His band is called The E Street Band. The black guy was Clarence Clemons, one of the best sax players ever. He died in 2011, and he was from my home state of Virginia. Also in the band is Steven Van Zandt, one of the stars of the TV show The Sopranos. He played Silvio Dante on that show.

STREETS OF PHILADELPHIA is a very moving and haunting song of his , and was the theme song for the movie Philadelphia starring Tom Hanks about AIDS .it came out in 1994 . Bruce won an academy award for the song for the movie and spoke out strongly , supporting people with AIDS back when it was it was a risk to do so. Clarence Anicholas Clemons Jr.
(January 11, 1942 - June 18, 2011), also known as The Big Man, was an American musician and actor. From 1972 until his death in 2011, he was the saxophonist for Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band.

Yes, that was Courtney Cox. Bruce's first two albums were both released in 1973. His first really successful album was the great Born to Run released in 1975. This song is from his magnificent Born in the U.S.A. album, released in 1984 and was the one where the man known as "The Boss" finally got the attention he deserved. My personal favorite is The Rising, released in 2002. His most recent album is Letter to You, released last year. That's right, he's been making albums for nearly half a century.
Most of his albums were recorded with the E Street Band and collectively they are often called Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band. The E Street Band has been around since before Springsteen's first album and many of its members have been with the band for multiple decades and they have worked with many other successful artists and released music of their own as well. Bruce's wife, Patty Scialfa, is a member of the band. Two of the original members, Danny Federici and Clarence "Big Man" Clemons have passed away. Clarence was the sax player on both songs to which you have reacted. His nephew, Jake Clemons, is now the saxophone player with the band.
You could spend a couple of months just reacting to Springsteen songs; you can pick one at random and the odds are it will be great. But the one I love the most is "The Rising," told from the perspective of a firefighter trying to rescue people in the towers on 9/11. Another great song off his most recent album is "Ghosts." And this isn't even beginning to scratch the surface of what he has created.

For me the ultimate "band sticks with a band member" is the Def Leppard story of the drummer losing his arm in a car accident. This was right after their album "Pyromania" became big in 1983. The band didn't even think about replacing him. They waited until he healed and then helped him figure out a way to be a one-armed drummer. This is why their next album "Hysteria" didn't come out until 1987. I suggest watching "Poor Some Sugar On Me" not only a great song and video in it's own right, but you get to see the drummer, Rick Allen, drumming with one arm. They are still playing and are an amazing band, not just because their music is awesome, but because they stuck with their mate, when many other bands would have found another drummer. That's loyalty!!

He reached down from his platform, took the sign, showed it to the audience, tossed it behind him, and then pulled up the older lady that was holding it and danced with her like he did with Courtney Cox in this video. That's far from the only amazing thing he did during that concert and when it was done, he was COVERED in sweat, breathing hard, and had put on one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen. Most of the songs on Born in the USA were "electric" versions of songs demoed for Nebraska. He recorded over 20 songs for the demo, then they recorded electric versions of all of them. Some were deemed to work better in the demo arrangement and were kept and released as Nebraska. The ones that worked with the full band were released as Born in the USA. Although some of the songs work equally as well in their original demo versions, such as Born in the USA, and he plays that song both ways in different concerts.

The saxofon player was Clarence Clemens "the big man", he was from the San Francisco Bay Area, and in the late eighties he played at a local club on a Sunday afternoon "Sweetwater", sadly he died some years back.

His concerts are legend and he is one of America’s greatest storytellers. I saw him during the Born in the USA tour. 4 hours! It’s Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. There’s a recent (this year) Spotify podcast with Springsteen and Barack Obama on their new joint venture.

Definitely the best live performance for me was the Born in the USA tour, which this song came from. Huge tour, we camped outside for a day and a half to get tickets! Which was a party and a half to boot. No opening band, they came on at 8pm played till midnight with a 20min intermission! The house lights were on for the last few songs. The arena people were trying to call him off stage but the band and us were not ready to end the fun. Amazing live!

True Bruce was not known for his dancing pretty much until this video - yes that's Cox (her 1st big professional gig) - this song was the 1st single from BORN IN THE USA which sent him into the stratosphere as a rock star (his career began in the early/mid-70s) and this was a COLOSSAL hit. Making him a household name. Yes Clarence Clemons - nicknamed The Big Man - was basically Bruce's brother in spirit until his sad passing a few yrs 10 yrs ago. His band THE E STREET BAND is pretty much is the same since the beginning. And yes it shows his character (even though Bruce took a break from them w/2 albums w/o them - except CC - in the 90s). Trivia note: Filmmaker Brian De Palma (CARRIE/MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE) helmed this vid.

If you were born back in the 70s or 80s you’d have to wait for all of these great songs to come out. The advantage of being around now is being able to listen to all of these classics on demand.

@@yaimavol True, there was nothing like top 40 stereo stations back in the day. It was truly magical. On the other side, I enjoy having a digital museum of any amazing song I want at my fingertips.

Bruce and the e street band got their start in Ausbery park NJ and the bar they got their start in is called the Stone Pony. A buddy of my was a huge fan so he decided on day to drive from upstate ny to Ausbery park. When he sat down at the bar of the stone pone the bartender came over to ask what he wanted, the bar tender was stevie van zant, the guitarist for the e street band. My friend was shocked and got another shock, stevie told him bruce and the band was going to play that night and once it starts the doors are locked. He got a concert that went on for hours, had beers with bruce who even signed his boots..
