Hey Brandon, Henry Cavill said he reads your books and loves them. Who would you cast him as in a Cosmere movie? I was thinking he would be a great Lightsong.
@@jamal8757 I think it's really important to cast accurate POC if there is a Stormlight live action adaptation. The different cultures and races are relevant to the story and Stormlight has an important place in fantasy in transition out of the traditional European male protagonists.
The point about people not knowing how much things sell reminds me of an acquaintance of mine from university who asked me if I knew who Brandon was, and said he'd be "the next big thing in fantasy" in, like, January of this year. Congrats on being such a plucky up-and-comer, Mr. Sanderson; eager to see what you do next!
The performing introvert was something I was shocked by myself when I heard it. It was so true to what I had felt so often. Singing in front of people; cool and exciting. Small talking; tiring and stressful.
Same for me, Mario! I can sing in front of an audience, do improv, acting, whatever! But small talk? Meeting new people. It makes my stomach turn just thinking about it!
I'd guess that it's because introverts are inclined towards exploring that inner world. Most of an actor's job isn't gladhanding the fans; it's *thinking* about the role they're going to play. Small talk isn't a forced behavior; it's default for extroverts. I would go so far as to say most introverts are putting on a performance, much of the time. That's the entire reason they're exhausted by it: it's *work* and they have to put *effort* into it, so of course they need downtime from it, like any job. If it happens to pay, as well, that's basically a bonus.
"Tune in last time" That was great at the end; listened to both! You both continue to amaze me with your natural flow of conversation, humorous inclusions, and engaging topics. Keep up the great work!
With the voice actor thing, you're definitely on the money. But I watch a lot of anime and can recognize someone's voice across a lot of the anime, and I've watched interviews with them etc. When I went to Comic Con this year I was surprised that the voice actors from My Hero Academia had so little people in their lines, but I realized (like you both mentioned) that it's a recognizability thing. You may recognize the voice, but you don't see their faces so it's hard to know who's who.
I got to have dinner with Brandon right before the corona started and he signed my book in like 10 different styles so I could have one as a tattoo. It is my most prized possession

I'm fully aware of the one-sided nature of learning about well-known figures through their public personas, and yet every time I watch Brandon chat with his friends, it makes me want to read his books all over again. His professionalism, courtesy, and curiosity are such winning traits. We are lucky he has chosen to share his talents with us. there could be 2 reasons for them wanting to have dinner meetings with Brandon. either they are geeking out in the same way other creators of media are (especially since its the source for their media) or they could be trying to ingratiate themselves so they can so they can have you as a business connection or to more easily get a deal they want on works.

On the topic of introverted actors...I'm an introverted theater kid. I'm a stereotypical introvert in so many ways: I love reading, being alone, etc. But I also LOVE acting and being on stage. Just this last summer, I played a very extroverted character in a play, and it was great. It's weird how I can pretend to be an extrovert in front of like 150 people and have have a blast, but when I need to be extroverted more one on one, I freak out and communicate in single syllables.
I loved "Tune in last time..." Funny this is ep 27 is the first one Ive seen and loved it! This one was good too... Came here via the youtube algorithm after watching WOT and youtube reviews...
One of the best things that came out of the convention was meeting Dan Wells. Binged the entire John Cleaver series on audible the week after. What a ride that series was. An instant all-time favorite.
17:30 funny things is that in Brazil voice acting is something very celebrated. Several of them are huge here and even are recognized with frequency. Authors the situation is different..
Okay, now I have to tell my favorite long joke. Except that it's way to long for a comment, so rather than actually telling it I'll just explain it, so as to not set a record for the longest TH-cam comment ever. It's about a guy with a friend named Joe, and Joe seems to know everyone else that they meet. The guy remarks on this, and Joe claims that he actually is friends with everyone. The guy doesn't believe this, and begins testing him with progressively more famous people and each time it turns out that they actually do know Joe. The punch line comes when they fly to Rome to see the pope and are just in the crowd when the pope comes out to bless the people in the courtyard below, sees Joe, and invites him up so that they can catch up. When Joe gets back down to his (other) friend he finds him passed out on the ground. After reviving him Joe asks him what happened, and he goes through the whole list of people that Joe has proven that he is friends with, expressing his increasing surprise at each, all the way up to the pope, and finishes with "But when a man asked me, 'who's that guy up on the balcony talking to Joe ...'"
I could see him being involved in a producer capacity. JJ Abrams is like a serial producer. Of so many things of such varying qualities and styles that it's practically impossible to predict what kind of thing he'll produce next.
15:00 the difference between being an introvert and an extrovert is the environments that recharge your internal battery, and which drains it. My brother must be with people for some time or he goes crazy. I go crazy if I am with people for too much time without being alone. We are both very personable people and get along fine with people, but he is an extrovert and I am an introvert. You can only tell several hours into a party
I think a reason why less people read a book than watch a movie is because it is a far larger commitment of time and effort. It takes at least days, probably weeks to read one of Brandon's books, it takes way less to go to the cinema, much less start a series on Netflix
As an artist and aspiring writer, I never even considered the ramifications of fame and how it affects privacy. I’m pretty naive. I just assumed people were chill and that it wasn’t so cutthroat or troubling.

Mostly other novels and short stories, but I also find all their interviews and podcasts on TH-cam. I don't tend to follow them on social media. I don't know what Stephen King tweets for example. But I have seen just about all his interviews if they were uploaded on TH-cam to the point I know some of the go-to stories and answers he uses time after time almost by heart. I know what King will say if someone asks where he gets his ideas, or what he was like as a child. I know what Brandon will say if someone asks him how he got started or how he got into fantasy. The Mrs. Reader story. So on and so forth. Then again, I also am really obsessive with things I like. Meaning.. once I like something I want more and more and more of it. Of course, with authors it may be a bit different for me. I also want to be an author. I shared a tattoo chair next to Anthony Bourdain (Rest In Peace) for several hours and said nothing but "Hello, Welcome.", because it wasn't a space for bugging people about their celebrity.
A lot of TH-camrs that write books are people pushed by someone they employ to write a book. I wouldn’t really consider any TH-camrs who’s written a novel just because someone told them to an author though. Also I’d read a cookbook made by authors on what they think their in world fictional foods approximate in real life is. Sorta like how Bethesda released a cookbook on Elder Scrolls food iirc.
