The leather was used in WWI "Around 1913 Horween Leather Company in Chicago needed to diversify their product offerings and developed Chromexcel for mechanical uses. One of the main uses for Chromexcel at the time was for use in motor seals and gaskets. With world war 1 starting just after the leather was developed in 1914, Chromexcel became heavily used in the war effort. A lot of Chromexcel was made for motor seals in large trucks and even tanks. A leather seal is preferred by highly-experienced mechanics and engineers because the seal slowly breaks over time. An operator can actually hear the seal failing slowly which them a heads up that it is time to replace the seal . Whereas a synthetic seal fails immediately and completely leaving the operator without notice."
I have both Wolverine 1K miles and Thursday Boots, so I can compare them. First of all, my Wolverines (bought in Norway) came with Vibram rubber both front and back, so that was nice. I must say, I prefer the 1K’s, as the TB’s kinda feels like toy boots in comparison. I just like the feeling of heft, and the 1K’s ooze no nonsense and simple construction. The TB’s had much shorter (/non-existent) break in and has softer leather and footbed. The softer (and thinner) leather makes it feel a lot less rugged, though. They are also Made in Mexico, for what it’s worth. In my mind, it’s sort of like raw denim vs stretch denim -both has its pros and cons, and let’s not forget the price difference. Overall I’m happy with both, and rotate between my brown Wolverines and black Thursdays. 🙂 Oh, and thanks for another good video, Mr. Snail!
Hey! Love all your videos! What jeans are you wearing here? I love them too! Thanks Mikey keep up the awesome work. Also the adolescent banter is ….? I just love it lol ✌️
The boots look good. The laces don't. I have Iron Rangers but would consider these too. Or the Blacksmiths but they are so similar.. choices choices eh? Thanks for the videos!
Luck of the draw with that loose grain. Maybe try a commando lug sole when/if you do resole em. I've never owned those but Horween leather plus the construction makes em solid. Try some Truman boots. They have pretty unique leather selections. I also hope you do get a pair of shell cordovan boots someday. I know you'll love em.
@@TheIronSnail you won't be disappointed. I've got the higgins mill from Allen Edmonds, they are the most comfortable boot I own. They won't crease either. By the way your videos are awesome. Keep up the good work.
Hi there, love the video, you made fantastic looking boots look even better, love those laces! I have the same boots and will do the same thing and get those same laces.
I bought a Schott pink leather jacket my last time in NYC, I love that thing. So I can understand why you are upset with yourself for selling yours. Maybe get Topy(sp) on the soles, it will save the the leather soles. 😊🇨🇦
The Iron Snail looking forward to it! I just got my first pair of heavyweights in the elephant 9 21oz by N&F. They’re like a prison for my lower body and I love it.
Great video. :) You should review Redwing Blacksmiths sometime! I'm considering getting a pair, but I'm curious how you think they compare to the Wolverine 1000 Miles. P.S: If you like this comment I'll name my firstborn after you. (The Iron Snail, not Mike)
I plan on reviewing those eventually! Also incredible, iron snails also collect iron off the ocean floor and cover themselves in it so you need to teach them how to do that for the name to truly resonate
Avoid Wolverine boots. Horrible customer service and misleading information regarding returns. Their website states free returns but they don't mention anywhere that the original shipping charge is not refunded. Lesson learned for $8, never dealing with that company again.
Narcissism much? How about less annoying adolescent banter, extreme closeups of your face, irrelevant comments about yourself, and more about the boots? Barf

Ahhh INTERESTING points, good to know! Gonna pin this too! Also the snail thanks you!
This guy, is my favorite.
God I love your video style, man. Keep up the good work.
THANKS!
I have these and the Thursday boots. I love both . I also like my black Tim's. Good video .
I’m addicted to these videos
That’s a top tier compliment!
These look sooooooo much better than those blundstones that you’re in love with.
thorogood boots are a slept on brand, get wide ee and your normal size as they run really narrow
Deal!
No they are not. Maybe you were sleeping on them but that’s just you.
I love you videos that’s great rewatch value and so binge worthy
like ur vids bro.. simple guy simple review
I am king simp!
Nice color, well worn in. That's the equivalent of my Redwings 8111. Robust, sturdy, dressy. Better go for Vibram soles...

