    I'm a huge fan of this comeback! And not just because Dreamcatcher Slayed.
    On the surface this song feels like a lot more of a mainstream, self-confidence song, which we've definitely seen a lot of in recent years (and it's never a bad thing to have more self-confidence songs). But after having watched it a few times, there's something distinctly unsettling and ominous about this song & MV.
    I'm 100% certain this is a critique of something. The best theory I've seen someone (cant find the comment unfortunately for crediting =( ) bring up is that is a critique of narcissism on social media, which I think makes a lot of sense considering the direction of this MV. We've got lots of standard vanity shots (girl on car, girl on bike, girl in store), and then all these shots of the behind the scenes of photoshoots & editing, sort of showing that a lot of things we see on social media are faked/edited. We also see the "fight" between Handong & Yoohyeon and Sua & Siyeon, but when the action is cut, Yoohyeon & Handong go back to being friends, maybe something about staged conflict between people (idk throwing spaghetti at the wall somewhat x'D)
    Then we get into the lines. "Popping the Champagne, Look at My Necklace, Wearing my Black Dress, Cruising my Rollie, Cash in the Backseat," again things that we see a lot on Social media. And then its followed by the line "We call it so sweet." and then Dami's rap I think really brings it home with the Narcissism point where her lines come off as very much 'f*ck off, I'm above everyone, I'll do what I want, even if it hurts other people.' Specifically her line "Driving on the highway, Drunken everyday. How is it, do you feel like a monster?"
    And then we have this sort of overarching theme of them being watched by other people. We have people tuning into 'DreamChat' and the mysterious 'ymenehcra' (which people have pointed out is 'archenemy' spelled backwards) sending various strange messages throughout the video that say "Do you believe in the power of the crown?" We also have all these close up shots of the girls in the behind the scenes with this strange, almost fish-eye bluring as if we're watching them through a hidden camera (see 4:02 in the video for the start of those shots). And finally the camera shots starting at 5:17 where Ji-u 'turns us off' as if we were the cameraman the whole time and they all disappear.
    Idk, as I said I'm throwing a lot of spaghetti at the wall, but I 100% think this song is a lot darker than a lot of people realize.

      yesssss also a small detail i didn't notice until my 10th watch lol in handong's part you see her looking flawless like a princess, until the camera captures her whole body and we see that she has her legs completely bruised........

      Is it? Since the first time I watched the mv I thought HanDong legs looked a bit off, but my sight is not that great, so I thought it was probably just an attachment that I wasn't understanding because of my bad vision.
      I'll give a closer look to it.
      I just saw it...
      Omg, how come nobody notice this!!
      Why don't you leave a comment on the mv about this, so people will notice it too??

      I think the lyrics are also a satire of the k-pop industry itself. They sound plain at first, but if we remember that 90% of k-pop group sing like this and use this "girl crush" concept, DC are basically saying that they don't need to follow that path because they can do better, but in their "fashion", staying true to their identity and concept

    • @TheBlbeemer
      @TheBlbeemer 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I was hoping that was the case. Since none of their songs have that arrogance and flexing. That makes me feel relieved cause I really didn't want them to go that route. I suspected but I'm glad you commented on it.

      @e-nsomnia1341 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I thought I was going too far at first lol But other people seem to share this point of view (and mostly people who began following them way before I did) so I guess this is not a false state :)

    • @numeekune1398
      @numeekune1398 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Finally, someone said that because i found something funny from this song and this comeback: other artist/group/idol/singer are usually called this kind of lyric's with "self love", "confident" or something similiar with that, but here Dreamcatcher officially called this comeback as NARCISSISTIC. Because let's be real, in a real life and real situation, people not gonna love the behavior from this lyric's, like "who the f**k you are? Please be humble" 😂

    • @e-nsomnia1341
      @e-nsomnia1341 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@numeekune1398 So true !
      And I think the satire hits even harder regarding this distinction of point of view. It's hilarious knowing that those kind of lyrics are narcissisistic for DC when they're suposed to be about self-love for every other group lol

  • @guitarplayer3270
    @guitarplayer3270 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

    I have a theory on this comeback (I'm not sure if anyone has had this same theory). A lot of people seem to hate this new sound change and concept change, but I think Dreamcatcher is playing chess, whilst we're all playing tik tak toe.
    Firstly, the album is called 'Verses Villains' but it's just said as villains. The title 'Verses Villains' sounds incomplete because usually it is 'blank vs blank', not just 'vs blank'. I think that OOTD is the 'Villain' in the sense that it is this heavily edited, inauthentic world that kind of adheres to the Kpop industry's standards (emphasis on perfection, a particular musical sound and heavily editing idols appearances and personalities). Dreamcatcher is viewed as a group that doesn't follow the typical standards of Kpop. In the beginning of the song it shows someone at a computer editing dreamcatcher ,and at the end Jiu turns off the camera which erased all of the CGI and editing.
    I think their next comeback will return to their signature rock sound because it will be 'dreamcatcher vs villains' (a lifestyle that is not true to them as a group). Maybe it will be called 'Heroes', hero being the opposite to a villain. Another reason why I think this is because I remember when all of the teaser images came out and everyone was saying that it was going to be a 'Deja Vu 2.0'. In Deja Vu, it was a struggle between good and evil, hero vs villain, and in the end Yoohyeon (the villain) won because she killed Jiu (the hero). Maybe this comeback and their next will be almost a redemption arc for the hero to finally take down the villain.

    When I first listened to OOTD, I thought the song was so amazing and great, but it was different from what I had expected, so I felt unfamiliar. But, the second and third... As I listened to it, I see myself quickly falling into the magic of another Dreamcatcher as I always did. Surely, Dreamcatcher is Dreamcatcher !

    They were known as a group called "MINX" and it was composed of 5 members :
    Jiu, Dami, Yoohyeon, SuA and Siyeon.
    The concept was bubbly (I like bubbly concept).
    MINX debuted in 2014 with 'Why Did You Come To My Home?' [MV].
    But they rebranded it to "Dreamcatcher" and debuted as a 7 member group :
    Jiu (Leader), Yoohyeon, Dami, Handong (She wasn’t a MINX member), Gahyeon (Maknae) (She wasn’t a MINX member), Siyeon and SuA.
    Dreamcatcher has been known for their dark concept (I like dark concept too).
    Dreamcatcher debuted in 2017 with 'Chase Me' MV.

    dreamcatcher \:D/
    new audience? but this song might split their fandom right down the middle lol. for my taste it's one of their weakest songs in their entire discography which has all been fire. I get what they are doing in that it's a satirical stab at the kpop/entertainment industry but this song is something I hoped dreamcatcher would never touch and I know they like to dab in all corners of music.
