Wow, we appreciate you so much for reacting to EXO. We assure you guys, you won't regret in discovering Kpop genre. Specially EXO, they are known for the Vocal Kings of Kpop. Their discography is such a masterpiece. Very versatile group. They never disappoint when it comes to banger music. They and kpop in general made me appreciate all types of music genre. Kpop in general use a lot of English words (most commonly in the hook, end of sentences or the title name)
The original demos are made by international songwriters and many time translating them affect the rhythm so they let the original parts.
They also use other languages in the songs.
Imagine is like that song "señorita" when it say: "I like it when you call me señorita" is the same thing.
Sometimes is just cause it sounds cool. 😊
Is also a way to differentiate kpop (which actually is more of a mix of many style of music no just pop, for example EXO is heavy in RnB but they had done practically every music genre) from more traditional Korean music that writes by Korean songwriters and have almost zero English words.

thank you for trying to listen to kpop and choose EXO as your 1st coz you have teh right decision. they titled as the Vocal Kings of Kpop and recently the biggest streaming music in kpop gave them the title Kpop Emperor.. but i don't care about the title tho.. coz their songs anad their voices is amazing. If you want to know EXO i suggest you to react to EXO DINGO KILLING VOICE, they sang some snippet of their songs live, so you will know how good they are.
but if you really like Rap and some dark concept you can watch their MV : MONSTER, OBSESSION, OVERDOSE

Hahaha yeah it can be confusing when you first start. Most K-pop groups do mix Korean & English (or even other languages). EXO tends to have about 1/4 English ratio usually - enough to catch a line to sing along to 🎶🎶😁 and some occasional all English songs too 👍🏻 I appreciate the effort they make to include their international fans.
EXO are the group that got me into K-pop. Little did I know I was starting with the group who are considered “vocal kings”. They have a diverse discography with often a R&B feel. I hope you like more from them!