Hey thanks! These are Naked and Famous elephant 7’s!
Hilarious and informative video!! Keep it up, your video style is awesome.

The only thing I hate about work boots is when they come with unmatching laces. Always have to change them
Agreeeed takes away from the looks so much
Good looking boots but I’ve always felt these were inferior to Red Wing in terms of quality.
I’ve heard that too before!
LOLLLL @ the end. You don't want her to do what with the zucchini huh Michael???????????
Gangsta beats!
Thank you THANK YOU
On the WW2 tanks or the Tanker boots?
lmao absolute madman he almost killed his friend on the slide
Gotham needed him to go
It's not just a first boot. I bought 6 pairs.
I guess you know they have rubber on the bottoms now .
Hi. Do they run true to size? Thank You
Is that a new jean break in project I see?
Oh yes INDEED! Although I’m doing a really fun before this that I’m so excited about
The Iron Snail looking forward to it! I just got my first pair of heavyweights in the elephant 9 21oz by N&F. They’re like a prison for my lower body and I love it.
I’m breaking in some 21oz rn 🤫
Watch through to the end... you won’t regret hearing about the Air B&B lol.
Bahahah
Gotta admit it would be hard to compete with a mutated zucchini.
I got an idea. Try using leather conditioner on the laces that will in my opinion change to darker brown colour.
Me thinks.
:)
A perfect idea!
Me thinks
Lol did she leave you for the zucchini!?
I can neither confirm or deny
I was supposed to be asleep hours ago
1000 mile boots look rugged. Best look with heavy indigo jeans.
Thursday somewhat a different look. Not as rugged.
Me thinks!
:)
Me thinks too!
You had a Schott?!?
What jacket are you wearing sir?
A Tanuki type II in double indigo!

In my view the laces wrong colour. Brown colour, me thinks.
:)
Yeah tbh I can kinda see that too! I was of the mindset that hopefully they’ll darken nicely so it won’t be as loud :)
what's size of your Tanuki jacket and what is your height and weight? I'm gonna buy some Tanuki jacket (in Jurai denim I guess) so just for reference
I’m 5’9” and 155lbs and I wear a 38!! Moderately slim fit id say true to size unless you want to layer a bit more then size up one
@@TheIronSnail I see. Thanks from Ukraine! nice videos.
Waiting for review your Tanuki jacket, hope it will be soon
It will be, just fading a bit more first!! Also greetings Ukraine!
Whats the jacket this video man?
Tanuki double indigo type II ! Incredible jacket
Thanks man, wet jacket as usual, keep it up man!
Ty! Plenty of soaked jackets to come!!
Wet as in dope as usual, but dam man you're gonna keep blowing up, bought a few you recommended already, they're gems thanks
Hahaha I know i was just joking don’t worry, also hell yeah! What did you end up getting?
Who's Maverick?
Maverick is a legend in these parts

And the materials inside suck
They told me I had to pay shipping costs up front
Size 8? Small feet.
They run 1/2-full size big
You may have copied his video production style perfectly but you'll never match the charisma or looks of the Wool and Lanolin guy.
Damnit! He had a certain charm i can’t replicate, i am no match
Dude. Stop playin. Make more videos wtf. You could go far with this forreal.
Appreciate that so much! Shooting for one a week
Narcissism much? How about less annoying adolescent banter, extreme closeups of your face, irrelevant comments about yourself, and more about the boots? Barf
Yikes
You can glue a vibram rubber soles (ask a cobbler) , without having to resole.
Thinking I’ll do just that!
