Unbelievable, my mom told us about this restaurant when we were kids. She lived there in the late 50's and early 60's before moving to South Florida. She has fond memories of eating there and hasn't eaten better seafood since!

Back in 50's my brother and 2 sisters loved going there as the waiters never ever wrote down exactly what any of us ordered. Mom and dad always told us to respect each waiter and speak to them clearly and respectfully. Great memories and Txs Gaidos!! Still great food and selection.

True. Back in the old days the waiters never wrote down the order, but simply because they never went to school nor they learned how to write or read…

I've lived in Texas my whole life. Been to Gaido's many times. There are tons of seafood restaurants nearby in Kemah all owned by the Landry's chain.
I much prefer Gaido's. Small family owned business, great service. Great locally sourced seafood. If you want non-franchised good seafood it is the place to go. It is a bit pricey, but the quality and service are top notch.

Wow. I remember going here with my parents since the mid60s and throughout until the early 80s when we moved away. I was able to come back in 2020 w my own son and I still remember his face when he ate their food the first time. Gaidos always has great food and service. Once I get back home in a week or so, it seems like I great idea to return. We’ll see y’all soon!

Thank you for doing a review on this restaurant, Shane. My husband & I live in Edinburg, Texas (close to South Padre Island), and have been to Galveston twice in the past few years and wanted to try it. Our hotel was right around the corner. I am definitely trying the oyster platter & red snapper you were eating. My mouth was watering 🤤🦪 Papa's pizza in Galveston is one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten, too🍕We love your show👍

Great place to eat. We went there one time all the way from Houston with another couple, 31+ years ago, just to eat. It was later in the evening, we placed our order, and waited a pretty good while for our food. And then heard a loud crash in the kitchen area! The waitress came to our table, and yes, that was our whole meal, on the floor! They quickly remade everything, apologized profusely, and gave us a great dessert on the house. It was an excellent dining experience and we got a story to tell from it too! We need to go back another time soon.

I lived in Galveston beginning in 1975 while being stationed there with the Coast Guard. Back then were lots of small Mom & Pop seafood places in town with fantastic food, and the only time most of the locals, BOI, ate at Gaido's was if we had out of town guests. There were several local fish markets in town and if we wanted fresh seafood we went there, bought it and cooked ourselves. A much better eating experience and far cheaper than a table at Gaido's. I was there 3 years ago, the food was mediocre and the prices were way too high, only the tourists eat there because most of the locals simply can't afford it.

My husband and I spend every winter on the Bolivar Peninsula and have eaten at quite a few restaurants along Seawall Blvd. We tried Giado's just once and will never go back again. We didn't even make it to a table. When we arrived, more than half the tables were unseated with more than enough wait staff standing around chit-chatting. The hostess wrote our name down and said it would be a few minutes. We were the only people waiting for a table. We waited...while people ate, paid and left. The wait staff continued to chit-chat. The hostess stared at her phone. We asked how much longer the wait would be 3 separate times. We waited 90 minutes, then walked out and went over to Nick's. We were seated immediately and, as always, had great food.

As a life longe resident of Galveston, great restaurants are few and far between and you wouldn't think that to be the case for such a popular tourist destination. With that being said, Gaido's is middle of the road at best, it's more of a tourist trap being on the seawall and it's stand out huge crab on the front. There are a couple hole in the wall joints that are much better, otherwise you need to travel up the road a ways for something top notch.
