  • Welcome to the Ultimate Travel Guide to Washington's wonderful San Juan Islands. This guide takes you around the most visited and populated islands (San Juan, Lopez, Orcas and Shaw) and shows you how to get to the islands, how to get around, where to stay, eat, get coffee and what there is to see and do in this beautiful chain of islands.
I remember my first visit to the islands, over 25 years ago. I cycled around San Juan Islands and was bitten by a number of wasps. Nice. And since that first visit, I keep coming back, and for good reason. It's gorgeous!

FYI Anacortes is not part of the mainland. It is on one of the San Juan Islands - Fidalgo Island. You can drive to it, thanks to some bridges.

You're totally right - slip of the tongue. The funny thing is, I live in Anacortes. Cheers.

Actually, Fidalgo Island is NOT part of the San Juan Archipelago, so not one of the San Juan Islands. All the San Juan Islands are encompassed in San Juan County as per the USGS. Fidalgo Island is Skagit County. Btw, I am a proud resident of San Juan Island.

@@carmenw.9617 Good to know. But it remains true, that Anacortes isn't on the mainland, but on Fidalgo Island. I'm not going to do the research, but I suspect those islands were formed from the same geologic processes, no matter our arbitrary naming/labels. Including Canada's 'Gulf Islands'.
