@@pachecoeverafter6178all you need to know is that the 20gb and 60gb PS3 was made for the first 10 or so months of the lifespan of the system. As someone already said the latest this should have been was 1.70. Anything beyond 20 or 60 sealed should still have a contemporary FW version of 1.70 or below and you can check the model number and the update release dates to see if it's in the ballpark of where it should be. If it's a later model, there are charts you can find. If you want, you can downgrade to the minimum firmware it came with from the factory. The only good reason why it'd be like this is if it came from Japan since they usually open new stuff and test it since they don't have seal stickers. However, this one seems American. Btw I'd replace the thermal paste and CFW it so you can at the very least use WebMAN to adjust the fans to keep the RSX at 63C so you can keep it running for as long as possible. Sorry about this one, bro. You'll get a good one one day.
I’m still rocking my ps3 it’s not backwards compatible but i still love it and use it everyday. Things don’t become obsolete just because something else is “ better” they become obsolete because we lose value to them . There’s so many electronics out there that deserve the love and appreciation, ps3 is one of them and I love mine a lot
I actually want to go for a PlayStation collection, from having a PS4 and PS5 in both my living room and bedroom eventually to having a PS3 in the living room too at my home. It never hurts having variety as far as stuff to do whenever you live by yourself.
I still have a backwards compatible PS3 as well which is the 60 GB original launch model. I ordered it off of Amazon back in 2018 since I've had it now for four years already, and so far it still works fine too which is really great since I haven't had the YLOD or anything on it yet. I still really miss the PS2 backwards compatibility feature though on the PS3 and I wish Sony would have kept that feature for all models of the PS3 even though every model of the PS3 is still backwards compatible with PS1 games anyway. I also personally like when PS2 games are being played on the PS3 better since they seem to play somewhat better on the PS3 than they did on the PS2, especially since the PS3 also supports HDMI and the graphics in the games seem a lot better when the PS3 is connected to the TV via HDMI which helps upscale the graphics that way. I also wish the PS4 and PS5 consoles would have been fully backwards compatible too even though the PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 games which is at least better than nothing, especially since the PS4 didn't even have native backwards compatibility at all.
Well, I know the advantages of using the PS3's Backwards Compatibility on a HDMI TV BUT, I really prefer using the PS3 on a CRT TV (480i, Component Cable). PSOne and PS3 looks WONDERFUL and better on the CRT TV (Component Cable) than on any other HDTV or 4K TV I own. Unfortunately, I haven't checked PS2 games on PS3 but at least on PS2, they look also GREAT on the CRT TV (480i, Component). Of course, the BEST of EVERYTHING must be a HD CRT TV. I had the opportunity to check Xbox Games on a PC Monitor (2004, more or less) and I haven't seen any more AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL yet. More PS2 Games are 480i but I guess they should look great, too.

I got mine for free from my grandma, it belonged to one of my great uncles who passed a few years ago, and she couldn't get it to turn on because the power button plastic wasnt clipped in. had it for about 2 years now

Sony was so creative back then, now all they care about is their pockets, what's preventing them from adding ps2 compatibility in modern consoles, I mean normal pcs can emulate ps2 games at x8 the native resolution, you're telling me they can't add that to powerful consoles like ps5, the greed is killing the gaming industry nowadays

I got my 60gb ps3 in 2006 and I haven't updated my 60gb ps3 since 2009. My ps3 still works to this day with its original box.
