I grew up in Milwaukee and had to move away for work and sometimes when I'm sad and miss it, I watch this video. It's so well shot and really shows off everything that's great about the city, wish you had included the South Side, and Bay View though. Thank you so much for posting this

yes, incredibly ornate and well preserved- along with City Hall. And the modern stuff is pretty good too- with obviously the Calatrava being the real showstopper.
Grew up lived in Milwaukee till in middle/late 30s. Only missed the Lake till this video. I do have fond memories of downtown as a child... Taking the bus with Mom (she didn't have a license). Going to Woolworths shopping and eating lunch.... BLT or breaded shrimp with fries or and a choc Shake, at the long counter with stools. Shopping for shoes at Tom McCanns. Wish times were that simple again, so inviting and comforting. Anyone else wish we could WILL our way back?!!?

ONLY thing I miss is the Lake. At times it was so blue a beautiful view from up on the hill driving down to the beaches. Ever drive on Beach drive in Fox Point? Street/ road right on Lake with a few houses there. One was an artists home with weird statue art work.
Lots of people do commute from city to city, but no many people work in one city and live in the other. High speed rail was introduced, but the Governor of Wisconsin killed that idea. On the bright side, recently; many groups have been performing studies on how the 2 city will work together in the future. Milwaukee cannot deny Chicago, likewise Chicago can’t ignore a growing city like Milwaukee. So the two cities are now forced to see what a potential future megalopolis will look like.
I know I’m late to your comment, but despite being close as far as cities are concerned, it’s not close enough that people commute from one city to the other. There are plenty of people who work in Illinois and live in Wisconsin, but even then, it’s more often working in Lake County, IL and living in Kenosha County, WI, primarily for lower taxes. People generally move to or around the city where they work and Milwaukee and Chicago are far enough apart that it’s not really reasonable to live in one and work in the other. Is it possible, though? Absolutely. The Hiawatha Service takes people from Milwaukee to Chicago and vice versa, surprisingly quickly. It takes about an hour and a half, which is still a pretty long commute. Amtrak sets it up that it can be used as a commute, but I’m not sure how popular it is for commuters. If you drive, though, it’s going to be a super long commute. I live in a Chicago suburb that is closer to Chicago than it is to Milwaukee (about the same direct distance from Chicago as to Racine), but since Milwaukee is a smaller city than Chicago with less traffic, it actually takes less time to drive to downtown Milwaukee than it does to drive to downtown Chicago. If you’re considering living in one and commuting to the other every day for work, I would highly recommend against it. Occasional travel? Day trips? Of course! It’s actually great to live so close to two cities.

Milwaukee has more churches than any other US city. Steeples as far as the eyes can see. Wonderful architecture for a mid size Midwest city.