As with most of EXO's songs and MVs -- such as "Love Shot" -- the song and the story in the MV are two separate things. There are two messages that the story tells in the MV. Yes, the story in the MV is loosely based on the lyrics of the song, but the main point of the MV is mostly to tell another part of EXO's story.
There are 8 members in "Love Shot." Lay, their Chinese member, was not able to participate in this MV.
Everything EXO is involved in, and I literally mean almost everything is connected in some way to their concept and storyline. EXO's MVs are kind of like a movie -- it's a movie that has been going on for the past 11+ years -- since predebut -- and it has no sign of coming to an end any time soon.
EXO debuted in 2012 and from day one, the group's concept is that they are aliens from Planet Exo and they came to Earth with superpowers to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. Each of the members has a superpower that is unique to them and almost every MV will have at least one, if not all of them, using their powers.
Part of EXO's mission is they are constantly fighting against and battling the Red Force for control. The Red Force is thought to be here on Earth inflicting their evil agenda and corrupting humanity and causing all the bad things that are happening in the world such as war, hate and destruction of the environment, etc. While on their quest to locate and protect the Tree of Life, EXO is also tasked with trying to fix everything the Red Force has caused. And because EXO is trying to undo and prevent the Red Force from accomplishing their goals, the Red Force is also trying to take down EXO by capturing them, corrupting them and standing in their way, etc.
So each new MV or project from EXO tells another part of the story.
In "Love Shot" I'm not sure why EXO first ended up at the gas/service station or the cinema/movie theater, but the story in this MV is all about how the Red Force is trying to corrupt and control them. For example, supposedly, most fans agree that Xiumin may have been captured by the Red Force -- or maybe it's his X-EXO clone. If you notice, Xiumin is squaring off with a group of guys with guns, but a few seconds later we see someone with a mask and when the mask is removed you see that it's Xiumin, which seems to show that he may not be who we think he is.
And when Chen is sitting in the theater watching the film, you see what fans agree is Suho, as the leader, probably trying to protect the members and prevent Chen from watching the film by covering his eyes. Whatever is being played on the movie screen is thought to probably be the Red Force trying to control EXO. (Which is now thought to also be connected to the fact that we see Chen and Xiumin in the theater in EXO's new "Let Me In" MV.)
You also will see references to the movie screen with Chen being projected on the screen in their "Lucky One" MV and the scene where Suho is running through the forest in their "For Life" MV, etc. These instances seem to be showing times when the Red Force are using the videos to brainwash EXO to keep them incapacitated so they don't try to fight back or escape, etc.
In "Love Shot," one theory is that the members are fighting to discover who has been corrupted by the Red Force and who may not be who they say they are, etc., which I see as a sort of continuation of the story in their "Tempo" MV. This is why you see them being very suspicious pointing their guns -- which are filled with alcohol -- at each other. (Get it? The song is called "Love Shot" so it has a double meaning: Love Shot like a gun and Love Shot like a shot of alcohol. :D)
We also see a glass cube with a red liquid inside, which seems to be part of a theme that connects across all of EXO's storyline. You will see asimilar cube in several of EXO's other MVs.
The flowers have two purposes, one is they represent Love and EXO is collecting love, but also the flowers are a big part of EXO's storyline. There has been a flower theme that continues throughout all of EXO's MVs. The flowers are thought to be something that EXO is collecting and trying to get rid of to prevent the Red Force from being able to control people, etc. They often collect the flowers and then burn them, like you see in "Love Shot" and you will see in EXO-CBX's "Hey Mama" MV. Blue roses also have some sort of significance, but I am not sure what yet -- we see EXO with a blue rose in their concert performances of "Lightsaber" and we see Sehun with a blue rose in "Love Shot." Some of what happens in this story is explained by past MVs and other parts will hopefully be explained as the story continues in future MVs.
Money is the root of all evil, and people's obsession with material goods and wealth could be one of the ways the Red Force is using to control humanity. Which is why you see EXO trying to take down the gambling ring in their "Monster" and "Lotto" MVs and why they talk about money in EXO-CBX's Japanese song "Ka-Ching," etc. They also burn the giant stack of money in "Monster"/"Lotto." It's not an isolated incident, so that's why we see them burning money in "Love Shot" as well. It's obviously a significant thing within EXO's storyline.
We also see that everything in the MV was taking place during an eclipse. The eclipse is what controls EXO's powers and it's where they get their power and strength from. So, that is why you see in most of their MVs that they focus on the moon or show an eclipse taking place, etc. However, you should make note that it's not a regular eclipse. We see two moons covering the sun. Which, in the introduction narration in the beginning of their debut "Mama" MV, they point out how EXO comes from a "planet" with two suns. Each sun is part of a parallel universe that is alike and yet different. Therefore, this could be an indication that they aren't on Earth in this MV, or they may be trapped within another dimension. And if they are still trapped within the Red Force's maze, the Red Force could have them in a dream-like state and some of what we see happening could be happening within their minds.
Baekhyun is actually one of the main characters in EXO's storyline, so he is often set apart or singled out in EXO's MVs. He is often the one that stands alone or is highlighted in the story. For example, in their "Power" MV Baekhyun is sort of separated from the other members, which seems to suggest maybe Baekhyun is the only member that hasn't been corrupted by the Red Force. So that is thought to be why in "Tempo" and in "Love Shot" we see Baekhyun standing on top of the building looking down on the rest of the members, almost as if he is observing them from another dimension or from another time period. Baekhyun is often the one who is going behind the sense to help EXO. For example, we see him disguised as a member of the police as he rescues the other members from the back of the police van in EXO's "Monster" MV, and we see Baekhyun facing off with and confronting Xiumin in "Love Shot." :D
We also see scenes in "Love Shot" where the members are sometimes dressed in all black leather and other scenes where we see them dressed in red and black leather, which look very similar to the outfits they were wearing in "Monster," especially when they are in the back of the police van.
And now that we have discovered that the Red Force has created X-EXO, EXO's evil clones, as part of EXO's "Obsession" MV story, I am also starting to think that maybe in "Love Shot" we aren't just seeing EXO. I think maybe when we see the members dressed in bright colors -- for example, when they are in their suits -- this might be X-EXO and when we see the scenes where they are in black, this could be EXO. Because in "Obsession" we find out that the members in all black are EXO the good guys, and when we see them in the colorful outfits with the crazy hair and makeup that is X-EXO.
This could also explain why Kai is dressed in a red suit. Although I am sure their stylists put him in red because he looks really good in it, I think SM chose it because it's another hidden message within the storyline. Usually, whenever we see red in EXO's MVs this has something to do with the Red Force, so for a long time I have been wondering why then would they put Kai in a red suit? However, now that we know about the X-EXO members, I am starting to think that when we see the members in their colorful suits and clothing in "Love Shot" this is actually the X-EXO members. Therefore, Kai in the red suit could be under the control of the Red Force, as well as the other members when we see them in suits, etc.
I also think maybe the members who are collecting all the flowers in "Love Shot" are really X-EXO, as part of some evil plot. If you look at the members' expressions and the outfits they are wearing in the scenes where you see them collecting the flowers, this reminds me a lot of what they looked like in their "Ko Ko Bop" MV.
Since "Obsession," theories now think that what the "Ko Ko Bop" MV was showing us was X-EXO right after they were created as they are becoming acclimated to the world and learning how to use their powers, etc. Which would explain why everything in the "Ko Ko Bop" MV is so brightly colored as well.
But you should also know that no one really knows for sure what is happening in any of EXO's MVs. There are well known theories and storylines that are accepted within the fandom, which we think might explain what is happening in each MV. And there are theories about how each MV is connected and where each falls within their larger storyline, but nothing is set in stone. Fan theories are constantly evolving and changing with every introduction of a new piece of the puzzle.

One of the members of EXO is a renowned actor, they are all actors too, but he is the one who has the most solid career.. There is a his film, highly awarded, called: Swing kids, maybe you like it, put it on your list :)
2 - In general, all KPOP songs are mixed with some lines in English, some songs have more than others, but practically all of them have some sentences, even if they go unnoticed..
3 - Regarding recommendations, maybe you like MONSTER or OBSESSION, BOTH with a darker sound I think.. Furthermore, what most differentiates EXO from the others are the live vocals, so the main suggestion will always be EXO KILLING VOICE

Most of the songs from de groups from SM Entertainment (EXO’s agency) are written by American songwriters. Some times they keep the English words or frases when the Korean equivalent does not work for the song. I has become the norm for most of K-pop.

