    Honestly, Milwaukee's alright. It's basically a cheaper Chicago, and that's coming from someone who's lived in Milwaukee for a majority of his life. I wouldn't trade it for the world though!

    Thanks so much for doing this! I am travelling to Milwaukee from the UK in a few weeks and I am dreading driving (on the wrong side of the road!) in a car I don't know (we have cars with manual gears here) on roads I've never seen before - this really helps.

    Amazing video!!! I was up there last summer and went through many of the same neighborhoods you showed...was great to see that all again! The east side is beautiful and I love the Museum by Calatrava by the lake. Love the ending with the huge interchange and parking lot, and I see you even caught a train for about a second. Very nice. :)

    It's been over 10+ years, probably 15 years since I've traveled near this road. I was born in Cudahy, raised in Franklin, and spent my teenage years in Greenfield, and my Dad in Greendale. So many memories of this city. Bradford Beach, Grant Park, Sheridan Park, Jackson Park, Wilson Park Pool, Ice Skating and Hockey, and fishing in the "Lagoon". Parties Under the Hoan Bridge 🌉 sorry if I goofed the spelling. Cruising Hwy.100 & Root River Parkway/Whitnall. Southridge Mall. The 41-Twin Drive-In Theater in Franklin, or the 24-Outdoor in Hales Corners. Both were awesome places and BOTH were HUGE parts of my childhood. I can't thank you enough for these memory reminders. It's been a long time since I've sat and thought about cruising in my 72 Dodge Charger, my 69 Hurst Olds 442, or a beat up 72 Chevy Nova. LOL my first car was a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger, again LOL! I also had 2 red beasts. A 1975 Olds Cutlass Supreme, and a 1973 Pontiac Firebird. Back then cars were MUCH cheaper and especially a old Nova, Cutlass, or a GM with a 350 4bbl was reasonably cheap and those engines were really long-term. My Dad was a car salesman, he sold new cars and used until the late 70's then used cars. Which was great because I started driving in 83-84. Cruising Hwy.100 on Friday & Saturday nights were always fun. Hot women, and back then CB radios were big? Why? Anyway all of us had em. My one buddy with a 1972 Buick Electra, it was a ocean liner with wheels.🚢🛥🚢🚢🛳 It was epic for sneaking people into the Drive-in inside the trunk...lol. 2 fit EASY. You could do three, but if they had B.O. OOOF! Sorry to ramble, but these videos have really been so incredibly wonderful. So many memories. So many things now gone, changed, closed, or just trashed. What was is gone. What has been with never ever be again, & sadly what is now can't compare to what was.

    Wow, how the hell did I miss this video. GREAT! One of the few remaining major cities I haven't been to. Believe it or not, but based on what I saw in this vid, Murray Hill and the Lower East Side districts remind me a lot of what you'd see in Oakland, CA (despite the media's never-ending insistence that the entire city is a crime-ridden wasteland). Loved the look and feel of the Thrid Ward district, too. Climatic ending under the Marquette. Another "favorited" video. Thanks 4 the tour!

    • @maxsmith695
      @maxsmith695 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I doubt law enforcement in the state even gave out DUI's before the year 2000. For majority of residents, beer drinking is a cultural thing. The state had the least punitive laws on DUI and the first 4 DUI's, used to be a ticket. Not clear on how insurance firms handled that.

    Did you check out the italian bakery on brady street? They have some really good bakery.Used to rent bicycles on the east side lake front, they had some 2 seaters. Always liked the east side. went to lincoln high school years back. the building is now an art center. You can see the downtown area from the school. If you take n35th street going toward the airport [not north 35th street] you'll go by the 3 domes, I suggest you visit them, and further down a couple b locks on the right Leon's Custer stand, it's the best!,just right, not too sweet! brings back memories! Had amotor cycle gang chase us one time in the downtown area,looked pretty rough too! We managed to get away!Lived for awhile in the MARQUETTE university area, in the same building with the students.Thanks for the memories.

