Bank isn’t shutting down. It’s remaining up and functional even though the general online functionality of 3DS is going away. They have not announced plans (yet) to shut down bank.
How will Bank work without online functionality?

@Nintendo announcing the end of 3ds online servicies means that they are shutting down and probably reallocating the servers that were supporting 3ds online services. Pokémon bank will continue to function because they aren’t going to shut down those servers
@ they specifically announced that online is shutting down for everything EXCEPT Bank and Transfer.
It WILL happen eventually though. Probably sooner rather than later. So its still a good time to revisit the classics before you can't send things forward anymore.
If they add all the GB and GBA titles to Switch Online (or whatever its successor will be) expect Bank to be shut down around the same time. Especially if they do a 5th gen remake considering they are doing a Legends game in 6th gen's setting.

Here's to hoping that TPCi will keep Pokemon Bank running for as long as they can! If Nintendo can keep the Wii Shop servers running, there's no reason they can't do the same with Bank, especially since the $15 per year has Bank transfers baked in to the cost. In this case, after the 3DS online shutdown, no news for Bank will be good news.
Doubt it, there is no reason to keep the servers alive on a console (switch) that gives you access to almost all the mons already, switch is only missing like 27 mons and im sure those will be catchable in legends pizza so no need for bank anymore
@@mobious01 the problem here is that this something about transferring pokémon, the ability to transfer pokemon between each generation is something that we always treat as a given, mostly because it has been a thing since gen 3, if not gen 2 if you count the ability to transfer from gen 1 to 2. It would suck to have this ability compromised, especially as lots of people like to bring Pokémon from their adventures to newer games to have more adventures with them

You know what's crazy? I'd spend another 5 - 10 dollars to maintain Pokémon Bank so that i can transfer my old Pokémon but my theory is that Gamefreak/Pokémon Company is gearing up to add the old games to newer consoles by ways of remakes, Legends titles, and maybe even Nintendo Switch Online game service.

Gen 7 might not have been perfect, and the dialogue was a bit much, but it is still my favorite generation to date, and the only game I have completed the pokedex in so far. Also got my first shinys in this game, which is fun.

This SUCKS bc it retroactively makes the 3ds games significantly worse. I regularly use Bank to basically perform trades en masse across my savefiles. But this also severs the chain of succession that has been a staple of the series. This is Dexit but 100x worse.
To be fair switch games currently give you access 1k mons and i think only 30 mons are missing from the nat dex so in theory bank is no longer needed, specially with legends pizza releasing next year im sure by then you will be able to catch all the mons in one console
@@mobious01 in fairness, yeah its not the same issue. The similarity is in the breaking of tradition. The ability to carry progress across save files from different generations is an amazing thing which is now sadly compromised. Dexit is similar in this regard but it's more on a per species basis rather than a generational thing.
Personally, im at a point where i cant think of anything i would want to transfer up. But the biggest loss i can see here is USUM shiny legendaries. If you know you know. USUM is the best method for obtaining most shiny legends.
Dexit was never bad to begin with, unless you're one of those toxic people who thinks others shouldn't be allowed a shiny charm for w/e reason it was GOOD that they did it. OR/AS is the hardest game to get that charm in, and I have one....and it took me TWO YEARS because I HATED gen 4 so I had to ask around online in various forums to borrow legendaries for their entries. Not letting every mon come forward in the newer games sucks a lot sure, but Dexit proper was NEVER a bad thing so can people PLEASE STOP pretending it was bad. It never ever was and saying it was is one of the stupidest things the pokemon community has done hands down. Not letting every mon forward was frankly to be expected too there's too many pokemon and the work it takes even to copy a skeleton in animation makes it a colossal time sink which Game Freak and Nintendo literally cannot afford to do. I'm livid about Scarlet and Violet missing ONE alolan mon especially after that whole intro "class" in one of the DLCs but I've genuinely had it with people complaining about Dexit and how it was "bad" I will gladly take an easier to get charm after the horror story of doing it in OR. This is NOTHING like Dexit either, is it bad? Absolutely but again this is ACTUALLY a bad thing and they really need to do something about it.

