    I have been using tap its for 25+ years. A few years ago I watched a video on tap its by a Master cake decorator Nicholas Lodge.I must say your video was more detailed than his. I have also seen some other Master decorators demo tap its at the I.C.E.S convention and they weren't as detailed as you. You are truly gifted. Keep up the good work.

    OMG! Seems like I am always on your heels with the cakes!! I have to make 2 book cakes for this Saturday and I didn’t see a tutorial from you to make these. Can you do one tomorrow??? 😆LOL!!!!
    Great video. I ordered the tappits. They are pricey so I didn’t get two sets like you advices but I will!!! I know that I know they’ll break. They are really nice. I had never heard of them before. You’re full of information. I am so grateful to you. I’ve been doing cakes for a long time but since I’ve discovered you, my cakes are so much better. Thank you for what you do. There’s no one else out there quite like you. You’re the best!

    Do you use a pasta roller to roll your fondant pieces? Best money I ever spent! I just attach it to the front of my Kitchen Aid, turn on the mixer and feed the fondant through. Let the machine do the work for you! You start with the dial at "1" and it rolls to the thickness I attach my edible image decorations to, and when you turn the dial to "4" it's the perfect thickness for tappits! What's great is when you change it to the "fettucine" size attachment, it roll several strips and makes the perfect 1/4" strips for curliques, lol.

    I follow the same process but use my non stick rolling pin to rub on each letter until it breaks off clean, then tap it gently and it falls out.. I also use a brush and cornstarch in each letter before putting the squares in. Works perfectly.. No hard smashing, and I've had my set for years.

      Hi
      I hope she sees this. I also commented how I saw someone else doing it. It worked with one tap. The back end was held flat against counter and the top part was lifted to create some tension. Upon release and in turn tapping on the counter it would release easily.
      Is that how you do it too?

    Hi Karolyn
    I have a little tip concerning the tappits to avoid banging them several times. Try a different way of removing the fondant letters to maybe avoid having them break on you so often.
    I saw this method in another video a while ago. I will try to explain as best as I can what I saw. It worked for that person.
    - Press to cut out letters as usual.
    - Put tappit flat on the counter. Press the back of tappit down. At the same time lift the other end as high as you need to and then release( It's a bit like an elastic band stretch method ). The top part of the tappit should hit on the counter and the letters should come out in one tap.

    Question about this cake, is the top book cake on a board or how did you support the weight of the top book so it didn’t crush the bottom one? I have to make a cake like this and my fear is the structural integrity. Thank you!

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      THe top book is resting on a rectangular piece of cardboard, slightly smaller than the cake. In the bottom tier, there are bubble tea straws cut to the height of that bottom book. Then the cardboard under the top book rests upon the straws and prevents it from collapsing. This video explains stacking round cakes, but the process is the same. th-cam.com/video/VwD3RqCasxg/w-d-xo.html

    • @KarolynsKakes

      It should. Just be mindful that gum paste dries out really fast, so keep the pieces you're not using in a ziplock bag until you're ready to use it.

    Once again, Thank You for such a Great Tutorial Video.
    I had just searched fondant Letter punch in Amazon h like a week ago, and was going to buy some next week. However what I found was individual letter punch sets. Where you press into the fondant and then when you pull away you push a plunger in to push the letter out.
    Question? Would this be as easy as what you use? Or is it not as good? I know when you talk about a tool or product, you always link it, and if it doesn't make a difference you usually say anything similar would also work, and or explain why you like that one best... So I was just wondering. TIA have a great day

    • @KarolynsKakes
      @KarolynsKakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never used those. However, I have a lot of plunger products (just shapes, snowflakes and flowers) and they work really well! So I would assume that those would be good too.
