I'm a Penn State fan but we looked overmatched in this game.. We still lost in 2016 but at least it was much more exciting lol. I honestly believe that this USC team should have been playing for the national title.
They should have been playing instead of OU and likely would have beaten Florida

One of the biggest wasted seasons
As a Penn State fan I wasn't ashamed to lose this game. This USC team was the best team in the country I don't care what anyone says just look at the stats and the players they have in the NFL now.
I'm a USC alum and fan. I thought the Nittany Lions gave us a better game than what the highlights showed. This was Pete Carroll's last really great team. I also think this was Joe Pa's last season due to the Sandusky scandal. It saddened me to see Joe Pa go out like this. He deserved better.

You’re right the good ole boy network in the east did their best to prevent an SC matchup vs the SEC in the natty during those yrs .

The national title game that year shoulda been USC vs Florida. The best offense vs the best defense. If there was a defense that could have shut down Florida's high speed offense that year it woulda been USC's hands down that linebacking core and secondary of USC's was insane. It would be close. They’d split 100 games played. SC was so physical and at the beginning of Bama’s run, that was the 1st thing I noticed about them

If it wasnt for that night on Thursday when they fell asleep against Oregon St., they would of played in the Naty. But Texas lost that year and they were still in the Championship, i guess their lost didnt count.
Considering Pete Carroll's success against the SEC, I like the Trojans' chances against Florida.

@@robjohnson8861 He also swept Arkansas, 70-17 in '05 and 50-14 in '06. Again, not Florida under Meyer, but the '06 Razorbacks won the western division of the SEC, so not chopped liver. A matchup of USC and Florida for the '08 championships would've been the two best teams, and the two best big game coaches. Shame it didn't happen.

Yeah but still, how many one loss seasons did Bama have? I mean why is it that Bama had one loss against LSU in 2011, then LSU had to play in their CCG then Bama gets a rematch in the National Championship with LSU? Makes no sense. And boy did that happen a lot.
Don't think you understand that every season has different circumstances. And also bama lost to respectable teams where as usc lost to some pretty awful ones.
Yeah but how do you skip over teams who play for their conference championship? Or win it? That always bothered me. USC might've lost to some bad teams, but when you play in 7 straight BCS bowls 6 of which are the Rose, you deserve to play for at least a few more titles.
All conferences aren't equal. And '11 was rare, both bama and LSU were pretty clearly the best teams that season. Not like 2 teams from the same conference happens often.

im a usc fan. all three ou, lsu, and alabama are solid games between any combination of the 4 for a nc game. but dont fall asleep on florida state. that team is stacked and they have some athletes there. with their schedule, they may run the table. That will have them in the discussion. But how i would love and undefeated SEC team vs USC in the national title game.
This USC team would've dominated Florida. Even Vegas ranked us better than Florida. But once again the east coast bias of the BCS kept us out.

PSU grad but a fan of USC. Best team of the 2000's (sanctions be damned).
PSU was in this game but USC's relentless attack off of PSU turnovers killed them. Stephon Green's fumble in particular was a backbreaker, had PSU scored on that drive they would've went into halftime down 10 as opposed to 17 & it may have been interesting. USC took their foot off the gas a bit in the 2nd half but in the end they were the better team top to bottom.
Please take the BCS this year, I can't stand the SEC

Both SC & Penn State are pretty conservative as far as their uniforms are concerned. SC has a bit more flash, but compared to the Oregons, LSUs, Marylands of the world, the Trojans are old-school. Both teams wear black shoes, ommit names from backs of jerseys & stick to tradition (which both have in abundance). Extended to the cheerleaders, SC is the more conservative, with their white-sweater clad gals in the same unis for over 40 years. PSU lost to perhaps the best team in America in '08- USC.

I think the B1G is the second toughest conference but they dont play well in bowls. USC killed the B1G this decade in the Rose Bowl. Matt Barkely is really really good but he hasnt played in a bowl game before. Im sure he will enjoy that this year
Always felt bad for Penn State. They were always looking like they were on their way to a national championship apperence then something always seemed to happen to derail their chances. Most of the time losing to ONE unranked conference team. And on the other side, this is sort of the last Hurrah for USC sinxe this would be their last major bowl game before Pete Carrol left and the NCAA penetiles rolled in and everything fell apart from their.

USC is too much for Oklahoma this year. The only teams that could slow down (not stop it) our offense is LSU or Bama. We have two all american receivers, two 1000+ yrd running backs and an awesome QB. The only way Oklahoma can beat USC this year is in Norman.