I don't get why people keep calling the Legends games "remakes". BDSP was literally released the same year as Legends Arceus, they are two unrelated game series, which should be pretty obvious if you showed anyone Pokemon Platinum and Legends Arceus right next to each other and tried to convince them that those were the same game.
What's really going to be hype is the Poké Bank remakes
They need to keep a way to still trade pokemon from old games, thats one if the biggest things about the game

Whoops, just realized I put Oblivion Wing on this list, which isn't any of these, that's just Yveltal's signature move. I pretty much listed moves I don't have that I identified I can't get on my own, then manually removed the moves of the newest two Paradox versions of the Legendary Beasts.
If they had left bank on, I would have continued to pay them $5 a year until I died to keep it.

Funny that Sun&Moon was a re-ignition for the series in your eyes. In mine, it was a big sign that the series was slipping. While I loved the visuals way more than X&Y's, Sun&Moon was so on-rails and made the game so much easier that I felt that the game was playing itself sometimes.
Sun and moon were the first games I played as an adult and it totally brought my love of pokemon back.
I'll never understand why Bank had to be online in the first place, and this is another reason. They should update Bank to either use the 3ds storage instead of a server, or use the Home dervers directly.

Pksm is already already a fan hosted bank, the best thing is that it's online and it's compatible with gen 4-7 game cards.

would've been nice if they released a pokemon bank cartridge or something to keep it going offline but they won't...
That's a good idea like a cartridge or a small system that holds more then a million spaces . For example if you have a switch you could plug in a cord / something to transfer pokemon and eggs .from the switch to the system .
I kinda hope they do that. They've said that bank will keep going after the april online shut down (they're on different servers), but it will one day shut down so I hope they do release some alt way to transfer.
I don't think they are going to shut down bank for those that own it. Currently it is the only way to get Pokemon from gens 1-7 into the newer games. The newer games don't have ways to get every Pokemon; so until remakes are all compatible with home or they create a newer service for importing home is here to stay.

Pokemon Bank is also the only way to register multiple shiny locked Pokemon into the shinydex of Pokemon Home, using the gen 7 game's QR scanner and a fan made QR pack. I get this probably doesn't fall into your personal 100% requirements, but for those who consider it, the other gen 5 Mythicals, Pokeball Vivillon, the gen 6 mythicals and Ash Greninja are only able to get their shiny entries using this method!
I personally don’t care about a complete shiny dex but for people that do this is a GREAT point!
@@JmashTV Theoretically the gen 7 legendaries/mythicals are also in this category, but unfortunately the game has a check on if those Pokemon are being scanned by a specific QR code type, so no one can generate working QRs for anything after Kommo-O in the dex with the encryption key that is known by the community. This is also stopping the Capped Pikachu from being accessible this way.
@@SaltedNeosoddly if you have a shiny hat Pikachu from the USUM QR code and transfer it to SV it unlocks the shiny forms for the other ash hat Pikachus even though those ones aren't legitimately obtainable.

@@kingkmtso5107 Unfortunately, this doesn't actually get the shinies registered in Pokemon Home still, Home doesn't take the Pokedex entries from the switch games when you deposit things into it, unlike Bank with the 3DS games.

+1 for Heart Gold/Soul Silver. This past Christmas I gave my entire collection of all my old games gen 1-7 to my nephew and I kept trying to focus on how great those two were. Even gave him the Pokewalkers. Also, a Gameboy Advance, DS Lite, and 3DS.

I still have all my ‘mons in Gen 7, but if Bank ever decides to shut down I’m going to have to figure out how to mod a 3DS, clone the save, and bring them forward while keeping copies in the past. I’ve got a full living dex and like 3 boxes of shinies and event Pokemon and I haven’t transferred them because of the removal of Megas and Dexit not allowing them all to coexist in one game

Dude, they said they’re keeping some internet features alive for a very longer time, and they included pokémon home to keep alive, so you will be able to transfer even when the 3ds and wiiu shuts down
this. i watched the vid for about a minute before going to look for myself. the first result was an official Nintendo website addressing the situation, and the first thing on the page (after the intro and ToC) was confirming that Bank and Transporter will not be shutting down with the discontinuation of online features, but may be still discontinued eventually.

