On this episode, Darwin, a friend of mine, is interested in selling his awesome 1978 Kenworth W900A model truck with a 475 HP Detroit 8V71 turbo and blown Detroit 2-stroke diesel which for my money is the best sounding engine and jake brake combo out there. Originally, Darwin wanted to build this truck up in a rat-rod theme but ended up pivoting and started to make more of a Smokey and the Bandit style truck. The result is a mean sounding, very fast, low and long beauty that anyone out there would be lucky and proud to own. He’s asking $70,000 for is but is open to offers. Darwin is a class act 👍 I remember when he brought it to the Lesco show in 2016 , he could make the turn signal work by honking the horn at that point 🤣🤣🤣

Never say never mark. My father an I built a lowered 96 Chevy 3500 with a 6.7 Cummins 10 speed eaton fuller. He used it for towing his 42’ Montana fifth wheel. Said he’d never sell it. Well, one day I got a call to come get his trailer and when I asked why I was told “I got the offer I couldn’t refuse”.. we’re starting another build lol

I went to school and worked with Darwin's nephew in Westlock. Remember him tellin me about this truck grinning ear to ear, it's really cool to see what Darwin did with it.

That engine brings back memories. That sound will always stay with me as it's the engine that got me my truck licence over here in Australia. It was in a Kenworth SAR. 78 model with a nine speed box. Loved driving behind that beautiful noise. Great video guys.

Really? I hated the Detroit V8s. Hauling cotton at 3am, 2200 RPM for 12 hours straight. Drove me nuts. Going to 3406 was the best thing ever! Until I found C16s
As much as I love how the Pete and snowman sound, NOTHING beats a V8 Detroit

Silver 92s always sound sweet 🙂 They don’t quite have the spine-tingling brap of the 71s but I could happily live with one. Just the small matter of $70k plus shipping to the UK and import duty to consider… Ah well, it was a nice idea for the few seconds that it lasted 🤣 I hope a sympathetic new owner is found. That is my all time favorite truck. Currently have a 2005 W900L with a split window cab and mounted a aero one sleeper the 6NZ 550 Cat and 18spd gets it down the rode and I was thinking about either the Bandit screme or the Moving On scheme but that Splendor interior looks great in this tractor. Great job redoing this old iron, don't sell it you'll regret it down the road.
those cavalier/sunfire bucket seats are so damn comfortable swapped some in my old minitruck years ago lol
Hey Mark finally got caught up on all your videos, March 26 I lost my mother and me and her use to watch your videos together so after the thumbnail giving me a heart attack, thanks to you I finally started to watch again. It sounds kind of silly but it’s true. Just like you , my mom and my wife are my cheerleaders in everything I do . The only difference now is that God wanted another angel for himself. Make sure you hug mom and tell her you love her everyday. Anyway I’m throwing a big wave from Florida and thanks for the thumbnail it got me watching again.

I used to hear a v8 Detroit every day while hauling trash to the landfill we had three white road boss and one Pete cabover was 1985 362 and the first Cummings was Ford 9000 and great video keep up the good work God bless from GA stay safe

I never was much of a Screamin D fan and trust me I drove lots of them. But some fella's just make a detroit look good, You both have done a fantastic job on those trucks. my wife and i had our '79 kw in the 2nd smokey bandit movie filmed on a dry lake bed south of Las Vegas---Jerry Reed almost ran into our truck during filming--i dodged jerry's truck and crew got mad,said they will pay for damage--told them i had a haul to do and needed my truck to do it! Jerry and director Hal Needham were cool--the rest can buzz off
I used to haul combines from North Dakota to Kansas with a 8-71 detroit 25 yrs ago and can still hear that ol 2 stoke in my sleep. Loved it

Nice knowing the history of the truck. He sounds like a rather cool character. Anyone who likes to build a truck or play with them is a unique character. Hey, you didn’t show his face when you gave him the 15 pack of COORS. Bootleggin is fun! Love the Silver92! My brother’s CL9000 has the Silver 92. They have a very unique sound to them. I love the Cat engine sound, but about any Detroit sound is quite radical! Hey, that truck would look so good in my driveway!!! I do have a few neighbors that would hate me & look the other way when I came through the neighborhood though. I’ve already gotten, “What do you need all those trucks for” from a few. Hmm. It's great to hear that there is a new truck build in progress. I guess that's what it's all about respectively what most restorers like the best. Working on a truck, then showing it for a while, then selling it and then restoring the next project. Of course "some" of them do 3 trucks at the same time. 😁 ;-)

If the goblin truck from maximum overdrive and the Smokey and the bandit truck were combined THAT would be the end result! All the cool things (minus the goblin head) from the goblin truck on a KW is pretty slick
Part of me thinks there was actually supposed to be a kenworth that was a main part of the movie, there's multiple different covers on the movie box and one had a kenworth on it
Look up Steve Feszchak, he was at MATS earlier this year with his 362 Pete "Orwell" and came across the Goblin Truck, complete with trailer livery, mask and he even drove it.

Those two stroke Detroit's, man do they scream. Learned to drive on one, almost got fired from my second driving job driving a four stroke Cummins expecting it to sound like the two stroke and reving it a tad high, lol. Left driving long ago, but there is a dude near me with an old GMAC with a 71V logging truck that comes up the mountain from time to time, I want to run down to watch it go by like a kid. I went out on a boat with a couple of 71's , I did not even care about fishing, I just wanted the captain to keep running those 71's wide open.
That would be really cool if it had the correct bunk on it

The 8V92 Silver Series is my favorite sounding Detroit. We had one in a 4300 Binder on a logging job. Great sounding engine.

Darwin does have a nice Smokey tribute truck, but to be honest, yours is the better tribute truck. Well, except for the rear suspension.

Such beautiful country up there, I'm out here in Hamilton Twp NJ and my wife and i were riding our Harley this past weekend and we're out in the country and there was nothing hills, green county and i said to her that its hard to believe we're in NJ . it's Just one little section of NJ that's just messed up with industry, the rest is all country ! this videos reminded me of that. anyway aye hello from hamilton nj usa~! tell him not to sell it . he will only regret it later one i know because i sold my trans am and i regret it every day now! it had a big 455 big block and a 400 Muncie trans in it 388 rears and it was the most scariest car ever lol
I got a 1979 A model K whop 3408 V8 CAT that’s done up like his. Bigger sleeper though and liter cut straight pipes 7 inch plus heat shield because I like the classic look vibe 0 muffler all turbo and yellin old dirty CAT! Let that coal roll
