Hiya. How are you? I wanted to speak to you guys and seek advice re being a clinical nurse specialist. I'm currently working as an Band -5 Occupational Health Nurse at Barts NHS Trust. I've been working there for three years and I want to start an new path beyond OH. I'm thinking of Tissue Viability (as i have previous experience in Community three years ago) and Infection Prevention Control Nurse as we are dealing with viruses and vaccinations. I'd like to pick your brains re those two and if you have any other advice for me moving forward past being an OH nurse. Many Thanks.

@imonewiththeforce316, thanks for watching my video and your question:All the options you have mentioned are great CNS roles. There are developmental opportunities in Occupational health if you enjoy what you do then you can discuss the option of doing the one year Occupational health Nurse course in your Appraisal for support in funding for the course, on completion you can apply for a band 6 role or you can self-fund an d move to the private sector for example Transportfor London and other industries. If you would like to move out of Occupational health, then Tissue viability or infection control Nurse specialists roles are great too and your knowledge base from Occupational will help. The first step will be to look on the NHS job site, look at the job descriptions of Tissue viability Nurse Specialist and Infection prevention and control nurse , look at the person specification of both and see which relates to your current skills , knowledge and experience to help you decide
You will not go wrong with any of them. Feel free to email me via rasekyere@gmail.com if you have further questions. Best wishes

@@Beckysekyere Many Thanks for thee quick response. I've never considered TFL or other industries as I would like to stick with the NHS for now.
Going for an OH course at my Trust is a no-go as the Trust can't help us with funds. Self-funding is also not an option for me as my savings is going elsewhere. And currently there is no Band-6 vacancy at OH. And i would like to move away from OH now. I want to have my own clinic and being my own boss and not having to "micro manage" junior staff.
I'm also thinking of maybe Immunization or Vaccination Nurse or an OH nurse advisor or a mixed of both. But i don't know if a job exists.
I could contact the TVN or IPC team in my Trust to get a big picture of what they do and what advice they could give me.

@imonewiththeforce316 ,You are welcome. I agree, most Trust are low on funding for courses these days. There are out of hours nurse jobs or NHS 111, yiu can consider General Practice Nurse jobs. Speaking to the infection prevention team is a good start, if you are willing to move out of London, you can have a look on the NHS jobs website too. Most often you don't need experience in the specialty to apply for the job, so far as you are able to show your transferable skills and willingness to learn. You will learn or train on job.

@imonewiththeforce316 , I see, Have a chat to both th TV team and IP Teams and that will help you decide which of the options to persue. I have moved a few times from Haemoglobinopathy Nurse Specialist to Epilepsy, back to Haemoglobinopathy and now Headache Nurse Specialist so feel free to try a few options. You can always move.