White and Black and their successors are DSi enhanced games. This means they work region free on a DS but are region locked when played on a 3DS or DSi.
If your region does not match, the game will not show up on the home screen and will not work.
A console with a “mod” that unlocks the region is required to actually play the games but using transporter seems to bypass the region lock for transferring Pokémon if you play them on a DS or region matched DSi/3DS

I just moved to a new apartment a few months ago, and i just dug out my trusty 3DS! I have it currently sitting next to my bed to remind myself to transfer....
I haven't been really interested in most of the Switch Pokemon titles recently, so i have yet to actually get any of them. But at least i know a local used video game store where i can easily buy, as well as keep a cool store open in my area!
But i feel like i have...at least a year to transfer??? Of course the sooner the better, but i want to double check my breeding inventory! See if i have the starters in different matching balls, and what have I already bred so far...

I could be wrong, I am far from an expert, but if a video game company is no longer selling their games, those roms become 100% legal whether or not you own the physical copy of that game. It is no longer costing those companies money if they’re not selling them anymore.

Btw, unless I'm mistaken, but if you register Lunala and Solgaleio from the Ultra games they unlock both stickers for Ultra and regular Sun and Moon.
So, the "ultimate in " and "ultimate in sheen" aren't covered here since we do have BDSP
But if you have access to the DS & 3DS I am slapping BDSP out of your hands, it's the most obnoxious way possible to get those things done. Berry breeding in BDSP takes forever, making Poffins takes forever, you have to micromanage stuff like Feel and Smoothness and proper natures because you only have a limited number of Poffins you can feed. It's all so annoying. They deserve a mention here, in this comment section
For the contest stats, the easiest-though-still-time-consuming method is using ORAS. First off they severely lowered the grow time on everything so just go to the Berry Master garden, plant a bunch of the high-yield berries for like 2 days and you'll have enough to get all your dudes done but also a second set of them if you wanted.
Then the act of making PokeBlock is instant. You just select your berries and it auto blends. notably, you can make Rainbow Pokeblock that affects all stats (just use 4 berries of different colors) and you randomly make Pokeblock+ that adds even more
Next, this game doesn't have any cap on how much you can feed. So you jsut whip up a ton of Rainbow Pokeblock, feed it to your Pokemon of choice until they have everything maxed out.
This is still time consuming in total, but significantly faster than the modern alternative. And you only need 10 Pokemon total for it since you can max out every stat.
However, because there's no cap, that means these Pokemon don't max out their *sheen*. But the Gen 3 Pokeblock, Gen 4/BDSP (notably the only post-ORAS option for filling sheen) Poffin making minigames are slow and annoying (not to mention the sheer number of berries required)...however Platinum has you covered!
If you go to the Veilstone Department store's new basement, you can just buy poffins. I think about 12 poffins will max out your sheen.
As a bonus, if you don't want to deal with ORAS these poffins will guarantee max out 2 stats of your choosing. You will have to have more Pokemon however. The only offset is that they're only bought one at a time and are kind of expensive; you'll need to grind amulet coin VS Seeker rich people south of hearthome every so often.
That said even if you do the second method entirely, you might want to take a pit stop to ORAS and max out the remaining contest stats on at least one Pokemon because there's the Twinkling Star Ribbon in BDSP (which has a challenge!) that you can only enter if you have the Contest Master ribbon and you only get THAT by winning all the other contests in either ORAS or BDSP with one specific Pokemon. Personally speaking I found the ORAS contests the easiest to deal with & I was already there for maxing out someone anyway. With maxed out stats you get SUCH a huge boost that so long as you have decent moves you'll win jsut about every time including the Lissia battle if you want to finish that sidequest; I only had to restart a contest once and only got close to losing one other time. Then you can just take that fella into BDSP and do the Twinkling Star contest. Thankfully you only need one of those!
Also, I guess this video was in the making for a while because thanks to SV's Indigo Disk DLC you now have a modern option for getting Smeargle the moves! The safest way is to take your Kyurem have it so only knows the move, go find a ditto, have it transform into you then pivot to Smeargle and have it sketch it. You might need to fiddle with speed stats and items to make it align.
....also because this method exists, they added a handful of other moves to the move dex. Behemoth Bash, Behemoth Blade, Glacial Lance and Astral Barrage couldn't be obtain by anyone, but can now be grabbed by Smeargle so....hop to that!

Coming from someone who's been playing since Silver its heart breaking watching them abandon their og games like this. I pray that the rumored pokemon works will port all old system games to the switch. Nothing beats Pt, Crystal, Emerald, & HGSS with their colors and sprites.

