP88 also appears to be fixed to 12 tone equal temperament, while the MODX can be tuned to anything (+/-99 cents per note), so I'd go with the MODX anyway :-)
Nw*GH action es mucho mejor que ghs, como pianista apreciarás mucho mejor el cp88 y en la construcción. En sonido combinado noto mejor al modx, por ejemplo piano y pad, se nota sus propiedades de sinte.
El Modx es mucho más cómodo de llevar a los conciertos, pesa muy poco, suena de maravilla, sus pegas... Teclado ligero, los plásticos un tanto frágiles. Pero no se puede tener todo, si quieres calidad de construcción y teclado bueno te vas a más de 18kilos...
@@D.O.C916 te olvidas una cosa del modx8 plus, vienen con un fallo en las teclas negras, que si presionas fuerte constantemente a una velocidad despacio no pasa nada pero si lo haces mas rapido el sonido se viene abjo y se escucha mas flojo, osea tu le das fuerte como tocando una vez por segundo y no le pasa pero si es un segundo tocas 4 o mas veces la tecla negra la priemra vez suena fuerte pero las demas se viene el sonido abajo y pierde volumen, es muy raro, pero en la tienda probre un piano ditigal yamaha que trae el mismo teclado ghs creo y le pasaba lo mismo, probe un roland tambien y a ese roland no le pasaba. me ha dado coraje por que me gustaba el modx8 plus pero por ese fallo, lo devolvi yo no lo quiero un teclado que le pase eso la verdad. No se si el cp88 al tener otro teclado mejor seguramente no viene con ese fallo, no se si comprar el cp88 pero claro el modx8 tiene muchos mas sonidos....

Yamaha overall is better but that MODX can’t be stopped. Only thing that can one up that is the montage and that’s only because of build quality.

The CP samples seemed cleaner and more detailed. The grands weren’t awfully far apart, but the MODX sounded more digital in the mid range to me. The uprights on the MODX had nowhere near the clarity and character of the CP’s. As for EPs, the CP wiped the floor with the MODX. It’s Rhodes EP had so much detail and character. I really wanted them to sound identical given the price and better customizability of the MODX but the samples just aren’t that great on the MODX. Hopefully, after awhile, Yamaha will put the CP samples on its other workstations. I love the sound of the CP but it’s just not capable enough for layering and sound design for me. Someone let me know if the Montage has any of the CP’s sounds at the same sample quality.
The MODX Rhodes he switches to at about 3:22 is a better match for the CP Rhodes sound than the one he started with. Though you can also download the nice Rhodes sounds from Purgatory Creek into the MODX.

Es interesante la comparación , pero a la ves absurda , no hay proporción, primero xq el CP es un vintage programado para Pianos y todo el poder esta basado ahí.. y el modx.. es un sintetizador.. media gama , que tiene grandes pianos , pero no a la altura del montage.
Pero si el modx tiene los mismos sonidos que el Montage, porque dices que no esta a la altura??
@@ayrtoninchejanampa6874 tiene los mismos sonidos..., pero el montage es más poderoso a la hora de tocar en vivo... el sonido tiene mas cuerpo , más oscuros.... pero el Modx para ser inferior o un modelo más económico... es una máquina tremenda

Tienen los mismos sonidos... pero el montage se dispara a la hora de los sampler además... gran Detalle'.... y a la hora de tocar en vivo esta la diferencia..., pero son detalles y apreciaciones...Saludos

It depends on what you like.
I happened to make it down to the store yesterday, after months of “sheltering”. I thought the action on the CP88 was better than the MODX8, which it better be for the price difference (2500 vs 2000 I think).
Honestly, ignoring the sound engine and knob / expression controls, the keys on the MODX8 (and MX88) don’t feel any better than the Casio CDP-S350 I ended up getting as a practice keyboard / controller, which was literally half the price of the MX.

El Full no me gusta mucho pero el S6 grand si deberia estar, incluso creo que un CFIIIS como el CP1
Hace como 2 meses sí le agregaron el CFIIIS al CP88 pero aún falta el S6, una vez lo tenga creo que tendrá todos los Pianos Yamaha, me llama mucho la atención ese teclado pero si lo comparo con el MODX tengo muchas dudas ya que la cantidad de samples del MODX es incomparable con el CP88, es como si del 100% el CP88 tiene el 20%.

Achei o som de piano do modx 8 mais grave e forte, ou seja, com mais ataque.

pay attention when he plays them at high velocity (when he press the keys more), definitely not the same piano sound. modx sounds more like a modern grand piano with an upfront midrange - cp is more vibey and digital.
