Thanks so much for doing this. I've been looking for a transitional instrument before plowing head first back into owning an AUB. This will be perfect for my needs.

Lindy, if you do end up getting one, I did another short seemingly silly video with an improvised bridge mute. It made a very impressive difference in the “upright-y-ness” of the sound.

    Wonderful sound.
And with a double bass technique.
That's what I am looking for.
    Remains to find the money.

Great video! Because of a wrist injury from many years ago, I am shifting to the UB804 from the electric bass. I have really long fingers, so not having to deal with wrist angles will be much better for me. Thanks for posting this update.

I'm sorry to hear about your wrist! I suffered frequent "pins and needles" sensations in my plucking hand from a lack of care with my wrist and wearing my electric basses too high for many years. I hope you fully enjoy the UB804. -Brad

@@MaineBassGuy... Hey Brad! Thanks for the response. My injury came from being hit by a car while on my way to work during my days at Berklee. My fretting hand wrist was fractured and just never healed properly. I stuck with playing the drums afterwards, so the muscles in my hands and forearms adapted ed to that playing technique. When I attempted to start playing electric bass again, the supination of my wrist while inverted prevents me from playing without a lot of discomfort. At least with the upright, I can keep my forearm relatively straight and take out the majority of wrist angles. Aging sucks! 😠 Cheers!

Love my UB804! It has a sound all of it's own that is very different than an electric, and somewhat close to an upright. Yet, the sting length allows the use of standard bass strings. Also, it is almost as transportable as a regular electric bass. That is one issue with a double bass, the size. I play mainly on Electric Bass, but there are some songs I just have to use the EUB on if I want the right sound and feel.

Хорошо звучит. Но звук больше напоминает безладовую бас-гитару, чем контрабас. Интересно бы послушать звук этого инструмента при игре смычком.

It's okay but certainly not close to the sound of a real double bass.
Sounds alot like an electric bass with a fretless pedal or at the very least an acoustic fretless bass.

If it’s possible to say this in a way that’s not self-serving, you should definitely check out some of the other videos of it, I know it is not a real double bass but it’s definitely distinctly different from any of my fretless electrics, it may just be its own thing!?

We have the same last name and soon I’ll be getting the same bass. What amp are you using. I’m getting a decent ampeg amp for about 350.

Is that a lefty bass, or did you flip the video?
On your other video you were playing it with the other hand.
Is it possible with this bass to string it in the lefty style, or do you need a different base?

    • @MaineBassGuy
      @MaineBassGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Okay, no problem.
I really like the sound of that bass.
If you wanted to, could you string that thing lefty if you wanted to?
I think it depends on the nut at the top of the neck. If the grooves are sized based on the size of the string, then you cannot restring it lefty.
I don't think the pickups care, although they might because it is wired a certain way.
This might be a question for the manufacturer.
