Superb! It's so heartening to see someone of such talent and integrity interpreting these beloved songs we've known for so long, in a way that is both faithful to Sandy's aesthetic and yet gives a sense of newness and revitalization. And "The Sea" really is a hard song to sing! Congratulations! Please do continue!
Wow, I had to let your words sink in for some days because I was so moved that you took the time to listen and watch so carefully... and that you found these words for what Im trying to do here! Thank you so much for the positive energy and these wonderful sentences! Thank you as well for your support!🦊
The guitar sound is spot on. Sandy was very fond of water metaphors. There's one in What Is True? which says "it's never ventured through the locks where the brazen river flows". This puzzled me for a long time till I realised that the house at Byfield is just above the feeder reservoir at the summit of the Oxford canal which goes down through many locks, past Cropredy and on into the river Thames towards London.
Impressive version of Sandy's the sea...I was lucky to see poor Sandy perform twice... great wording "Time? what is that? I've no time to care. I've lived for a long while nearly everywhere".
Thank you for taking the time to write a comment! Its so helpful and heartwarming to read that people like what Im doing and it helps me to get things going! Im missing the concerts so much...its such a huge different, playing in front of a camera or playing in front of people...
A truly wonderful rendition of a deep meaning metaphysical song. Carla delivers this masterpiece of a song with such an affinity that I suspect that she is one of the few people who fully understands its import. Arguably Sandy's final line is the most poignant line in her songwriting career.
Thank you so much for your words and for listening. I really did a lot of thinking about this song and I neeed to travel to the nearest "sea" available. Turned out to be lake constance :D I sat there, listened to the waves and birds and tried to play Sandys song. "Do I ever wonder"...yes...a lot, said the waters...
Thank you for listening and writing your thought! I could only play two concerts last year and my virtual audience really keeps me going. It means a lot to me, when people comment on my videos, the resonance helps a lot!
Hi Cara, This was an outstanding rendition. Very beautiful, faithful and authentic. I hope it would be much of an ask if you share the chords/tabs or even the tuning. I would love to be able to play along. Well done and thank you!
Hi thank you for the kind words :) I do play it in D A D F# A D and I think the easiest way to figure out the chords is to have a look at my fingers! Let me know if that helps! I learned it by ear and writing down the open tuning chords end up very often in very confusing looking chords that are actually really easy to play 😅
@@songsofsandydennyThere used to be some Sandy Denny site for chords etc., tunings, but I think it got taken down. I used to play it with one of Harlan Thompson's transcriptions/tabs online a few years ago. It's playable in standard, but of course it sounds spot-on to the record in this tuning, as it should. I think you can get away with a lead guitarist in standard if you have a band, or second guitar person, and they want to play that lead that's on the record over it.
Thank you! Such an amazing song. I travelled to lake constance to get the right feeling. I made a funny video there, me performing "The sea" in front of the lake. Maybe Im going to upload it just for fun ;)
@@dankinsler1930 I love this song! I have one version with my cat on my knees, while playing it... crazy cat lady blues! Maybe Ill just upload it for fun. Fantastic. You did it in a better quality than Sandy. Wow....mindblowin`....with all this details around the guitar (is it a Martin?)....musically and visually. I am excited. 💖
Oh wow, what a compliment! Its a Tanglewood, she sounds like a Martin and I just love all her nuances. This guitar speaks to me and shows me the way. I bought it years ago when I was a kid and I spent all my money on it. Best decision ever! The Sea Captain as well, in All Our Days th sea is also the last picture in the verse at the end! She loved the sea.
Very haunting. Great take on a great song