Welcome to the great world of EXO and kpop itself obviously. EXO is a group that debuted in 2012 with a fairly heavy base in R&B (in fact among the Kpop groups that use that genre, they are like the central image since their entire discography is based on mixing many genres with R&B). EXO's discography is known for being of high quality, so if you don't like a title track because it could be more commercial, don't worry and go listen to the b-sides, which are the group's most beloved songs.
In K-pop it is very common to use a mixture of Korean lyrics complemented by English lyrics. Now, it is not something new because Western artists have been doing the same thing for years but with words in Spanish, so it is not strange that artists from other countries do the same with other languages. Anyway, if you want to continue reacting to EXO, in addition to their tittle tracks, I really recommend listening to their albums because they are of very good quality and since they are such good singers (They were declared the vocal kings of Kpop) you will be able to discover why many people love them. . Kpop doesn't add English lines and lyrics in their songs because they don't have a Korean word that means the same thing. They add English to their songs, which is usually primarily in the hook or chorus of the song, in order to appeal to a more international adienance. Afterall, English is the most spoken first or second language in the most countries in the world. (English isn't only spoken in the U.S. or the west.) Therefore, by putting English in the song it allows everyone to be able to sing along and for the song to get stuck in your head, even if you don't speak Korean. This allows them to reach an even wider audience and helps to create larger fanbases, which drives album and merchandise sales, gives them more places to hold world concert tours and fan meetings, and also increases viewership of their other projects, such as the TV shows and movies that some of the members are actors in, etc.
And, you will hear them switching up the beat and style of the song in the middle of the song in most of EXO's songs, as well as the majority of SM Entertainment's songs in general. It's kind of SM's signature style. You will hear that same thing happen in a a lot of the songs you listen to from SM.
SM Entertainment is known for having some of the best dancers and singers in the industry. That is just a fact about the type of people SM selects to be a part of its company. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing singing and dance skills. So even the company's rappers are unbelievable singers and dancers. That is why the company has gained the reputation as the vocal powerhouse of the industry, who also happens to have some of the industry's top dancers. When it comes to SM, this is just the skill level we have come to expect. SM is an expert at finding and developing the best singers and dancers in Kpop.
SM is the company that founded the Kpop industry with the very first Kpop idol group H.O.T. (Highfive Of Teenager) back in 1996, and they are now one of the largest and most influential entertainment companies in Korea and around the world. You made the wisest choice ever to begin your introduction to K-pop with the vocal kings of the genre, EXO. I did the same by the way so I know what I’m talking about. EXO is one of the best groups out there and not only in K-pop. They are all super talented and their discography is super versatile. EXO is that kind of artist that has only good songs and great songs and whose b-sides are often better than the title tracks. Add to that the fact that nearly all the members have solo albums as well that break records left and right. The more you dive into their music, the more you’ll come to enjoy it. Many reactors get so caught up after listening to a few songs that, smartly, they decide to dive into their whole discography and get blown away by discovering ‘hidden’ gems in the b-sides that otherwise they would have missed. Fun fact about EXO, they hold the Guinness record as the fastest sold concert at 0.2 sec beating their own previous record that was at 0.4. Also, the fact they are very well known globally with absolutely no international promotion whatsoever, shows how amazing they are. Hope you decide to listen to more of their music and enjoy the ride.

Rap because of the widespread appeal of hip hop and English because it’s virtually universal, which means many fans will get the general idea behind the song, even without subtitles, and also feel like they can sing along.

the idea of putting english words in korean songs is a clever one, kpop is now worldwide known and loved, and the few english words helps the international fans to sing along with them (it's called fan chant, you can hear it clearly in live stages )
my recommendation is EXO Killing Voice video, it's a compilation of songs that cover their 11 years of existence and they are singing LIVE.
EXO is a vocal group, but their rap is also very good , by the way, the rappers are pretty good at singing too

Well for the first time reaction love shot is one of "save" song of exo 😁, if you want strong impact you should listen to Monster or Obsession or lotto by them... the rapp part more strong but the vocal is not even less at all n the dance is wow.. trust me 😊

You guys picked awesome group to react to first time and ReMARKable you’re right, it is a mixer of both english and Korean. *There is NO LANGUAGE BARRIER unless you put one.* #EXO is one of 3rd-generation OG Royals within Kpop Industry who debuted in 2012 originally with 12-members but remained as 9-member group after three of Chinese members left between 2014-2016. They have subunits within EXO as a whole: EXO-CBX (trio unit) and EXO-SC (duo unit), all the members can speak decent ENGLISH to have full conversations but are more comfortable speaking in Korean. *Believe it or not the members are in their early 30s (33-29) except for youngest until April.*
Yes, some words just cant be translated in certain languages and remain what they are in english, you just need to pay more attention to what they’re saying b/c some Korean sounds similar to english but the meanings are different. *Also, don’t forget to check the chinese member **#LAYZHANG** solo music.*
