Each series fits together in the same timeline with references, hints, or expanded tellings of events that occur in the timline of the franchise. I would go in watch order with Index 1, then Railgun 1, after that you get a good grasp of the Science and Magic sides also in timeline order Railgun starts before Index. After you finish the first seasons of both go with Railgun S. You get the complete rundown of why Touma (MC of Index) and Mikoto (MC of Railgun) know each other and Railgun S expands of a certain event that takes place in Index S1 which evolves Mikoto. Also S might be the best adaptation. Accelerator season 1 would be next and takes place after season one of Index. Jump into Index 2 with Railgun T following. First half of Railgun T and the first half of Index 2 occur at the same time with more events expanded out in T. The next half of Railgun T comes in timeline wise in between in end of Index 2 and 3 with some characters being in both second half T and in Accelerator. The Index movie could slide next into watch order followed by the third season of Index finishing off the first main series of arcs in the light novel franchise covering the first 22 novels with all of these shows. There is a following 22 lights novels which follows next called A Certain Magical Index: New Testament and after that the next series of Index novels which follow and are coming out in Japan called A Certain Magical Index: Genesis which as 2 so far out to date. This beloved franchise has been around since 2004 with the first light novel and is Japan's best selling light novel franchise with over 80 million sold worldwide. Touma and Mikoto are always in the top light novel character polls. Which Mikoto is called the light novel Queen with her popularity in Japan being #1 except with 2 years since 04'. If you stick all the way though you'll be satisfied and hoping for more.

I seen all of the "A Certain Series". All the shows are connected. Each show explains a different part of the world. Index focuses on Magic, Railgun focuses Science. Railgun does a lot of world and character building for each main character of each show. Accelerator more likely shows the dark side of the world. I recommend watching Railgun s1 or Index s1 first, then Railgun S, Index s2, then next Index s3 and finally Accelerator. Trust me you want to watch both seasons 1 and 2 of both Railgun and Index to build up hype for Index 3. The wait was worth it for me. Watch Railgun T last, because its still new.

When you spoke about the show, wondering how all the pieces fit together and thinking about what you like in it etc, I can say that this series ticks all your boxes. Everyone else already explained how the shows intertwine with eachother, but I can perhaps expand on it by saying that there is a definite reason for everything that exists in the world of this series. Nothing is left up to chance, and the lore goes very deep and complex - but that said it's still easy to follow. That's why the show is so good, it balances complexity of the world and character interactions with a relatively easy-to-follow plot and storyline. Very few anime makes this amount of complexity so easy to handle, credit going to the writer(s?).
I think you will both find many elements you like in this series, and it doesn't really matter that much which one you start with, and you can easily take breaks if you want. Technically Index is the chronological start, but you can also start with Railgun if you like and hardly lose any context. Each series does a great job of picking up the pieces and make everything understandable even for new viewers.
Also Railgun series is straight up fire, with many really great moments and a great storyline.

The Toaru series is incredibly popular. There's over 100 volumes of the light novel and spinoff mangas. It's won best light novel of the year like 7 times. Mikoto misaka (the main character in railgun) is especially popular. China's version of TH-cam is named after her. Many of the features on the website are references to the series and they even celebrate her birthday every year. Also there's an Overwatch league team named after her and they recently admitted her as an honorary member. She's also in the finals for best girl of the decade for 2010-2019

27:44 definitely, you can watch it however you want since they are concurrent series that mostly cover different stuff. You can watch Railgun season 1, then Index seasons 1-3, then go back to Railgun, or begin with Index and then do Accelerator, or watch Railgun standalone, and so on. So you can juggle them as you please, just make sure not to begin with Accelerator not watch it before Index season 1.

I was waiting for this one to happen eventually. The fist couple seasons haven't aged particularly well (mostly because they are a decade old and date to when all the classic anime tropes were in full swing, but it does get toned down eventually), but I still love this series and the OPs are all pretty solid. Index, Railgun and Accelerator all happen around the same time frame and even overlap on some occasions, so it's really cool when you see the same events from a different perspective with added details. It's a daunting franchise to get into, but I do recommend checking it out (Especially Railgun, as season 3 (or RailgunT(hird) is especially good rn).
Index and Accelerator (best character in the series imo) have their strong points too, but If you only want to check out Railgun, you can just go that route (however, you will miss one or two minor details from when they overlap in Index). Here is the simplified recommended chronological order (trust me, it can get complicated):
    1. Railgun
    2. Index 1 and Railgun S (these two basically happen at the same time, but Railgun takes the best arc of the series and makes it better)
    3. Accelerator
    4. Index 2 (I also believe the movie takes place directly after)
    5. Railgun T (currently airing)
    6. Index 3
Apologies for the wall of text. I recommend just watching by yourselves, but your choice. Loved the reactions btw, especially to Index 3 op 2.

