**Totally agreed your views. The video meeting hosted by Indian ( country's ) women was interesting. However, the host of the show seems either lacks of up-today experiences or is completely ignorant, ashamed of being part of the public. She is more likely to influence (or uses) prejudice, American style or overly arrogant herself, where she always loses her persistence over the guest. Whether she or her government board obeys the advice of guests or not, they are all helpful, valuable and practical for India without an insult. If I'm not wrong, this is one of the most generous, righteous conversations I have ever seen from Dr. Kishore Mahabubani. All Indians should appreciate him for such great remarks. Same between Japan and South Korea, and as he said Vietnam-China. We Indians are too emotional. The other asian countries are pragmatic. They can separate economics and politics. One of the reasons why president Xi cut off the border conflict news from their general population ( those majority with no vpn) or disclose casualties was so that their people won't do emotional things that they regret and cannot take back or say emotional or disrespectful statements that hurt the other.

Since being released from servitude to Britain in 1947, India has chosen a path that means playing all the world's powers against each other as a matter of survival. For the World powers, committed to the game of brinksmanship, it means they can't trust anything India says or does. India is a nuclear power, to the chagrin of Washington D.C., which means India is not so easy to order around. For India, with its enormous population, this means not being taken for granted anymore. Few of the other countries on Earth have adopted and perfected such a stance.

I respect Kishore's knowledge and wisdom and admire his maturity in handling this this unprofessional and annoying interviewer. What prevents India and China from fostering warm and very cordial relations...on both sides? In India the bureaucracy is the suspect which is scared of loosing the power and grip on politicians and the country. Politicians rely on them heavily at all levels for critical information because most of them are not smart enough to comprehend policy papers or even file briefings. PM Modi tried to change it but quickly gave up. In China, it may be the generals who dream of their country as another policeman enforcing its will and power across the world since PLA controls virtually everything in its soil. In India the "babus" fear loosing their relevance if India upgrades its crumbling third world infrastructure and emerge as an economic/military superpower with China's help. China's economic transformation in a short span of time is unprecedented in the recorded history of mankind. There is no reason to suspect that India cannot replicate China's economic miracle in may be even a shorter time span.

      # Pakistan has become a colony of China, Its like a slave now.
      # China plays safe only with US, Because it still needs US for bettering its economy further. All other country's are use & throw for China, Including India..

Indians think China is intruding their borders. Chinese think exactly the same as the place called South Tibet is now in actual Indian rule. As professor Kishore says, stop focus only on the superficial impasse that has zero solution. Rather, move on to cooperation. @@wunhonglee8952, you're correct. In late 1970's, Xiaoping visited Spore, Japan, n Korea. (later visited US). He saw for himself the economic prosperity of these Asian nations. Japan n S.Korea are close to US so instead he asked LKY of Spore what was his secret that made Spore very successful. How did a very small country like Spore become one of the top developed countries in the world? Foreign investment, said LKY. Spore has no minerals to sell, no oil, no major agricultural products, nothing. Just hardworking n educated workforce. Foreign investment promote economic development with favorable tax policies n free trade incentives. When TXP returned to China, he was very careful not to make drastic changes bcos there were strong resistance from the old Chinese Communist top leaders. He had to devise a slow n steady change and revamp the Chinese Communist thinking. That's how the "black cat" economic slogan was born. He must also test the economic theory so that big mistake like what Mao did will not happen again. That's why he chose Shenzhen as an economic corridor bcos it was near HK n near the coast for port development. If he failed, the pain will be confined to Shenzhen only, not the whole of China. It is like taking a small sample of the food to test it, make sure it is good to eat b4 you start eating everything. The rest is history - it doesn't matter if it is a black cat or white cat as long as it catches the mouse 😀😉. He also slowly reformed the political system, moving closer to Socialism with Chinese culture as a central theme. Slowly the Chinese population enjoy unprecedented freedom n a disciplined educated workforce like Spore. Spore provided the economic model but it was tweaked and remodeled by Xiaoping to fit China's model. LKY was a lawyer trained in UK. TXP was trained in France. Both were very pragmatic. I'm pretty sure TXP grapple with this question: Is the political system determine the economic structure of a country? Or the economic structure determines the political system of a country? In the US, it has shifted. It appears the economic structure determines the political system of US. Why? Mega corporations control politics using economic power.
BTW, I'm not fr China. Just ovesea Chinese with UK n US advanced education.

The US became independent in 1776, n after WWII in 1945, 169 yrs later became the largest economy in the world. By 2050, China will pass the US economy. TXP would never dream that China's economic miracle is so fast at geometric progression bcos he has no idea about geometric progression speed in technological advancement. Perhaps, you want to know how does geometric progression work. But, he lays the foundation. That's why TXP will go dwn in history as the father of modern China.

With what exactly will you march to new delhi? That overglorified police force you call PLA? Please.

