    In this Primal Pursuit mission, I head out to a group of offshore islands here in New Zealand, with the aim of Spearfishing a Yellowtail Kingfish. I manage to spear some nice fish and find lots of Crayfish (Lobster).
    It's a great solo dive and I have a nice cook-up on a beautiful beach.

      @@olliecraig-primalpursuit Bro, way back did a dive off south wairarapa coast, 12 foot inflatable
      25 horse yamaha, no swell as had been Nw offshore for few days, flat blue calm, mid-week, winter, coast to myself, sweet, cruised out about 800m/1k, about 50 foot deep, threw grapple anchor down, started blowing a bit, but not too bad. Had a tank so scuba'd down with spear for crays and blue cod. Grabbed anchor at bottom and jammed it tight down a crack .
      Cruised around and filled bag with big crays and big cod, getting down to red on tank,
      noticed it had been getting a bit wishy-washy so headed up. Faaark was now howling 50+ knots
      catabatic NW and fkn crazy 8-foot off-shore chop only barely a K out. (Nothing new for gnarly south wairarapa coast)
      Had come up down wind of boat which looked like a bouncing toy. No fkn way to swim uphill in that, got
      blown backward 100 metres within minutes. Dropped under and battled underwater to boat
      on dregs of tank. Only barely barely made it.. (would've ended up in tierra-del-fkn-fiego otherwise)
      P.S. When finally got back to vehicle, it was totally sand-blasted shiny clean as a whistle with both mirrors and wind-facing rear window all permanently frosted blurry...

    Hey mate. Another good one. My weekly watch over the bridge here in SA. I'm sure this has been asked b4 and don't want to put in ur head, but you guys get the same big bitey's that we get here. Don't you get worried a bit ( a lot lol)? Some of those places you are going look pretty Sharky to me.

    • @olliecraig-primalpursuit
      @olliecraig-primalpursuit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Shane, We get Sharks but not the same as SA. Predominantly just Bronze Whalers which are easy to deal with and don't attack us unless provoked etc. We don't have Bull sharks or Tigers so just leave the Odd GW but these are only common in a few places and overall extremely rare to encounter while diving. I've never seen one myself

      @@olliecraig-primalpursuit As someone who was an exchange student at a formidable age, I think home is just home to most of us. I have always felt a huge admiration and draw towards Australia and New Zealand. However, over the last few years, I have learned so much more about the specific attributes that separate New Zealand from any other place in the world. From the terrain, animals, ocean life, history, to your current Prime Minister, NZ is an amazing place like no other! Despite it being your home, you seem to have a deep appreciation for that. Nice vid as usual Ollie. Curious to know if you notify coastguard or anyone when you go out on your solo trips, more so the overnight ones. Especially if the neighbours where you park your car and trailer see that you went out and didn't come back in the evening in case they ring the cops or coast guard to inform them some boatie has gone out for the day and hasn't come back? resulting in a search and rescue operation?

    • @thor_6886

      Why does it matter what our ancestors chose to call a particular species? What Australians and NZers call "kingfish" are called "yellowtails" in the US, whereas Americans call a totally different species "kingfish". "Snapper" in Australasia are not the same as the "snapper" in the US. Why do Americans call "mahimahi" "dolphin fish"? Why do Australians call a common saltwater fish "salmon" that is totally unrelated to species the rest of the world know as salmon? The saltwater "trout" in Florida are totally different to the "trout" in tropical Australia, and they are not "trout" as in freshwater species. The list is endless. It's a pointless and a bit insulting to insist someone is right, and someone is wrong.
