  • Driving south on our 7,000 trip, we finally hit great weather. We explored Galveston in what turned out to be a very economical way. At the recommendation of the locals we started at 2 free museums so we could understand all of the area's rich history. Yes, there is always the beach, but why stop there. We found a ton of things to keep our attention that were cheap.

We lived on Galveston back in the 70s when my husband was stationed there. It's one of our favorite places. We try to visit every year.

It seems very nostalgic when we visit places we lived long ago. You'd be the expert on this video. Any places you'd recommend?

We're headed to the island this weekend - will be our second trip, but we barely left the hotel last time. Thank you for this VERY informational video. Well done!

Thanks for filming the Galveston area. Your blending of video and photographs reminds me of Ken Burns style of presentation. Very well done.

I love Galveston so much!! I have been there 5 times, and am planning my 6th trip this September. I still haven't seen nearly everything that I want to see there. It's by far my favorite vacation spot.
Thank you for this video -- I didn't know about the fort park on Bolivar and have never taken the ferry. I think this next trip, that will be on my list.

Next time check out the Bryan Museum, which has an astounding amount of late 1800’s memorabilia including a lot of firearms.

Too bad you missed the Ocean Star. All the stuff you showed can be seen just about anywhere, slightly different flavor for sure, but how often does one get the chance to on what had been an actual off-shore oil rig????

Sorry you didn't find value in the video. It's funny you mention Ocean Star Oil Rig. It was high on our list of museums to see for the very reason you mentioned. But, like I said in the video we were having so much fun with all of the free things to do there, I decided to chill and just enjoy the, as you put it "flavor" of Galveston. Happy travels.
