Can't wait to play this one. Finding a locked off dungeon door in a secret underwater alcove in the demo left me intrigued after I spent 30 minutes trying to break into the darn place (but couldn't).
I have never played such a generous game, Dragon Quest Builders 2 is so big and fun and so much things to do, it is a Minecraft replica, it is a farm simulator, it is a JRPG, it is an adveture, it is a monster collecting game, it is brilliant and it is my most played game on the Switch. I regret not buying it for PS4 , I wanted the Platinum.
I've been dying for the reviews! First time commenting but I started to adore your channel since Ircha gaming started to talk about it all the time! Been lurking here for almost 2 years! I preordered the game and I REALLY hope it gets here in the weekend not on Monday!
I love the way Kim gets into games because it reminds me of how I got into games when I was a kid. I just don't experience them that way anymore and it makes me sad. I guess I'm just too jaded and cynical. I wish I could get back into that headspace one day.
Dragon Quest Builders was actually my first Dragon Quest game of any type and I loved it. I sunk in over 115 hours into the first one and loved every minute. Since then, I played Dragon Quest XI which blew me away and I bought some of the DS and 3DS games to try. It was a gateway drug for me haha. I pre-ordered this game as soon as it was announced and I have been really hyped for it. On a side note, I'm so happy Square Enix recognizes your passion for their games and sent you a review copy. It's also amazing Kim got to share it with you.
Happy to hear Kim loved it as now means my wife will adore it as well as we both have been waiting for her review along with your thoughts as well Johnny so we appreciated seeing this in our feed in the morning. Thank you both so much for discussing the game in such depth. all the best you two. :)
I can't wait to buy the second. And I have the orange plush slime I ordered from Japan in 2004. And I'm glad you can go in the water and build on top of that. The first one bothered me how you would die if you went in the water.
I even got a Dragon Quest builders 2 ad at the beginning of your video! What’s crazy with the first game I never beat it I spent over 100 hours in the first area and when I was done I realized there was a whole other area. The game is massive EDIT: I got a second Dragon Quest Builders 2 ad
My husband and I are huge fans and I love seeing Kim in your videos. Couples who game together stay together! I absolutely love the matching outfits as well.
Definitely getting this but am still debating over getting it for ps4 or Switch. I'm leaning more towards the switch because I love handheld mode. Hmm decisions decisions xD
@G. P. yeah the ps4 one runs better for sure. The switch one has more frame issues in docked mode than handheld(so I've heard) and i'll be playing almost entirely in handheld. I'll be stopping by the store today to pick up the switch one, just can't resist the portability even if it has some problems. Either way the game is awesome! Hope you enjoy it 👍🏻
Once again guys, thank you for getting me into Dragon Quest all together! I never played or barely even knew what Dragon Quest was before I saw your reviews, and now I'm in love with the series. After watching this, I went out yesterday and bought Dragon Quest builders 2 and I absolutely love it! In fact, I haven't put it down since yesterday. You guys are the best and I love your reviews
Great Review! One thing I think would have gave the game even more reason to explore the huge open maps was if the puzzles for mini medals were removed and instead we had to craft a mini medal detector and then we could use it to explore the lands and look for mini medals buried underground. I think that would have been cool!
I had to do a double take watching this. I was playing DQ8 on my 3DS while watching and heard the battle music still playing after completing a battle. The music-ception was real.
Oh ya does anyone in the comments know if Square Enix has worked on the optimization for the Switch version since the Japanese release, I read the frame rates were horrible at they're launch?
I've never seen any of your videos before, but it warms my heart to see a couple happily be able to talk about games so openly and passionately. I'm sure I'll be enjoying this game for months to come, and am really hopeful that this game will Iron out some of the creases that the first one had. The building in that one felt too imprecise, I'm sure first person mode will help out in that area here.
I played DQ Builders on PS4 and absolutely loved it. I was going to wait until the reviews until I ordered DQ Builders 2. However, after hearing Kim say how much better this one is I decided to pre-order it. Thank you, Kim (and Johnny) for changing my mind.
I've never played minecraft nor any DQ games, but when I tried to port the english/spanish/french translation to the PS3 which was only japanese, I really liked the game. I just bought Judgement and unsure if I'll get it this time or by the end of the month, you guys making me go back to the store!
Awesome review and video as always! You two are fantastic together in front of the camera 👍🏼, but you two really remind me of another couple from Happy Video Game history....Alex and Luna from Lunar the silver Star ⭐️. Maybe this historical game series from Working Designs warrants a series review Johnny 🤔 . Cheers as always keep the content coming we love it.
The postman was supposed to deliver mine today - and he didn't - so I'm all sadface. Watching your video has cheered me right up though. Glad you guys love it. :)
Nate Walking straight to sequel! That’s what I’m doing, my game is downloading as I’m typing this :) The sequel is like the better version of the first one, and has way more cool features. And after you burn through the second one you can go back to the first one. But obviously go for what you think is a better option!
I've always loved your guys' enthusiasm for Dragon Quest. Can't wait for tomorrow so I can finally play DQ Builders 2. I'll get it on Switch this time around. Hopefully, i can meet people to play this game with. I've been following it since it launched in Japan. Looks like it's going to be full of so much content.
