  • Here's how to tie a Diamond Knot, also known as "The Sailor's Knife Lanyard Knot", "Bosun's Whistle Knot, and "Marlingspike Lanyard Knot".
This knot is based on a Carrick Bend and is tied with a single piece of rope. It make a really nice decorative knot at the end of a lanyard loop and can be used for some practical purposes as well.
You can find drawings and a description of this knot in Ashley's Book of Knots, knot number 787 for the single version and 788 for the double version (which this video depicts).
    Enjoy!

If you put a split ring in the loop it can be used for keys, zipper pull, handbag decoration, whatever you think of. Especially if you live in a cold place where you wear gloves they are easier to get hold of than naked little zipper tabs. I'm making a lot of these two-color knots for Christmas tree decorations, party favors, etc. If people don't want the ring they can take it off.

Thank you so much. I had to rewind a lot to get to the little three cross cross circle, but from there on it was easy sailing. That dinosaur growling in the background really was the positive reinforcement I didn’t know I needed

@@selfmadesailor I was watching your videos because I make parrot toys and was looking for some knot and weaving patterns for a new toy design. I run a very small private parrot rescue out of our home. It was hilarious that I inadvertantly happened upon a video who has a parrot. I recognized the noise immediately (I hear Goffins every day) - I had to double check that it was in the video and not here at home. 😂 Anyhow, what a wonderful family member to have and thanks for the instructions!

@@erehberg1 Thank you, Erica! Yes, he's a Goffin, about 22 years old. He can be sweet and antsy within a minute. I seem to be his mother and the first available bite recipient, with the scars to prove it. Angi Malar

The cord looks larger than 550 paracord... What size paracord are you using? Where can I find it? Kenn

This is a foot rope knot which is a diamond knot inside out . if you roll the crown down over the wall you get a diamond knot.

I am a rake beginner. To me this looks very similar to a monkey fist. What's the difference between the two, besides the method to construct them.

That knot on the zipper is also MUCH easier to find than the original zipper tab, something to keep in mind for children and elders.

I gave up on this video because your working end and standing end disappear of the edge of the screen. Also would have been helpful to add the "keys" to keep things in order.

It's important to practice the single diamond knot first, then this will be clear

Start with the single diamond knot first, and learn it well. Then it will be clear
