Actually EXO's Killing Voice is the most natural sounding of all Killing Voice episodes. The post production is just minimal and their vocals are more forward.
Yeah, they are definitely talented and clearly have great voices. However, it is very important for us not just to be "yesmen" but instead genuinely honest.
I (Theo) have been working as a mixing engineer for about 7 years now and have worked extensively with autotune, and I'd say that the autotune/waves/melodyne here is quite noticeable with a retune speed of around 25 and maybe 25 humanizing enabled.
so it is definitely done as a vocal effect to achieve a specific sound since they could have basically hidden their usage of it by using more subtle settings.
Some people are probably scared of pointing this out since some fans can be very unreasonable and don't understand how these things work from a technical perspective but I respect all the fans and our project too much to not talk about the reality of the industry.
@@valenandtheo true. I am well aware of how talented exo is as a vocal group but these “studio” performances are mostly heavily edited and autotuned. not just killing voice btw!!! lmj service and its live are other example of studio live performances.
@@valenandtheo Yes, the autotune is noticeable and I know Killing Voice is very notorious in adding heavy autotune and even loud backing tracks that most of the Killing Voice performances always sounds robotic. But here in EXO they tone down the post-production compared to other performances. You can hear that they sound more natural (human like) but of course enhanced by tech and not robotic vocals which I often hear from other Killing Voice performances. If you compare EXO with other Killing Voice side by side the difference is very noticeable.
@@valenandtheoits amazing what technology can do nowadays.. but I am just curious...is 25 retune speed considered high? These effects are already in their microphones when they sang? Or was it edited to sound better? Cause I have seen and heard them sing even without mics.. and I honestly dont hear any difference in their voices.. hehe maybe I am just ignorant?
@CheG1224 Yeah, it's incredible how much technology is increasing nowadays. Every year, so many new effects and plug-ins get released for us musicians to toy with, haha.
Regarding if it is being built into the mic, no, not at all.
All of the mics simply get recorded into a music production program, and then a mixing engineer mixes the vocals after they are done, like with any studio vocal.
A retune speed of 25 isn't that crazy, it's a little bit more than what is used on the majority of American pop music. But again, it's definitely a stylistic choice because they are definitely great singers so less autotune and turning up the humanizing function would have worked perfectly fine for making it less noticeable.
I have actually personally sung some lines where an entire long note was sort of off-key and after having added pretty light autotune, nobody would have ever known😅.

This is why I like EXO. Their vocals are top-tier that show producers do not overprocess their vocals because they are confident EXO delivers quality vocals. Newer generation of kpop these days are also bops but they all sound like robots singing due to heavy autotune.

1. If you wanna hear a reggae influenced aong is kokobop by exo, from the music to the style is amazing.
2. Actually killing voice doesnt have a lot of post production, and EXO killing voice is the one with less. They recorded it just one time, something that amazed the staff of the show. And EXO are considered the Vocal kings of the kpop as they have 3 main vocals that are considered the top and standard of a vocalist, 3 lead vocals that experts said that if they were in other groups they would be main vocald and lastly 3 vocals taht have amazing register and technique.
Exo's music and discography are top tier. It is soooo diversed and wide. They don't just follow the music trend, they are the trend! They make sure that they always incorporate the old school type of music to the newer one, plus having strong vocals. And that makes their music so timeless. And yes, they are known as the Vocal Kings of Kpop. Their main vocalist ( Chen, Baekhyun, D.O.) are known as one of the best Kpop singers in general.

There are so many things to see from EXO, each of them have iconic best solo career. They known as vocals kings the best in kpop.

EXO's killing voice is different. Not much post-production is done so you can clearly hear their actual vocals. And yup, vocal kings of kpop! And EXO did it in one take, one shot. Except for Suho, the rest don't speak much English. EXO is very well known for their live performances due to brilliant vocals. They have massive discography and almost all have solo albums. They are also actors. They can do any genre but they lean more towards R&B. Cream soda means as what you actually thought LOL! They're grown men. Everytime they are asked to explain about they song, they will be gigling about it. Right now 2 youngest members (Sehun & Kai) are enlisting. They will be making a comeback this year soon and also lots of solo comebacks too this year. Plus acting projects and solo tours.
Actually, if you see various fan cons/ fan calls, all of them understand English very well and they can speak it, too. Sehun, Chen, D.O. all communicate easily with fans in English. Chanyeol responds very quickly during fan cons when the Mc speaks in English, he often doesn’t even wait for the interpreter to translate it for him. Baekhyun as well in his behind the scenes with Heartsteel.

