It really annoys me that fanboys don't seem to be objective in many cases. I think you are doing a real service to the Tesla and EV community by be pragmatic and honest about your experiences. This aids in setting realistic expectations about what to expect when considering an EV and applying consumer focussed pressure onto a company to improve their behaviours and interactions. The quickest way for a company to and grow improve is to listen to the community focussed on your products and incrementally improve where it is feasible to do so. This helps all stakeholders, especially the fan boys! Thank you so much for what you do :)
@RichRebuilds I wish I watched this Playlist earlier. Today is officially ELEVEN DAYS since I ordered my used Tesla Model S. I specifically picked one that was listed as at a local dealer and I am picking it up (so it doesn't even need to be transported further than their storage place because I guess they don't keep them on site?). No idea what the delay is. Once you make payment, they become ghosts. I'm on my 3rd potential delivery date already, all I've been told is that there's been a "logistics delay". I tried to call their call center on Friday and was left on hold soo long the system gave up and just told me to leave a message. This is STRESSFUL. Your videos are the only thing keeping me sane over here. Update: Got a 4th delivery date and NO ONE can explain why. Keep in mind, the car is not being shipped. I specially selected a local car. I have been insuring a vehicle I don't have for almost a month now....

What about placing stainless steel insect mesh in front of the air filter to prevent mice/rats eating it? Love the video, great info. I hope I never have to pull out my battery.
I gotta say, $1800 for all the work that was done is a pretty damned good deal. I honestly thought you were gonna say something like $4500. In the last video, Chad mentioned that the vibration was from the half shafts, and that you'd need new half shafts and a motor mount. What that done here, too? You mentioned the lower control arms, but not the half shafts.
Hey Rich, great video as always. I have a suggestion for the mechanical brake corrosion issue. How about suggesting to TESLA to create a API to have the cars computer set a interval of using the mechanical brakes once in a while so that they get hot enough to keep from corroding from lack of use? The API can be either set on a schedule or selected by the owner to perform the action which would show up on the screen as such. Just a thought. Stay safe!
Hey Uncle Rich, my lease is nearing its end on my gas car and I’ve been watching the prices of Early Model S’ dip lower and lower as the days pass. My question is should that be something to consider for my first EV to be used as a Daily Driver and if I decide to go that route what are some things I can expect from a Model S with 70K+ miles on the dash? Thanks in advance if you can provide some insight!
I’ve been following you since the first episode of the Delores rebuild. Your humor always makes my day I thank you for all the laughs man keep up the great work!
My dad taught me that you have to use the brakes on the car from time to time, otherwise they will corrode and be less efficient. I would often engine break in a lower gear on a normal car in order to not brake, but not using the brakes makes them corrode like he shows in the video. Because Tesla's car all have built in engine breaking when you let go off the accelerator, lots of energy is conserved back into the car, but at 3000 miles a brake pad starts rusting "naturally". I've been looking to get the X, but now I need after market brakes so it doesn't rust. Perhaps the brake pads is the next upgrade for factory teslas.
*Bright ideas:* 1. Build yourself YOUR OWN FAST CHARGER. Hack it. SELL THEM. 2. Build yourself a REMOTE CHARGER COUPLER, so that you can use two remote chargers at the same time. You'll have to hack them. SELL THEM.
main reason the filter is glued - its a hepa filter, so for bioweapon defense mode to work the filter has to be glued and sealed in place. of course, that doesnt matter if the filter has been consumed by a small mammal.
The reason for the filter being glued is to prevent (whatever minuscule) airflow from passing between the filter and the filter housing. By installing the blue filter loose you’ve eliminated the biohazard feature. I’m not sure it’s even a HEPA system anymore.
Saying that a car doesnt need service is like saying that a car doesnt need gas/electricity. Just because you dont WANT to service your car doesnt mean you shouldnt. Everything degrades, thats just a fact of matter.
I just checked, they sell those filters for $500. I don't think I ever paid more than $20 for a cabin filter for any of my cars. Hell, I don't pay more than $300-400 for annual service which includes replacing ALL the filters and fluids. That's just crazy! Tesla is like an automotive Apple.
