    5:03 - Just some perspective, my (now passed away) father in law was in his 80s when he started getting computer viruses left and right. I got sick of fixing his computer, so I installed Ubuntu. He got confused all the time. This was back in the Gnome 2 days. After months of problems, my family convinced me to put Windows back on his machine so he would stop complaining. I did so reluctantly, and wouldn't you know it, another virus in less than a month. After getting fed up with his PC issues, I opted to install Kubuntu, and made it look exactly like Windows 7. This old coot knew NOTHING about computers. I gave him shortcuts to Netflix, Skype, and Chrome - all where he expected them, and he unwittingly ended up being a Linux user for the rest of his life (nearly a decade), God rest his soul. So, you were wondering why someone would use a Linux distro that looks exactly like Windows, rather than just using Windows? Albeit an extremely specific use case, now you know at least one valid reason! :)

      Hey! I installed linux mint for my dad as well when his old laptop started taking like 10 minutes to boot up. My dad only needed to use spreadsheet applications or use chrome for whatever reason and that's it. Being able to use that while having the familiarity of the UI is very essential for newcomers. My dad was unsure about installing linux because the last time he worked on it was when it was mostly commands and no DE but Mint helped him a lot since it was setup similar to the Windows XP setup. Another case from a friend of mine who is not in the tech domain and wanted to use their 8 year old laptop but it's damn slow and right now they don't have the budget to get a new one. Did the same thing and even though these Linux flavours maybe a bit heavy they offer a lot of familiarity to the users switching from Windows and at the end of the day people want convenience. I'm at the point in my career where I would also like a setupless experience and not have to fix each and every issue by myself. Was it fun when I was learning? Hell yes! But doesn't mean I have to do it for the rest of my life. I am still a linux user but I totally see this angle.
      Also, I'm not so sure about this particular distro of linuxfx. The proprietary and closed source stuff does in fact raise a lot of questions in my mind because if they're using Microsoft stuff like that without their approval it just sounds fishy and like a scam.

    UPDATES! That is the reason to use this OS. 😁 One of the best things about Linux is that I choose when to update. It is never forced to reboot or shutdown on it's own but Windows will and you can't stop it! 2nd reason is forced software installs & config resets. Windows will reinstall software that you delete without your permission and wipe your config back to what Microsoft wants. Linux does not do this by itself. So having the OS as Linux but the apps as Windows is a great idea. In fact "Steam" is working on this!

Like a drug its hard to quit windows cold turkey. This distro can help people with introducing free software into there workflow without having to start over from scratch with a more free distro. I don't know about this specific distro. However, If you have to use proprietary software you can ease the pain by at least using a Linux base. In our company we are using Windows only (10k+). A small group of developers however need Linux for their work, so I build a Fedora ISO with teams, VSCode, Edge, Slack, proprietary VPN etc pre-installed. Instead complaining about proprietary software we are thankful that there is a Linux port. This enables Linux in enterprise environments where the main business is not about software. In the real world out there open source vs. Closed or proprietary software is irrelevant.
    Nobody in the company cares about us using Linux or open source, but we now at least have the possibility to use it. Twenty years ago that was a completely different story.

So having Windows 11 in the form of a Linux distro makes a lot of sense. And proprietary software is the only way that Linux will get mainstream, as that's the software that people are using and is the industry standard in pretty much every field. So people like me have to spend a fortune on a new pc or find another OS. I have recently played with Zorin OS 17 and Linux Mint 21.3 and I had issues with both. Linux was making my external hard drives "unmountable" out of the blue when they worked fine just minutes ago, and I'd have to hook it up to my laptop running windows 10 to repair the drive and make it functional for Linux again. Just be sure to install the Linux Scroll Speed Fix extension to fix the slow scrolling and turn off auto login or Chrome will ask you to login after a start/restart. Set power button to Suspend. Add or swap in an SSD, of course. Most likely prob is with wifi but you can get a plug and play dongle for $7 on Amazon.

    No need to make fun of it. You simply didn't get it. There are supposed to be people out there who are not yet Linux cracks. For them, the use of 'proprietary' applications is important so that they can continue to work directly with the PC in a Linux environment without having to familiarise themselves with the Linux world for months beforehand. And in parallel, they can also try out other, non-proprietary applications for a while. So you have as much time as you need for a proper start and a slow switch. Besides, no one will want to switch to another browser that only offers half the functions they have been used to for years. And then have to test countless other browsers just to get those functions back. And that doesn't just apply to browsers. Also, nobody wants to spend days fiddling around with a completely unknown operating system until it looks like a certain Windows. And why they don't use Windows straight away is that we all know what Windows does.

    • @mentaldisease5193
      @mentaldisease5193 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GabeNuL The settings don't matter at all. Even as a Windows user, you don't hang around in the settings all the time. Besides, there is a difference between not understanding the settings right away and still being able to work, and not understanding the whole interface and NOT being able to work. It seems that Linux users use a PC for everything but working. And I didn't say it was trustworthy either. With a bit of common sense, even a Win user does manage it, not to store his bank details and his most important work on it right away. I said it's a facilitated entry and you shouldn't get all puffed up about it. Not even if the OS is not to be recommended. Ridiculing it shows very accurately the character of the video man.

    Having a distro that mimics so well MS Windows is a good start. It would've been nice if it wouldn't have a license and if the clones would've been FOSS, but it's still better than nothing. Hopefully this paves the way into having those clones FOSS at one point.

So its basicly deaf so to speak, unless to those commands ! Like I said the AI's algorithms does Not listen to random conversations, it does not know the meaning of individual words. 13:31 "if you need Windows, just get Windows"
    Surely one of the major use cases for Win-like distros is to aid people in adapting to the _[sometimes quite jarring, off-putting change]_ transition away from Wino to Linux? On that basis alone I don't think it's valid to dismiss Linuxfx in such a way.
    Anecdotally, the first few times I tried Linux (granted that was 25 years ago) I quickly became frustrated with some of the differences and went right back to Windows [95]. 😆

    Buy the license...(10:59 is as far as I have gotten so far) as near as I can tell they basically give you the Windows 11 HOME experience for free, but if you want the Windows 11 PRO experience, that is $35...

    This reminds me of that odd Lindows OS. I'm too old for this shit.