No the main mistake of Indians is not to see China as competitor but to see China as evil. That’s the black and white mindset Indians inherited from the west. If China were seen as a competitor Indians know how to negotiate and compete. But when you see China as evil there can be no negotiation.

The interviewer painting India as the perfect guy. In any border disputes, both parties claim that their rights is being violated. She insists China is sitting on India land. Then she goes on and say that it’s ok for Singapore to be clean coz Singapore is small and has large expat population. OMG! With all these excuses, how one is going to progress and improve with this kind of mind set. There she goes again ..but they don’t want to treat others as equal. Obviously she doesn’t seem very intellectual, maybe it’s her prejudices that is stopping her from being rational. 🤦‍♀️
She keeps on dragging him into agreeing with her narratives.

India has failed to excercise sound geopolitics and understand realpolitik . PM Modi lost diplomatic space in Afghanistan by looking back at US for orders ! Indian Mitary Veterans .

Indian army crossed the line and occupied Chinese lands in last Doklam standoff for a month but China only warned not fought back, populist Modi showed to Indians he's tough guy and that really helped Modi to get votes in election, finally Indian army withdrew peacefully, Xi visited India shaked hands with Modi and Modi also visited China, relationship seemed recovered well..but Modi tried to repeat again to cross into Chinese land and beat Chinese because Modi had Trump as friend also he wanted to shift focus on failed pandemic control, this time Chinese army fought back can't let Indians occupied one month again, then you see 3 Indians died in a fistfight and 17 Indian died in river or cold, Modi was surprised this time China fought back so he lost face to its Indian nationalists, so he said Chinese didn't crossed the line, but Indians can't accept it's Indian army crossed the line and got killed, that's how populism went out of control, then India keeps saying China is invader expansionist, so how did Indian die in Chinese territory?

@LanceS I'm not familiar with Sikkim, but your depiction of Tibetans as having neither their culture, language, nor religion intact is factually incorrect. Tibet is modernizing, but both the Chinese central government and the Tibetan autonomous government have invested heavily and continue to invest in the protection and preservation of Tibetan culture, including the Tibetan language.

@LanceS where you get your sources with made up claims? that is the reason why India will never amount to anything, politicians are being elected due to populism and not towards the growth of the country and the populations are sheep that the indian news blindly hate another country similar to its size. there is a saying actions talk louder than words, start by removing the caste system in india for the lower caste to have an even playing field before saying you are the biggest democratic county in the world.

    • @chengxin2928
      @chengxin2928 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@LanceS I am glad you confirmed the annexation illegal and mentioned Tibet , Republic of China's soil recognized even in London then, which was a dream ticket for British colonizers/Brits to create buffer zone north of British India. Brits enjoyed certain privileges in Tibet, China, such as armed commercial posts, post services and even some unclear diplomatic ties with Tibetan nobles. so-called Davis line and MacMahon line, named after the colonizers, show off their desire. After 1947, Chinese believed that India wanted to inherit the privileges left by colonizers and treat the Asian neighbours like or as the previous imperialist. China, either PRC or ROC, denied any imperialist attempt to corrode Chinese sovereignty. However, Sikkim failed.

I read a few of the bad reviews of this interview. But generally the seemingly bad review is actually not that bad, in fact its enlightening particularly for many Indians, if they truly look at Kishore's answer in correct perspectives:
    1. That Indian-China border is an old issue, but will never go away.
    2. That Indian, knowing that this issue will never go away, should at the same time, learn to live with it but to move forward and to engage China in a positive way, and to grow Indian Economy as an ultimate aim.
    3. Kishore used the term ' creative destruction' on Indian economy status quo just once, but its an important step for the long term good. He should elaborate this more so that the Indian populace can understand the term better. To me it could mean that opening up Indian economy will initially cause some shake-up in the normal Indian industries (or probably sees many many Chinese products will flood the market), but the subsequent new replacement indian industries will be able to compete with the world better. Effectively leads to a better and bigger future economy than the status quo.
    4. 'Don't be emotionial'= means do not just look at the recent border event and stopped the important step to engage China which is very important for Indian economy in long term, whether you like it or not.
    5. Kishore hinted strongly that all border issue, the quad engagement to go against China, and American's involvement in South China Sea are just geopolitical play, ie. American self interest as primary objective. NOT because American loves India. That was one of the issue why when the interviewer interrupted Kishore so many times with various questions, most are just the same answer.

India is finally at the stage where it can become a power player soon with the largest population. However looking at history, it has been sitting on the fence and if that is the best strategy for India -then so be it...Hopefully India will be all on board with BRICS as well as RCEP (withdrew at the last moment because someone promised a bilateral deal which coincidentally fell through) If the leadership thinks West is the way to go - then proceed at full steam ahead... recently someone calculated that good old Britannia reaped $45 trillion of resources from India during the past 200 yrs !!! so the west is not a friend after all....anyway the leaders now have matured and India has to stand for her citizens and not be played by the many goldilocks coming and wooing... if India falls for this then another $45 trillion will be extracted... choose wisely
