Thank you so much for this series!! As a solo female who's looking ahead to building a van in the next couple of years, these videos have been so informative and encouraging! The idea of building my van myself is now far less daunting 🤗
I'll definitely be taking a closer look at both your channels tonight between the football. Already watched your latest Indian face and head massage vids. I never knew just watching something like that could be so relaxing in itself! 😄
Just binged the whole build so far and must say it's looking good and looking forward to seeing it finished. Would also be interested in seeing the total cost.
Hey Jeb, nice looking van mate! I've watched what you've put up so far and at the current rate you'll be done before me. 😀 With the way of the world at the moment I've decided to slow things down a little with my own build as we've pretty much written this year off for travelling. I do intend to get our van finished though before the year is out so I can round off my own build series. Good luck with your own and I'll check out the continued progress! 🍻👍
Looks great Craig. I've watched every video and love how the van is coming along. Its something I've wanted to do for a few years but haven't taken the plunge yet. Your videos are really inspiring me to go out and get myself a van. Can't wait to see the next video.
Thanks Tony. It was watching similar videos 5 or 6 years ago that inspired us to make our own camper too. Originally we had our hearts set on a VW T25 but stumbled across a chap who built a camper out of a panel van and we decided that was the way to go for us. I'll up my game soon to get the van finished and the videos out along with it. Unfortunately these past two months we've had things in our life pulling us away from the van and to be honest with Covid we've pretty much written off going anywhere this year. Please let us know if you do get a van, drop us a message here or on Facebook or Instagram. 🙂🍻
Thanks Cameron! 🙂 The van has kinda taken a backseat whilst the Euros were on but as soon as it gets a little cooler I'll be out there finishing the rear and side loading doors and then crack on with the cupboards. It'll look pretty much finished then but I'll need to wire it all up. Hopefully will have a video out the next couple of weeks. Thanks for taking the time to watch the videos and best of luck with your own camper! Drop us a message on Instagram if you're on there so we can follow along. 😊🍻
@@PilgrimPods yeah that’s fair enough! Looks wicked though. What rust paint did you use on the inside of your van? Yes our Instagram tag is the_wandering_wieners
Thanks so much Andy for sticking with us. Been a busy couple of months unfortunately but I'll drop the next video tomorrow and make a concerted effort to get the build finished this year ready for next. 🙂👍
Hi Craig...imperfections...what imperfections. Outstanding job mate, seen a lot worse jobs done by so called professionals?? I did my cladding in a similar way, by center screwing. In hindsight (what a wonderful thing that is) I wish I had double screwed nearer the edges as most of mine has "arched" and some has even popped out the channel...very frustrating and difficult to fix, apart from taking it all off and starting again!! I even let it dry for a month before I used it...fingers crossed yours is OK. 🤞regards Mick
Cheers Mick! 🍻 Thanks for the cladding advice, I'll keep a close eye on it. A few lengths of ours had the warped arch you mention when opening the pack, hopefully it doesn't get worse now screwed in the van. 😬👍
Looks lovely. Can I ask a question about your window frame. Where the frame meets the bonded window, is it glued / sealed? Wasn’t sure how to avoid any condensation dripping behind the cladding.
Apologies for the slow reply. I've left a gap of about 10mm and wasn't overly concerned about condensation as I'm in the camp of no vapour barrier and plenty of good ventilation. 🙃
Hi mate, thanks! Finish the SLD and rear doors, top cupboards, kitchenette, wiring and then the open road! The end is in sight and I hope to have it finished for the autumn. 😀🙌
Comin on. I did ldv camper on the cheap when I was 30. Now I'm 53 and gonna do a ducato or relay or boxer are they the right choices. Mercs and vw seem too expensive? Any hoo thanks for sharing your experiences it takes me back 20 yrs. Haha
Cheers mate. I wish I'd built a campervan 10 years earlier... I like all of those vans. My personal thoughts are the Merc and VW have a better engine but are more prone to rust and are expensive whilst the Sevel vans engines aren't as robust but they suffer less rust issues as they are galvanised. They're also a lot cheaper though Covid prices have hiked up the cost of vans across the board. I remember when looking that a five year old Relay with around 150k in tidy condition was knocking around on eBay for about £5k a couple of years ago but the same vans are now fetching £7-8k... Simple fact though is if you regularly service the Sevel van engines they'll do good miles too but they need a little more TLC than the Merc which are pretty much bulletproof. Likewise, keep on top of the rust and the Merc and VW won't have any issues in that area either. Like everything in life I say go with what you like. The big selling point for me with the Sevel vans is they're wider and you can get a larger bed in transverse like in ours to sleep widthways. If you do a build and share it on social media let us know! 😀🙌
@@PilgrimPods thank you invaliable advice. Looking at a newish ducato L3 H2 with twin sliding side doors which I figure will be a cool feature in the lounge area. We're gonna need space for grand kids and mountain bikes hence lwb. Is there a Facebook group you would recommend?
@@jeb-zf4un I'm on a few but they're all pretty toxic so can't really recommend them. The best source of advice is on the SBMCC forum. That's definitely worth checking out but it requires a yearly sub of a few quid. You get that money back with club savings on purchases though. As an example, I saved a few % on the cost of my fridge using a discount code. Highly recommend checking that out.
Hi Francis, all is well. Been busy pottering away with other things of late. Ordered the mattress though so I'm reinvigorated to get the van finished so we can use it. Hope you're well.
I'm fine Michael, just been busy pottering on with other things. Ordered the mattress last week though so eager to get the van finished over the next few weeks. Hope you're well mate.
Hi Jo, thanks for choosing to stick around! We don't have a budget as such but the plan is to build our camper as cheaply as possible without cutting corners. Cheap van (£1500) and cheap materials. The only places I feel we could truly have saved some money on is the Maxxfan and 12v compressor fridge but their benefits outweighed the high price tag, at least to us anyway. 🙂
Cheers mate! Honestly if I can do a half decent job anyone can. As I mention in the video having the right tools for the job is the trick. I'd spent so much time in the past faffing on trying to get jobs done using the wrong tools... 🙂👍
Why oh why are those windows so expensive? I only paid £2500 for the van so I cant really justify spending over £1200 on a few windows. I'm seriously thinking about making my own using hardwood for frame but I wont use glass I'll use acrylic, so much more secure, I'll let u know if my plan works lol. Bye for now Jack,
Good luck with your own windows. Pretty sure ours were less than £500 with all the fitting stuff but ours aren't the more expensive caravan style. That was £500ish for two side opening windows, a rear quarter window on the passenger side and two rear door windows too so can't complain at that. Do appreciate they're not everyone's taste but they do the job.
Thanks for the advice! 😀🙌 Yeah, when we saw the girls put that up we pretty much watched it straight away to catch their thoughts. Scarlett is a shorty like Emily so will be crawling around on her hands and knees to get to the back of the fridge! I guess the difference between their van and ours is we have a 5.4m MWB and they have a 6m LWB meaning they have more space for options. Even before watching their video it hadn't escaped us it might be awkward getting things out of the fridge being so low down but it was one of those compromises we had to make. We're hoping to have a pretty shallow kitchenette and if we housed the fridge in it the unit would have to be around an extra 150mm deep which would impact on the living area. If we had a bigger van it would definitely be in a unit and higher up for easy access but after much thought we think we've made the best decision for our own personal requirements. Hope that makes sense, but again thanks for the kind advice! 🙂🍻