Though I absolutely love the Index series, it's unfortunate how JC Staff didn't handle it's adaptation as great as Railgun or Accelerator, but part of the reason stems from the fact that it's much easier to adapt Manga than Light Novels; the whole series is great and one of my favorites, consider checking out the Light Novel if you're interested

The main series is Light Novel based, so arcs are relatively short with plenty of spaces for breaks. Railgun and Accelerator are more half-season long arcs and aren't as friendly to it.
This is actually a rare case where I'd suggest watching in semi-chronological order, starting with Railgun Season 1, listed arc-to-arc instead of episode-to-episode. I can provide a more detailed watchlist if you want.

The To Aru series[A Certain _____ series]is reaaaally good. The best way to explain it is its all about the different moving parts. With 3 different series made to play off each other there are plot points that end up being massively relevant to essentially the entire franchise as a whole and when you have those points where you can see the framework put in place it feels absolutely amazing. Somehow it feels distinctly 2010s era of anime even in the newer installments but it was very much ahead of its time. Honestly I cant recommend enough people to try To Aru

    -Index is the main series
-Railgun is a sort of retelling from Mikoto's perspective (I personally recommend starting with railgun because it gives you more context while index jumps into things without you knowing what's going on most of the time)
-Accelerator... let's just say that it was necessary for him to get his own series for a reason 😈
My personal favorite ops are Accelerator and Railgun T. But I have a feeling that might change when I get to index s3 (i saw y'alls reactions but skipped when you got to the ops for Index 3 so I wouldn't spoil myself lol.

Alright! First of all, a warm welcome to Index. it's a wild ride! Now, if you may be doing this in the future, gotta pick which order to do it. Oh boy, let's go kk XD
To put it simply, there are essentially two ways to watch the series: broadcast order or chronological order.
*Broadcast order* is the way most people did, because they watched as the shows were released. But, as someone coming into the series right now, there's an opportunity to do it in *chronological order* , which is arguably the way you can get the most out of the show since you won't get spoiled by events from one season that were more deeply shown/developed in a later season. And by that, *I mean especially Railgun S (second season of Railgun)* . Just for that, I highly recommend watching Railgun and Railgun S first.
But, of course, both ways are great. In the end, it's really a matter of preference \o/
You can find the order by searching for something like "how to watch magical index series".
A quick disclaimer, I'm not talking about the *true chronological order* . That actually hops between series in the middle of the seasons, since the series mostly happen in parallel. I don't think anyone would watch it in that order unless they are either rewatching or doing some sort of challenge.

In short Toaru Index is the main story, Railgun and Accelerator are side stories, they happen in a certain timeline in which some events happen at the same, but in a more in depth in terms of the timeline(story arcs) the order of the episode in terms of the timeline of the series is:
-Toaru Kagaku no Railgun ep 1-14
    -Toaru Kagaku no Railgun OVA
-Toaru Majutsu no Index ep 1-6
-Toaru Kagaku no Railgun ep 15-16
-Toaru Majutsu no Index ep 7-9
-Toaru Kagaku no Railgun ep 17-24
This arc is where the story happens at the same time
-Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S ep 1-9
-Toaru Majutsu no Index ep 10-14 and -Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S ep 10-16 happen at the same time, same event just different point of view
And this other one happens at the same date but don't interact with each other
-Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S ep 17-24
-Toaru Majutsu no Index ep 15-17
-Toaru Majutsu no Index ep 18-24 and Episode 1 of Index II
-Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator ep 1-12
-Toaru Majutsu no Index II 2-7
And if season 2 of Accelerator happens that would place it between 5 and 6 of Index II
-Toaru Majutsu no Index Movie - Miracle of Endymion
then the whole Daihasei Festival Arc happens
    -Railgun T Episode 1
Index II - 8-13, Railgun T Episode 2 happens at the same time as episode 8 of Index II and Railgun T Episode 3 happens at the same time as episode 10 of Index II
    -Railgun T ep 4-15
    -Index II ep 14-16
After that we have the yet to be air last 10 episodes of Railgun T which also happen in between the next Index II and Index III series
    -Railgun T ep 16-18
    -Index II ep 17-24
    -Railgun T ep 19-20
    -Index III ep 1-9
    -Railgun T ep 21-25
-the rest of Index III 10-24
if they were to make a 4th season for Railgun that one would be placed between episode 9 and 10 of Index III too and if there is a 2nd season of Accelerator that one would happen before episode 6 of Index II

Basically, Toaru Index follows the story of Kamijou Touma (the main male protagonist). The story revolves around his involvement with Index (the little nun girl) that links to the European Magecraft and Churches.
While Toaru Railgun follows the story of Misaka Mikoto (the main female protagonist). The story revolves around Academy City (the city they lives in), revolving around the dark secret behind the city.
The two story are separate yet follows the same timeline, Index focuses outside of the city while Railgun stays inside the city.
The two story also intertwine with each other at several points, pointing in some clues for each other's storyline.
long story short : its about magic vs technology.