As others have said, if you want to see more raw vocals I would highly recommend watching their acoustic session/set from their Exordium tour. It will give you a deeper appreciation for how they sound together (as well as the guitarists in their group). And I would also suggest checking out their 2018 studio album Don't Mess Up My Tempo. Tempo is the title track and is really amazing (as is the entire album). To date they have released 8 full studio albums as well as shorter winter albums and other mini albums. It's a massive body of work and that is not even touching on the solo careers of all the members.
They purposefully performed multiple songs from their winter albums even though this performance was released in July. EXO is famous for their winter albums and songs from those albums chart again every winter. For example, First Snow which you heard in this medley took over the charts again this winter and went viral as a dance challenge 10 years after its release.
This is just a skimming of the surface of their catalogue and they have done soooo many genres. They perform songs in Korean, Chinese, Japanese, English and have done songs in Spanish when performing in Mexico. Also, part of the reason you will hear English words with a purposefully different pronunciation is because Korean uses a LOT of loan words from English and has altered them to Korean pronunciation so that is how they will be used regularly in daily conversation, not just in music/kpop (just like English absorbed a lot of words from French in the past but we don't pronounce them like the French do)
EXO's song 'The First Snow' is apparently a national tradition to play during Christmas time. And last year, someone on TikTok started a dance challenge using the song's chorus part which an abundance of K-Pop idols have now participated in, boosting the song to win awards and place number 1 on Music Shows 10+ years after its release. Pretty darn amazing stuff, and is quite a testament to EXO's significance in the K-Pop industry and its history to becoming as big as it is today. Definitely worth checking them out.
EXO explored almost every music genre and style (except opera 😅) and they slayed it every time, every album has different sound and flavour, the rappers can sing, the main vocals are good dancers and the main dancers have pretty good rap skills , they are allrounders.
Their songs were covered countless times by their juniors, but there are some songs that nobody "touched" / ever tried, like Tempo and Cream Soda
Actually, when you want such a hair colour like this one (asches) or white/silver, you have to bleach it at least two times and it's very yellowish, after that you can aply a kind of shampoo that decides the final colour.
At per dato, the two youngest members born in 1994 are in the military until next year, but that doesn't stop the group to remain active , with solo projects (almost all of them have at least one solo album)
EXO was one of the best dressed kpop group from the beginning , they have talented stylists and their choreographies are also the best suitable for their style. Unfortunately, the company didn't promote them outside Asia, but it didn't stop them to gain a big amount of fans all over the world, thanks to the Internet.
If you want to observe how various their music is, I would suggest you to react to 2 MVs in one video, for example, Kokobop and Obsession, the impact is much better 😉
EXO isn't just a kpop group, but the first one to have a concept with storyline extending over their whole discography, actually I'm referring to their title track MVs, they have their own lore and no other group came close to it ( except Dreamcatcher, a girl group, have also a storyline )

i think there wasnt a single year that was a peak point fr them but they had a whole era of theirs( for evidence: pick any 4rth or 5th even some 3rd gen groups there will be atleast one member who gt inspired from exo or exo member to become an idol), frst year ws a bit difficult but then with growl they only delivered hits after hits until they went for mandatory military service in 2019 thats when the group went on hiatus and members focused on solo activities more ,they branched out most beautifully out of all groups i know. they didnt go viral globally as the group strictly focused on asian market when they promoted in their early years and after few years of their debut their company decided not to promote them anywhere. but they do have a significance presence in kpop industry and among core kpop global fans. right now they are in the middle of a war with their company now hopefully by 2025(last member will get discharge from military) they will succesfully come out of that company and can promote themselves better.

They are known as "vocal kings" of kpop industry, they're very versatile and are always moving into a genre and another really often (as an example they have a song called Ko Ko Bop which is even more reggae than Love Shot), their style is very R&B but they can sing also ballads (which is also very often for EXO), Hip Hop, Rock, funky and much more!
Their voices are amazing and all studio version has a process but obviosly they can't hide how good they are, even though when they're live it's even better, a whole different experience!!!

Exo has been big from their debut, but growl is basically the biggest of all time not just by them,there is a proverd in Korea, " if you don’t know Growl in Korea , you are either north Korean or alien," so you can imagine how big it is,another example I can give is every 2nd half of 3 rd gen,4th gen auditioned with Growl, it was unofficially mandatory for trainees to know this choreography. Exo is still big,considered as Royalty, but unlike other groups they don’t promote outside of East Asia, actually from 2019 they kinda minimize their promotion in general ( their company is shit)
Actually, Exo's rappers are nice vocalists,Exo is known as vocal king of kpop.They do sound like studio version in real life too,especially if they are just singing🤷♀️ We do expect Studio like as that's the standard for them.
We don’t speak Korean, yet we remember every single Exo song, Most Exo aren’t fluent english speaker but of course they understand it and have basic communication skill,so of course they remember basic english they use in lyrics, like my love, i don’t need money, these are very basic plus they memorize their song, they often forget Korean lyrics 🤷♀️I don’t think they they put much emphasize to remember those basic English words.

