    Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
    I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
    I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!

    I replaced my disks on a 34ft JD 335 disks a couple of times , went from the original 24" plain blades to a scalloped 26" x 3/16" blades when we did.....made a huge difference , especially in heavy trash eg: sorghum stalks , ....also used a old worn one back on the "leading disk" on front gangs as a backup washer ,behind the new disk as extra strength backing plate , worked great !!

    Get a laser engraver and then make them into clocks. Make Border View Farms and Excel Seed versions. Give them away to your best commenters, best seed customers, etc. as promotional items. They would make a great shop or garage clock.

      Or, donate them to a local shop program if your area high schools have one with the suggestion that they could be made into clocks for the students to give to their parents for Christmas, etc. My cousin did that with slate tiles off an old roof and all of the parents loved it. Take the donation as a tax write off.

    I agree with the disk wear. I think some marketer guru had the bright idea of selling more blades by reinventing the wheel. Garden centers like the worn blades by making them into yard art as flowers.

    As far as the used Wavy Disks, See if a local Ag/FFA program would want them for welding projects. When I was an Ag Teacher we would use them to make Boot Scrapers

    I used to buy my neighbors used disk blades to use on my two disks when I farmed back in the 90's. He ran a few thousand acres of cotton and peanuts and had to replace the blades on his two disks every other year. His disk ran 24" blades and he would run them down to about 21". My two disks came with 22" blades from the factory but thinner than his. His disks were 30' and mine were both 10 and 12'. I could get five or six years of use out of the blades before they were too small. They also cut much better than new blades ever would and were heavier. Just before I got out of farming he bought two new disks and his new disks had different axles than my disks so my cheap blade vendor dried up. I paid him $5 a blade which I thought was fair as compared to the cost of new blades.

    That’s one of those repetitive jobs nobody likes to do. Changing Shanks, shovels, etc., they all seem like it never wants to end.

    Do you pay a deposit upfront for the tiler to pay for materials? Do you have to schedule in advance to get on the schedule?

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We pay for the tile directly from the tile manufacturer. Usually let them know about how much we want to do well in advance but like I said in one of the videos they have installed at least a little tile for us every year since 1981.