The light novels and Railgun manga are extremely popular and kept the pressure of that third Index and Railgun season being made. It was always one of the top torrented series back in the day waiting to be released in North America. Also it was airing originally during the time Geneon Entertainment of America was going bankrupt in the late 2000's which would have been the company that would have first dibbs on it bringing it over, so Funimation stepping up and licensing the first season caused a rescue of the Geneon titles being brought over to the US. Unlike Index, Railgun doesn't even have an overlapping story.

      good take
mine is railgun can only sprint because index paved the track while building the city , and the city is grand and amazing, but adapted poorly ,

True. Index has a lot of explanations and inner monologue that is omitted in the anime which is a shame because those things make it really clear that the protagonist is way out of his league in most fights.

ok so this is one of my favorite anime franchises, just because following different characters in the same setting then watching as they cross over in great and the stories themselves are really good... so if your planning to watch it, either by reacting or on your own, here is a watch list I made when I recommended it to my friend.
It’s made out of 3 shows:
A certain magical index (Genres: Action, Superpowers, Supernatural, Harem, Comedy)
A certain scientific railgun (Genres: Action, Slice of life, Moe, Superpower, Comedy)
A certain scientific accelerator (Genres: Action, Superpower, Supernatural, Comedy)
    • A certain magical index season 1 episodes 1-9
    • A certain scientific railgun all of season 1
    • A certain scientific railgun season 2 episodes 1-16
    • A certain magical index season 1 episodes 15-20 (don’t watch episodes 10-14 of season 1)
    • (Now you can watch A certain scientific accelerator season 1 here but there are also 2 other places you can choose to watch it, you choose)
    • A certain magical index season 1 episodes 21-24
    • A certain scientific railgun season 2 episodes 17-24
    • A certain magical index season 2 episode 1-13
    • A certain scientific railgun season 3 episode 1-15
    • A certain scientific railgun season 3 episode 16-25
    • A certain magical index season 2 episode 14-24
    • (Now you can watch A certain scientific accelerator season 1 here but there is also 1 other place you can choose to watch it, you choose)
    • A certain magical index all of season 3
    • (Now you can watch A certain scientific accelerator season 1 here, you choose)
There you go, this is only how I would place the events and is mostly in chronological order, Mostly though... while Railgun season 1 takes place first in the timeline I think starting with the first Arc of Index feels right as a start.. also i love the clone arc and railgun adapted it better so that's why you don't watch 10-14 of season 1 of Index or at the least don't watch episodes 10-14 until after seeing railgun season 2 episodes 1-16 trust me its better when you don't know the resolution. but yeah that's all :)

Index is the anime adaptation of Light Novels
Railgun and Accelerator are based off Manga spin-offs that take place alongside the novels.

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again: for the best introduction to the story, world and characters, watch Railgun and Railgun S first if you do decide to start watching. One of the best arcs of the series at the beginning of Railgun S has a 10x better emotional impact if you do that. I’m glad you liked what you saw! Hope to see more from you guys

I have to say, Toaru series is not easy to watch.. Especially the magical side.. The plot and references used is vast.. From Religion to Science.. It's not your normal anime with the protagonist having a character development growing stronger and following a simple plot..
Index 3 actually has 3 protagonist... Touma is the MC.. But you can't erase Accelerator and Hamazura by how many screentime they get.

A Certain Magical Index III took several years to come out, and when it did, it was incredibly rushed. Fans were understandably upset.
There are many characters in this series that have unique abilities. Accelerator's ability is reflection. For instance, if you try to shoot him, he can send that bullet right back at you with as much force as he's calculated.

    • @elainasynranelt
      @elainasynranelt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s completely incorrect lmao
Accelerator’s ability is Vector Manipulation, he can change the vectors of objects he’s in contact with, which includes direction, speed, gravitational constant, etc

The timelines for these 3 series run parallel to each other (it focus on different characters in different series - Mikoto Misaka in Railgun, Touma Kamijou in Index, Accelerator in Accelerator) and you can see what they are doing whilst all of the action/ other stuff is happening with other characters). You can look up the correct order to watch the episodes from the different series online as you can end up watching ep 1 and 2 from Index, then ep 1 - 4 from Railgun, then back to Index etc. in order to see what the different characters are doing within the same universe. If you look out for background images such as news coverage in the different seasons it may inform you of something that has happened which was only followed by a different character in one of the other series... e.g. if there was an explosion for whatever reason and in had to do with Mikoto Misaka (Railgun), you may see a reporter in the background (no sound usually) reporting on this. These are little things you can easily miss on the first viewing.

Accelerator was the villain of part 2 of season one of magical index and part one of season 2 of Railgun, which takes place at the same time. Railgun T takes place the same time as part one of season 2 of Magical index. Accelerators series takes place at some point after season one of magical index but not sure when.

The Accelerator guy starts out as a villain but develops into more of an anti-hero as the series progresses.

I would recommend watching railgun and railgun S first for emotional value of the masterpiece that is railgun s and then watch index 1 and 2.
