Great first shave video Michael. Nothing wrong with Proraso IMO, I used it and similar commercial soaps/creams for years before I even knew about Artisan soaps and started using & collecting them. Technique get's better and feel better over time (practice). Your choices for razors are good and the Henson AL13 Aggressive is a great addition to your collection. I have a Henson Mild and it is very mild, virtually cannot feel the blade which suits me fine, not very efficient though IMO so I tend to buff quite a bit. It would be great if the Henson Aggressive was more readily available.👊😎👍
I have the Henson Mild as well and also enjoy it. I do find with it you have to apply about a mouseclick amount of pressure to get it to perform well. I can still get a great shave and can buff to my hearts content. I understand now why experienced wet shavers dislike mild razors. If you are used to applying little to no pressure and letting just the razor do the work because of its efficiency/aggression... applying pressure of any kind would just feel wrong I.m.o.
I have the Henson mild and it's the best razor I've ever owned, including a fairly pricey $100+ Rockwell which I gave away after buying the Henson. My beard is not peach fuzz, it's pretty coarse and I get a fantastic shave every time. Better than the Twig or the Merkur 34C which I also own. Make sure to buy the version 2. They made a few important tweaks to it.
Really good first video and second-time shave with the AL13 ‘aggressive’. I agree that is should be called then ‘efficient’ plate as it is not aggressive.
Apologies for the late comment, was considering buying the medium plate and or the aggressive one too, I’ve been wetshaving for 11 years and have never came across a razor like the Henson AL13, blade chatter which is the culprit in most cases of knicks and cuts seems to be eliminated with this razor sue to the design of the head, I’ll definitely go for the aggressive version if I can get it, one bit of advice I can give you because your new to wetshaving is with your lathering technique, in this video you paint the lather on, you really want to force that brush into your face and make the knot of hair splay out and scrub the soap into your face/beard, this will ensure the hair is hydrated and the lather reaches the surface of the skin beneath the hair, once you’ve done that then you can paint the lather to smooth it out before you start shaving, this should give you a smoother and closer shave as the hair will be softer and more hydrated, and also less irritation as there’ll be better protection as you’ve really worked the cream down to the skin, good video 👍😊
Thank you. Lather hog did post today that there are still aggressive razors available. I’m definitely working on improving my technique. I started this for fun and to get over being camera shy
You got me wanting to use my Parker variant soon, I absolutely love that razor. The satin finish on it makes any soap you use seem like butter, especially if you use quality artisan soap. Because with stainless steel razors like the REX they don’t glide as good, but my GameChanger doesn’t have problems like that
Remember 30° a light touch and let the razor do all the work. You will get incredible results! Soon when you put on your aftershave splash you won’t even get a much of a burn: and still get a BBS
Mention the phrase “Warm Everything-Cold Razor”. Always rinse your razor in cold water. It helps to reduce irritation. Many TH-cam sites are start to recommend this trick.
It’s actually better to pick up a really good artisan soap and then try older supermarket type software. I find the slickness and drying properties cheap soaps have on my skin to be less than desirable. Try A&E, Lothur, Barrister and Mann, PAA etc.
@@bowtiern8292 fuckin’ eh’ boss. I see it as with less slickness and cushioning of an artisan soap it’s much harder to get a desired outcome especially when you’re green still.
Latherhog posted an interview with Henson that linked a signup. When Henson saw the initial interest they agreed to do a limited run. I believe it was about 150. Everyone on the sign up had a week to go to a special link. Most of us are really hoping this initial interest gets them to offer it to everyone. That’s also why I started this channel. More views and likes will show there interest in the efficient plate (I hope)
@@bowtiern8292 Did you guys have to buy the whole razor or was there an option to just buy the aggressive plate? I'd like to be able to get one of these if they do a second run of these.
@@kma5699 latherhog arranged an online sign up to show interest after talking to Henson’s CEO. They released them as a full set not just the top. I’m really hoping they bring them back for everyone else
I have a Henson AL13 Mild. Absolutely love it. I get a BBS shave after 3 passes and I have sensitive skin. Great shave bro.

I have thought about the new version. I’m also using straights now. Thanks for watching
You're a braver man than I am. Straights scare the hell out of me. @@bowtiern8292

You look clean shaven before beginning the shave.
I think this was a day growth

I don’t have any of the Rex razors but my Stirling glides easily. It does have a mirror finish though

Thank you. I think I’ve got that part down most of the time. I still find myself using a little pressure when the razor is super light
I like 3 or 2/12 on my Parker variant

I just got my first one from Montana natural shave company. It’s vegan based but works well so far. I think A&E will be next

I’m looking at it. Not sure if the S is worth the extra cost over the C. I hear that the C glides better
