    Just got a set of these after wanting some for a few weeks and I’m very happy with the quality straight out of the box. Fitting was easy and I didn’t need to bleed after fitting. The company distributing them are fast and professional at communicating. I’m really looking forward to seeing how far I can take them

    I just got a set in the mail yesterday. I will put out a video in the coming months as I currently own a set of:
    1.) Trickstuff Maximas. 2.) Radic Kahas 3.) Hayes Dominion 4's 4.) and the newest Lewis DH brakes...
    So off the top, it's obvious that Lewis pulled a lot from Trickstuff. I can say Trickstuff brakes still look and feel better better. I'll have a back-to-back on all these brakes soon....I'm currently running Kahas on one bike and the Maxima's on my other bike.

    I'm not trying to be negative, just curious.
    I'm curious how they do quality control. Do they torture test every unit on a machine? I hope there won't be leaky seals.
    On Formula Cura 4 I had to rebuild the front brake as seals leaked. I don't remember how many kms I did. But atleast there were parts I could order and fix it. I hope spare parts will be easy to get. Formula Cura 4 is usless unless you buy RG Components leve upgrade which is currently out of stock. The guy making them is probably too busy doing press events for the bike brand he has too. But I managed to get a set. Before people bought all he had.
    So with my criteria it seems like Lewis is the brake to get now. As I don't want dot fluid, don't want to send brake off for service. And Lewis being a better design than Trickstuff. It seems like a no brainier if spare parts are available, but Lewis told me spare are offered. Bu ti don't see them on the website yet nor those that sell them. But it's early stages. If they do this right this might be the new king in town.

  • @mtbboy1993
    @mtbboy1993 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    These looks promising. They are piece of art. These would fit the look of my bike.
    Some call it 'Trickstuff copy'' They are definitely not a copy, yes some of the design is similar, but the bleed port placement is better than Trickstuff, plus it got the bite point adjustment. But what you said is on point. Trickstuff is super expensive, I'm sure they are good, I see they are back in stock in some retailers, but more than double the price. Less features.
    Also made in China does not mean bad quality.
    Good to see some competitive products in the brake world.
    I love that it has metal all over, bearings, no plastic bushings that wear out fast. No need to buy aftermarket lever. Like I had to do with Formula Cura 4. Ended up being similar price. I only bought one set, cus I wanted to wait for something potentially better. This seems like na valid option.
    The brake looks well designed.
    They told me they offer spare parts. So that's great. I see there is a german distributor too.

    • @mtbboy1993
      @mtbboy1993 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@generaldwarf Maybe, but if there's no pending patent they are free to do so right? They don't have any pending patents for brakes. But their lastest patent is for possibly upcoming 6 bolt to centre line adapter. The patent for the stem top cap compression plug design is still not lapsed. But they have 3 year patents on everything. So if not renewed, the patents are no longer valid. So anyone can copy it.
      If it was copy without legal way its a no go I agree. But seems legal to me.

    They look at appearances very nice, quality looking finish, i think once more reviews come out people will get a better opinion overall, I don't care if something looks like a copy, if its done well, its opportunity for improvements and a new company to make prices competitive, after all it started with one company making something and then other companies coping and improving on in the first place.

    Let us know how the lever feel wanders in 6+ months. I'm glad someone is testing brakes for us. My old juicy and sliders have reach and pad contact but they're a gimmick like you say, my guides are the worst because if you touch anything you need to rebleed to fix lever feel. They feature the anti leak hoses using stealthamajig, worst invention ever, it's a spring that pushes the olive/hose out & pushes against the piston.

    I sometimes think the big companies have to differentiate themselves from one another, even if the products suffer as a result because that how unique brands are built. I can see a resemblance to other products but agree with Alex; it's plausible these are just a 'best of' product - every innovation builds from the last...the dumb bit for me is the aesthetics...a lambo and a ferrari as essentially the same product but styling sets them apart, at least physiologically to the consumer. Seems strange to machine the reservoir caps without any imagination. Or to create a lever that instantly brings other brands to mind. If these take off (not hard to inagine), it will be interesting to see how the brands mentioned by others react. Sometimes second movers advantage is a b*tch for the innovator. Thanks for posting. Interesting stuff.

  • @Dwyane1st
    @Dwyane1st 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    At first I thought these are just some Trickstuff knockoffs, which, to be fair, stands to reason upon first look. But then after a bit of digging, I learned that they are actually a brand based in China. This explains the question at 7:10, since China is pretty much the only country in the world with such industrial capabilities that could achieve such economies of scale, which allows Chinese companies to make and sell quality products at prices unheard of in the west before. Or put it in another way, the products in the past were 'overpriced', so to speak, either because of high production costs associated with the western market, or the scarcity/preconception of brands that drove prices over the fair value of the products. Or a combination of both that led to the oligopolistic market people got used to over time. Anyway, as consumers, we should be welcoming such a trend of change cuz ultimately we are the ones that benefit from the competition.

    Everything about these brakes screams buy them, try them, but a thing I wish they had were holes for grip in the lever. How does the lever feel? is it slippery? That was a complaint the Trickstuff brakes had. I don't want to put grip tape on the lever.
    But they said they did not do it, for strength. But they decided they will try it. so maybe we will see that.
    I currently have Formula Cura 4 but they are not a valid option without RG Components lever upgrade, which is currently out of stock. A nice thing with Formula is that you can flip the lever, swap them around, no upside down, same lever body for left and right. But on the other hand, that's one extra bleed port on each lever body to worry about.

    • @matlockmeat
      @matlockmeat 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @max-eb9vi yes it gives away they are not made in Japan, else it would say made in Japan. By saying product of Japan, they are trying to be clever and bend the truth. Like Whyte bikes so designed in England...
      But cut short of saying where they are made on their slogan.

    • @max-eb9vi
      @max-eb9vi 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Product of Japan is not a "slogan" its a legal statement which depicts where they were made and in legal terms means the same as "made in Japan". Do you know why? Because they were made in japan. How you can say they are not made in Japan and its shimano being "clever" is actually beyond a joke. All you are doing is damaging what little credibility you had. It is like whyte bikes saying "designed in England" because they were designed in England. They could not state "made in" or "product of" England because they are not made in England. Like santa cruz are designed in California but by law have to state made in china on there frames because they are made in china (all be it in a santa cruz factory that is not used to make anything else) but thats a different story. You tell people to do there research in the comments but when someone like me has, you try and fob me off with statements that you have nothing to back it up with and try to discredit one of the largest names in the mtb industry that has done more for this sport than almost any other brand. In other words your mouths writing cheques that you're ass cant cash

      @@wolfpack_adventures this ist just a copy of the Trickstuff Maxima. Even the clap of the maxima fits the lewis brakes. I don’t know what’s more riling, China’s ability to copy and then somehow distribute somebody else’s intellectual property as their own, or the public’s willingness to buy the blatant copy as if that’s in any way all right. @wolfpack_adventures I posted it 3 separate times, and it kept dissappearing- but I'll give you the benifit of the doubt. But these brakes are still £90 a set on Aliexpress and this company tries to scam people into paying $570 for them. They're not the only ones- Clarks also sell these brakes rebranded as the C4s, but these brakes are mass produced in China for pennies before being resold in the west.

Alex seams to be the only genuine face behind the brand that I can find online in the uk so you will have to wait for more of these brakes to get onto bikes to get any real reviews that haven’t been sent to a TH-camr.
