- This Hong Kong style fast food restaurant opened a few months ago in Chinatown, and got really popular from social media. I wanted to know if it was worth the hype!

I love the décor inside Mabu Cafe with the mahjong tables, neon signs, Hong Kong movie posters and movies playing on the tv screen. 🤩 The Gong Sik Nai Cha (Hong Kong Milk Tea) looks good, and it's perfectly paired with the Signature Eel and Scramble Eggs on Rice. 😋 Aww, the Bunny Milk Pudding Desserts look too cute to be eaten! 🐇 12:20 The restroom fridge door is too funny! 😂 I love how they decorated the restroom with pictures of famous Hong Kong actors, actresses, & singers from the 80s/90s, nostalgic! 😍 12:40 That sign is funny, and I had to Google translate to get the gist of the message - "温馨提示 禁止打罵老板 長得好看也不行" "Friendly reminder: fighting with the boss is not allowed, even if you're good looking." 🤣 Thank you for sharing this fun review, AK! 🤗
It’s a cheerful decor
@@ramencurry6672 💯 😎
It’s such a fun place
Chinatown cool😎Nice decor in that restaurant 2:38 Colorful menu with those pictures🙂Delicious looking tea and the scrambled egg😋Thank you for sharing this review A K🙂👍!!!
It’s cool now but back in the 1800s it was dangerous and you could die from tuberculosis
Much appreciated, glad you liked it!
You’re welcome!
Your meal looks so fantastic and beautifully presented! Deserves the two thumbs up.
Thank you so much 🤗
Oh dang AK!😲😯😮 That looks glorious of that HK Restaurant, Mabu Cafe with plenty of new foods and more located in Chinatown NYC!🥰😎🤩 Mega scrumptious ActionKid my NYC friend and thanks for sharing and showing that Hong Kong Chinese restaurant! 😋😛😍
Much appreciated!
Those eggs look delicious, love the tables and the dessert! When I lived in NYC back in the '80's I used to go to a great Chinese restaurant at 17 Doyer Street, called Yun Luck Rice Shoppe. They used to have a map on their business card to go from Mott to Pell to Doyer because it was a little hard to find. The address where you are is 18 Doyer Street, Yun Luck must have been across the street.
Back in the 80s, Asian food was sort of taboo for many non Asians so many non Asians mostly stuck with Americanized Chinese food like fried rice, etc…,Unless maybe if an American married an Asian woman he would eat it
Sounds great!
That dessert looks crazy lol😂🐰
The place is similar to HK proper with signage of its era then, menu offer a variety of foodstuff at a fair price...thanks AK for bringing us along this food tasting in NYC 🎉😂
You’re welcome, glad you liked it!
Those bunnies are so cute!
They are!
I wish more restaurant menus looked like this so the customer knows what they're getting but unfortunately it backfires on the business when meals are inconsistent
Very true!
Yummy
It was!
Looks delicious, can't wait to try this place out! Thanks for introducing me to a new place! I think I will even order the same meal!!
So, is this a new or old restaurant? The sign says 2011, but everything looks new? Or is it a reopening?
They opened in Toronto back then. NYC location is fairly new.
What a cool looking restaurant! That eel & scrambled egg bowl & looks just like it's menu photo. Don't waste time with chopsticks, man! Grab that bunny with your fingers like an Easter Peeps and...Yummo! Enjoy AK! 😄
We have Mabu in Markham Ontario ( North of Toronto) and Yonge street - North York - Toronto as well, the menu is totally different from NYC 's Mabu. Thank you for sharing.
The ActionKid is a respected restaurant critic as he dines 🍽 out daily. 🐼
He knows good pizza too more than the average person
@ActionKid, what time of the day / what day did you go on? Everytime I time it's like lines and take a number for 30 min plus wait..
Just an FYI...I was there 2 Saturdays ago at appr 2pm. Walked right in and went downstairs. I was seated(solo) right way.
What are the name of the meal you purchased to eat? The presentation is nice.
Scrambled eggs & eel over rice
So cute!
Yummy! 😊
And also going out is good for mental health even if you’re by yourself
😋
I only subscribe to channels where the hosts don't talk or is viewable so that the focus is on the food not them.
After your recent Asian journeys, $17.99, that's shocking! get it? Eel, shocking :) at least electric ones, haha. Definitely an awesome dessert! Cute and delicious. They should make inedible nonfood ones to take home for decoration. interesting bathroom! tunnels are cool, too, a lot of history to that building
Tried it, food wasn't great. Some staffs cant even speak Cantonese. Cant call yourself a Hong Kong restaurant when you dont even speak the language.
review says they speak toisan
overpriced
🦜 Expensive. Just being honest. Looks appetizing but cholesterol, yiikes 🥚
@@schen5425 it is pricey. But I mean he’s not eating this everyday so I’m sure his cholesterol will be fine.
$17.99 includes the milk tea. I would probably only eat half and take the rest home.
@@jungdonna
Milk tea alone now costs anywhere from $ 5.99 to $ 8.99 a drink.
So $ 17.99 is not outrageous with food including the milk tea.
If you’re on a budget, I think the cheapest Asian restaurant food is at the takeout Chinese joints in run down neighborhoods where there’s a bulletproof glass at the counter like in Washington D.C.
😋
