The first button tutorial I've seen that doesn't tie you up in confusion.To make it even easier, the start is a Carrick bend.

One use is in making soft shackles. Tie a diamond knot instead of adding a plastic ball.

With a diamond knot the ends do not go up through the middle but the end finish on the outside untill the last tuck
As I've just explained on a video the problem is this is not a diamond knot but a foot rope knot which is a diamond knot inside out.