Some older sprites or models or animations are just easy to fall in love with, in any case. Whether people like you like that or not... But sure, go ahead and try to look down on others, based on which pixels they like best, as that's how you obviously wanna roll to cover your own false view on things.
For the record, almost half of my fav pkmn look best in Black/White2 or older versions.
While the back sprites aren't ideal, the coloring and certain other parts did add more character to certain mons.
But I'll be forever stuck in Sun and Moon because that's what I picked as my main cartridge, long ago. Should've probably considered X/Y too but I always skipped those, mainly to progress further in my White2 back then, and in my gen7 ones afterwards - I don't play that often anyway, or at least didn't focus much on pokemon then.

I hope that Pokemon Bank will still continue to stick around for a longer time. I still need it to transfer Pokemon back and forth between my games whenever I start a new playthrough. Also, all of the legendary and mythical Pokemon that I acquired through events are still on one of my 3DS cartridges. I haven't transferred them to Pokemon Home yet because I'm not sure if I could even have them in any of the Switch games with their limited Pokedexes.

Weird how different people's experiences can be. I played Pokemon Gold heaps as a kid both on English and French language carts, then Gen 3 as I hit university and I got into playing competitively via smogon for the first time. I hated Gen 4 - the power creep, one billion legendaries, and the region just didn't appeal to me. Gen 5 was fantastic for all the reasons you say. Gen 6 was even better - I loved the post-game facilities alongside the region, megas, and new designs. I could spend a lot of time in Kalos. As an art student I felt the palette of that region is just the best in the series. Then Gen 7 was the first time I felt like the whole game was a slog - more terrible storytelling than usual combined with a painful amount of cutscenes, so I spent the whole game thinking "when can I get back to playing the game"? Very different - almost opposite - to your experiences.
Probably my favorite part about posting this video so far is all the different stories people have commented about their Pokemon experience. Thanks for sharing, I love reading this stuff!
18:05 Are you sure about that? The next game on the list appears to be a Kalos Legends game, with no other news about future Pokemon games. Could be straight to gen 10 afterwards, or another poorly done set of remakes, like BDSP, without a Platinum episode (or in this case, without a B2W2 to go with it). I'm still hoping for a Let's Go Johto games, in the same artstyle as Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, but that seems unlikely too
i never stopped playing pokemon. It was a huge part of my personality. I just never talked about it in school. I would play it every spare moment i had

@@JmashTV i dont think i am lol i just never strayed from my desires. Thank you for thinking that though. I didnt care about looking cringe to people who didnt like me in the first place. And pokemon felt too important for me to give up. It still holds a lot of meaning to me as a series. Even with its games lower on the totem pole. As i grow older i realize maybe i was just too stubborn to let go of the one part of my childhood that meant something to me. And i dont think refusing to let go of your childish side is a bad thing. I did enjoy hearing your perspective though. Its a great video

What really made me comment was when you were talking about Gen 7 and how XY didnt really motivate you to play Sun/Moon. I was hellas the same way! And then in the video it just stops and quit cuts to rowlet saying “Alright, you have my attention” just made burst out laughing so hard 😂 Gen 7 is the only gen I haven’t played but Rowlet is like the only Pokémon I like from gen 7 😂

Honestly, I knew this day would come eventually.
I haven't touched Pokemon Bank in years, so my Pokemon are probably gone by now,
but IIRC there wasn't really anything too important in my bank. So me loosing my Pokemon made me think "meh".
Although this is probably because I've been feeling burnt out on new Pokemon nowadays.
My first experience with the older games was on the 3ds, that's how I got introduced to the Gameboy games as a child

Man I got hit with a nuke of nostalgia from the pokemon black/white song (eyes teared up) I completed it once and my parents threw the game away because Mexican news and neighbors told my parents that pokemon was the devil. I never played pokemon black again. But I still play pokemon go and currently playing Pokemon Diamond on DS. I plan on picking up Pokemon Black after I finish Pokemon Diamond.
Spinda also cannot be moved from Pokemon Go to Home either.
While not neccessary for Home challenges there is also a very rare Pokémon you can only find in a Pokémon 3DS Demo.
I think it was the Sun & Moon Demo where you can get Ash's Greninja & the demo is the only way to get it.
Bro I completely agree. Black and white are my favorite too. Best sprite art. Really nice difficulty curve after the horribly long tutorial, good story, had to leave the old mons behind until post game. I just think they had a lot of weirder designed pokemon at that time. I still have my pokemon on my 3ds but since I don’t really play the newer games anymore I might just leave them there

You can get Ho-oh, Lugia, and Suicune on all 3 Gen 2 games. You get the feather for the opposite box legendary in Pewter City.