This was amazing. You guys are so made for each other. Not my style of game as I lose interest really quick with open ended games like this but the enthusiasm is infectious. Would love an update for when Kim needs a FFXI style intervention!
Johnny you remarked in the video that your now 45, i myself turn 50 next year and have been bitten by the gaming bug since the early zx81 days up to current day. Just wanted to know do you ever think your own gaming light will dim? I still can't get enough and search out channels like your's for any "HIDDEN GEMS" i may have missed. The only thing that sort off gets my goat is the looks and comments from gamestore staff, when i happen to browse through the latest releases. Almost like "What the hells that old guy at?". Not knowing of course my gaming history or catalogue. Cheers for the great show, looks like another Dragons quest could be getting clicked on soon.
Gaming never dies. I'm 40 and I intend to be gaming till I die. Getting back into pnp now too. I doubt your gaming light will die. Even if all games go woke/suck, there is always older games and the forever growing backlog.
Discover your channels a few weeks ago. Really enjoying your videos. And, because of you, I've been dumping lots of money on Dragon Quest games. (Thanks alot.) And cannot wait for XI in September. Keep up the AWESOME work!
I never got the first one, but perhaps I'll snag this game. I could use a different game from what I have right now. Plus, I trust Kim and John's opinions on games.
I pre-ordered the digital deluxe on PS4 so I didn't miss out on the digital only pre-order items. I absolutely fell in love with DQB last year and I'm so glad to FINALLY be playing DQB2 this weekend. I'm not a long-time DQ fan, just now been trying out some recent entries in the last few years. I don't think old DQ is for me, I found VIII to be too basic and plain and just okay. But I'm in love with DQB and really enjoyed DQXI.
It's funny how Johnny avoids to score the game and passes the choice to Kim! I just bought it today and watched this vid first, just to hype me up to the sky ✌️ *A Dragon Quest fan from Greece.

The Dragons Quest Builders games are my perfect sick game. I know it sounds odd, but like everyone has their favourite hoodie or pyjamas or oversized dressing gown they wear when they're feeling ill. Dragon Quest Builders is that for me. It's so calming, charming and soothing. Perfect for occupying the mind. Plus I'm a hardcore Dragon Quest fan
You guys are too infectious...I'm so tempted to buy this even though I haven't finished DQXI yet, and I've never really gotten into building games (despite being a lifelong Lego fan). It's also on sale via Steam right now, and these DQ games rarely go on sale...
Played the japanese version. Switch version had some serious lag issues at certain parts of the game. Hopefully they fixed those issues. Cant wait to play the english version!
The one thing I don't like about the new game is the building and destroying mechanics... the buttons are changed and made more difficult in my opinion.
I put nearly 70 hours into the game; I was totally addicted and I wasn't into Minecraft, but LOVE Dragon Quest! This one seems much better, in terms of having indestructible weapons this time and a much better implemented hunger meter.
wait... did I heard it correctly?? This guy is 45 years old?? I thought like 10 years younger... oh man, I guess that is what gaming does to you... you do not loose your sense of wonder and this is why you are not growing old...
or maybe just healthy lifestyle. like no drugs/alchol constantly/smoking.... eating red meat very often. And also the mindset you're not age bound like others. Most are in panic when they are already 25 and thinking about it how old they are getting. They are creating a reality and it drags them down. Mindset and healthier lifestyle makes a difference
@@capcom23 I look just like him down to the hair color, style but just a goatee no beard. I'm 40 and get carded at the stores. I like DQ Builders 2 because I like Minecraft and Dark Cloud, but since I'm not so keen on Dragon Quest, I end up skipping most all the dialogue because it never seems like the way anyone would talk in real life, only children's shows or games. And I like in Builders 2 that they still show your instructions after the dialogue so I'm not completely lost if I skipped the dialogue, unlike Builders 1.
This one looks miles better than the first. I might have to try to get back into the first one though because I never beat it, I made it to chapter 3 before I had to stop. Having to restart everything each chapter really hurt my interest. I'm not the most creative person in these Minecraft-like games so I mostly was just chilling and playing through and beginning the next chapter when available. I think I heard this game still retains that reset mechanic, but maybe with all the new features (and me knowing ahead of time that this is how it works) I'd be more tempted to just take my time and not worry about completing the chapter. I suppose I shouldn't be playing this like a traditional RPG, and just more of a big Minecraft builder game lol.
Man this is such a treat! 😁😁😁😁I love these videos Johnny! You two are very enthusiastic real people! Thank you for always being so down to earth man yet ecstatic with these reviews!
You guys really sold me on this. I downloaded the demo and there is a ton of repetitive dialogue, like 5 times as much as I've seen in any RPG. Not meaningful like Disco Elysium. Does this go away after a while or is the game cluttered with it?
Say goodbye to Kim Johnny, you'll never see her again now with how massive this game is.

just wait for PSO2
I was going to say good thing you got the ps4 version but then 8 see she's holding up the Switch version.