    • @maxsmith695
      @maxsmith695 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many of the apts were privately owned so it was a mix of students and older residents. I think Marquette has purchased many of them now.

    Shorewood might be one of the best places to live. Just north of the city border, the suburb has its share of the wealthy, working class and middle class. It is a safe village and it is centrally located. The schools are excellent and there are bus lines along Oakland that take you to downtown if you prefer to not drive. WhiteFish Bay is also very nice, with several parks, great shopping and a desirable central shoreline location. The income level is likely higher in WFB and some might see it as a somewhat more desirable place to live. The schools are some of the best in the state. Fox Point - River Hills - Mequon are mostly professionals and a higher income area.

    I was stationed here working for NW airlines in a downtown office back in 1967-68. I lived in the lower east side just off Ogden near the Layton School of Art. I understand they bulldozed a lot of that 'hood, which was a pity. I loved the old houses and historical feel. Hung out at O'Reilly's Bar, and it got bulldozed, too. I found the people were not friendly, though. Back then, if you didn't go to kindergarten through college together, they didn't trust outsiders. It was 6 months before anyone invited me to their house. Of course, back then, no one moved there from the West coast - it was just the reverse, so they thought I had to have been a narc. I didn't have a car or know my way around, so only knew my little neighborhood. I got a little car sick with the fast motion of this video, but enjoyed it anyway. Where is the third ward? I'd like to go back and get a tour and see what I missed.

      Erik Mickelson No idea what you're talking about. Perhalps people from that generation are like that, but the younger people are very open.

      Jacob - Yes I find the older people (MY age) tend to be a bit sarcastic compared to Chicago, where I'm from. But the younger people don't seem to have that "bite". And the Third Ward is just south of the downtown area and stretches from the Milwaukee River to Lake Michigan. Good restaurants, especially in the Milwaukee Market (check out the sea food restaurant at the east end of the building. They supply fish to many Milwaukee restaurants.)

    How cold does it get in the winter?

    • @MrFademaio
      @MrFademaio 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not too bad because of the Lake effect. It also depends on where you've lived. It gets windy but doesn't experience the teen/arctic temps the way the rest of the upper midwest does.

    I lived in downtown Milwaukee, Cass St. and Kilborne St. in the early 80's and I visited an Antique store in the Historic 3rd Ward when it was a deserted and depressed area. I actually thought it was an interesting area then and LOOK AT IT NOW! Who'd a thought. But glad I left WI.

      It was the warehouse district and a seldom used route to the south side. Mostly it was the area for gay bars, when that lifestyle was mostly underground.

    • @karenperry5342
      @karenperry5342 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maxsmith695 Yes, the warehouse district. And I'd catch the train down there to go to Chicago.

    • @maxsmith695
      @maxsmith695 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@karenperry5342 That is one thing I never thought of, taking the train out of Milwaukee. My friend enrolled in the MBA program at Northwestern and took the train to class. I think it was just 2 or 3 days a week, but that was too much, so he transferred to Marquette. I worked with a guy whose wife was a hair dresser and her co-workers were often gay men. That being the case, the husband would point out the gay bars as we made deliveries around town. They were often businesses with no signs out front. Police would raid them for no reason and the public had no idea. And that was the 1980's.

      @@maxsmith695 Yes, there were just a few bars on the corners but most buildings were completely nondescript and almost scary in that regard!!

    Born & grew up & left MKE @ 22 y.o. Am in my 60s now and have lived all over the world. Cons: Painful childhoods, rigid, ethnic to a fault, racist neighborhoods in the 60s & early 70s. Pros: Great public education through college, the great food. Nope. Cons outweigh the pros...

    • @maxsmith695
      @maxsmith695 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally disagree. Different cultures lived among their own kind, Italians on lower east side, and Jews in Bayside etc... But that is not racist. I worked in the black ghetto for a few years and never heard or witnesses racism of any kind.
      Your childhood or the type of home you grew up in, has no bearing on what kind of city Milwaukee is.