Your stories with the pokemon games really make me feel old and make me realize the age diffrence.
Pokemon Gold and silver came out when I was about 11. Diamond and Pearl, for reference, when I was in my senior year of high shool. Platinum, HGSS and BW 1 and 2 all through my university.
All of the DS era games are ones I played at the time of release, but the only ones I owned at the time was Pearl. The rest I got at a later time.
For HGSS I had to pay premium in 2018, but at least it was precovid prices.
All the other main games I managed to get at the time of release after gen 3 onwards.
A new pokemon game coming out usually means buying a new console for me.
Only consoles I had before the pokemon games came out was the GBA . Even the Switch I waited for sword and shield.
DS I bought with D/P. 3DS with X/Y.
Remembering pokemon games is like remembering the history of my life. Each gen I have memoried of what was going on in the world and in my life.
The shut down is why anime graphics for the Pokémon games should be used to allow the National PokéDex to happen. Just make it a requirement to complete the Regional PokéDex to get the Shiny Charm.
D/P/Pt aren’t the only way to get GBA Pokémon onto the DS, as HG/SS also has a Pal Park, and unlike Sinnoh’s, Kanto’s Pal Park lacks a 24hr cooldown timer

I won’t say how I know but using the MOD system you could use a “Checkpoint” to save the game before a major event like let’s say a legendary capture then by using the magical powers of time travel go back to the “Checkpoint” and capture the other legendary… also having a second DS is awesome to move all three starters to one game and have one big ol happy fire, water, and grass family.
I feel the same way about Gen 1 Gameboy games. Great nostalgia, I often think about playing them again, but I don't think I ever want to.

What I'm wondering is how they're going to handle all of the Pokémon that are stuck in Home. The ones that aren't available in the newer games.
I really love XY personally. I wish it got it’s third version because as a region I think Kalos is lush and rich, it hands down has best character customization of any Pokemon game (minus skin tones and hair textures, later games improve on that, a lot) and honestly the PSS is probably the best online system in a Pokemon game to date. I just wish the games were a bit more refined because it could objectively be one of the best games in the series if the story was an improved on and the post game provided more. Pokemon XY are games to me that have a lot of great ideas but they aren’t really built upon. Why is Zygarde all alone in some random cave? What the heck is going on with AZ? Are Tierno and Xerosic related? Why are there all these random story threads with creepy ghost things that aren’t explained like the “haunted house” you go to, and the ghost girl in Lumiose city. Gen 6 suffered from not getting that third version or a sequel. Every other game prior got some kind of third version but XY was done dirty.
Also the starters being based off of RPG classes in this game is really cool to me.

FR/LG IS Gen 3. (My FR playthrough is 261 hours, but my Diamond playthrough is 99:59 hours.)
I was able to transfer some Pokémon from Pokémon bank from games such as ultra sun & moon, omega ruby, & alpha sapphire, and X&Y! And the box art legendarys were the main goal Which I successfully did, I finally beat legends arceus, and completed the dex in that game, I only need two more Pokémon to complete the kalos dex in Pokémon home! The only Pokémon I’m missing from johto is celebi! I did how ever get all the Gen 4 mon and hasui dex filled out like my kanto section! My Total of Pokémon registered to my Pokémon home dex, is 978 out of 1025! Now that’s progress! I need 14 more Gen 9 Pokémon to get 12 of them are Violet exclusive! 9 more Gen 8 Pokémon, 15 more alola Pokémon, 4 more unova mon, and two from Hoenn Which some aren’t easy to find but some won’t be hard either. It’s sad that Pokémon bank is ending but nothing last forever, that’s all I have to say for this comment! Great video by the way. 😊✌️

I went a step further with saving old mons. Took a cart dumper, and my original copy of Blue (was quite surprised to see the save still alive), copied the save file, did some tech wizardry so the VC version used my old save, and was able to transfer the mons.
My og saves have sadly all been lost to the ether 🥲 I’m glad you were able to preserve yours

The release date you used for Diamond and Pearl was the Japanese release date. The US release was on April 22, 2007.

The internet will still work on 3ds but servers for games wont work, so pokemon bank is still running for now, however we dont know how long for and its gonna be a sad day