They sang their Hit Songs like Call me Baby Growl, Monster, Love Shot, Love me Right, Overdose, The Eve can also be considered a hit song even if it's beside track (also the dance practice is really popular you should watch it to know why haha) Fans Favourites (or simply songs that hold special place in the fans Hearts) like Don't Go and First Snow (the song every year tops the korean Charts when it snows), their debut song MAMA, Winter songs Miracle in December and Sing for you (EXO used to release every year a winter album and most of the money of the albums sales go to charity work), Cream Soda which is their newest song of course from their long awaited comeback in 2023

I first got acquainted with K*pop a year ago... I think the difference between K*pop and other music is in the dance. K*pop is famous for its dances. When I got to know K*pop, I first watched the music video and K*pop dance is attractive to me. And the next step was to look at the meaning of that song and if the meaning and dance of that music was good, I would listen to that music... until I met E*xo. For me, E*xo is music without subtitles, which means I don't need to know the meaning. I don't have their lyrics, I just enjoy listening to their beautiful voice and wonderful music. Whenever I want to see K*pop or listen to it, I listen to other groups' music or watch other groups' music videos. But whenever I want to listen to really good music, I only listen to E*XO.
E*XO has everything I like and expect from a very good music. E*XO dances very well and skillfully. E*XO has meaningful and beautiful music. E*XO has the best and most important characteristic of a singer group, which is the ability to sing. E*XO has the 8 best singers in K*orea. The 8 best vocalists in the history of K*pop. 8 vocalists and rappers. That means all the members can rap in addition to vocals. The power of the notes and the magical voice of E*XO members is not in any group. When they start singing, I am with myself. I say, are they really normal people? How can they sing so well and powerfully? It's as if they are extraterrestrial with a voice that comes from heaven.
E*XO can perform live music in such a way that you scream with excitement and surprise. They sing so strong and well that recently they protested to them not to perform live music so much and not to show off your good voice. In addition to singing, they are actors. They are also very good. In fact, E*XO are the most talented and best singers, actors, dancers, and models in the K*pop and K*drama industry... I admire many groups besides EXO and I like their music, such as Stray Kids, Ateez, seventeen, TXT, TNX, NCT, Black Pink, TWICE, Girls Generation, BTS, and... but E*XO is an unrepeatable legend in the K*pop music industry. This talented group It has the best members, especially the talent of singing, acting, dancing, and modeling.

For me, his biggest moment was on his album DON'T MESS UP MY TEMPO. That album is wonderful, its main song is TEMPO. For me one of his best releases.
This killing voice vid of exo basically shows exo's musical prowess throughout the years with their music. You are right when you said that their music is heavily influenced by RnB, even their music with other genres still have that RnB mixed into it. Their music is also vocal heavy unlike the newer kpop grps nowadays wherein their music have more rap lines than singing, bcs all their members, even their rappers can sing well, if not amazingly. So they dont have problems tackling vocally complex music, which is what they do ALOT actually like in cream soda. I think in terms of vocal prowess no other kpop boy group is better than them before and until now. I can say this confidently bcs exo has been in the industry for years, and they have released alot of music solo/group-wise that showcases their undeniably awesome skills, aside from that, they have alot of LIVE vocal performances that are popular or iconic in kpop, esp their main vocal line, yes they dont only have 1 main vocalist but 3 lol. They are very well known in the korean music industry as exceptional singers and soloists even outside kpop, meaning they are well-acknowledged even in the korean music scene in general.

The guy with white hair in coat that u called him cute he's actually the ex boyfriend ( and offi only bf of taeyeon) his name is baekhyun. He's one of 3 main vocalist of EXO. He's known as god of kpop and genius idol is his nickname. Baekhyun is the first soloist that break the record and became first million seller soloist . Baekhyun the God of vocals was actually ex boyfriend of taeyeon the Queen of vocals in kpop. Well back then they broke up due to fans narrative hate for their date it was the biggest news that era. They're both the best vocalist in industry kpop . I really enjoyed noth reaction.

EXO is a top-tier multi-talented group, singers can rap, rappers can sing & all members can dance impeccably. At the time when it seemed that Korean music has ended, this was the rookie Kpop boy band that ended the industry's 12-year music drought when their first studio album, XOXO, sold over 1M copies. EXO is considered as the Vocal Kings of Kpop & recently tagged Kpop Emperor by Melon Music. EXO has one of the most varied discography in Kpop that they have covered almost all genres w/ diff. vocal techniques. Being so diverse (each member has his own tone & range) they blend perfectly. What sets them apart is that they have a good balance of experimental & crowd-pleasing songs. Such artistry of this iconic idol group whose career spanned 12 years, in roller coaster ride, still going very strong. It's amazing that EXO maintain their popularity despite being inactive as a group due to conscription, & they continue to influence new gen of Kpop. They don't have so much english words in their songs because their main target market is Asia, the last time they stepped out of Asia for official group activities was almost a decade ago. They're one of the fewest active kpop groups who never sign any contract with US/Western entertainment company/label. But Suho, the leader (the one with beige shirt and jeans) can speak english quite well and Baekhyun (the one with silver hair) not influence but can understand and speak good enough for him to interact with fans in english, also he's a member of Hearsteel (League of Legend global boyband) where he need to promote not only in Korea but globally so we can see him singing/speak more in english in the future ^_^.
EXO bases of R&B style, maybe just wath their live performance especially in Seoul ExXO accoustic medley + lady luck + what if.

By the way one of them is missing. The one named Kai he's the one who is the main dancer due to him doing his military duties he couldn't be there because this Killing voice was after he was on the military.
