Creating Interactive Video in Articulate Storyline 360

  • In this Articulate Storyline 360 tutorial, Jeff will walk you through various ways to make your video interactive. These ways include pausing the video, asking questions during the video, and then jumping them to different parts of the video, depending on the learners' response as well as adding hotspots right on the video and showing information about the video allowing the learner to explore what they want about a video.
    These methods help the video be less passive and more interactive, allowing the learner to engage, explore and adjust as they watch it. There are many more ways to make the video interactive, but these are just ways to get started.

    Just quick extra side-thought on the Lorem feature (maybe someone posted this already...) --you can pass parameters to it as well.
    Type =lorem(p,s) where p is the number of paragraphs you want, and s is the number of sentences in each paragraph. Eg. =lorem(2,3) will give you 2 paragraphs that are each 3 sentences long.

    Thanks for the great video! I'm wondering: if I'm only wanting to do interactive videos in my courses, but I want to have as many features as possible (including branching), so you still recommend Articulate 360? It seems a bit expensive, and I'm wondering if I could get by with something cheaper?

    Hi Jeff, you offer some awesome vids on storyline. I was just wondering, can you use the button to jump other cues so go from cue 1 to cue 4 without it triggering any cues on the way?

    • @LearningDojo
      @LearningDojo  10 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      If you add the triggers just based on buttons then I think that could work. If you trigger things based on cue points then you may run into overlap but just using the buttons should be fine.

    Great video! Can this be accomplished with a video inserted from website?

    • @LearningDojo
      @LearningDojo  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's harder when the video is embedded because the page and timeline may load before the video. Things like Vimeo and TH-cam do have APIs but they have to be coded so it is tougher to do that within Storyline. I do have xAPI templates though that use the Vimeo/TH-cam API on my website. Not sure if that would help.

    Hi Jeff, a quick question. I am publishing all my content for the LMS as videos. So the output for the entire content is a video. Will this still work if we produce the training as a video?

    • @LearningDojo
      @LearningDojo  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hmm, if you are doing the video publish from Storyline then probably not. It gets rid of the interactivity, at least it did last time I tried. Most LMSs can handle SCORM output though and the video still plays as a video. Curious if you can publish that way then it should work.

  • @user-wg8bm6gs8g
    @user-wg8bm6gs8g ปีที่แล้ว

    When you are working with cue points, do you use a hot spot or some other way to NOT allow the user to control the video? If the user pauses the video, does this throw off the cue points at all?

    • @LearningDojo
      @LearningDojo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could depend on how you are bringing in the video. if it is a TH-cam or Vimeo video than yes it may throw it off because it is not using the same timeline as the Storyline timeline. If you bring in the video into the timeline and use the timeline player controls then it should work just fine and if the learner pauses the timeline it will prevent the cue point from firing until they hit play again. Hope that helps.

    • @LearningDojo
      @LearningDojo  ปีที่แล้ว

      This would be handled but page branching. So maybe split up the video into different pages and have the question pop up and then depending on the answer, jump them to different pages if I’m understanding what you’re wanting correctly.

    Is it possible to have a trigger that plays the video in reverse? To simulate a fly-in and then fly-out again situation?

    • @LearningDojo
      @LearningDojo  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm, not that I have seen. But maybe you show a layer that has a video in reverse? But you would have to save the separate video in reverse and only show it on the layer. Just a thought.

    Great video Jeff! One issue I am finding is that when previewing, if you skip any part of the video, the cue points no longer work!! Am I missing something here? SL drives me crazy!

    • @LearningDojo

      @asrowley1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Have you progressed at all with this @markbrum? This is a major issue that I have struggled with too. For me it pretty much renders video interactivity close to unusable which is a great shame. The problem is that there is a 'timeline time' and there is a 'media time' and they very easily go out of sync. It would be lovely to have a trigger which did something like 'make timeline time equal to media time' whenever something happened so that they could be forced to stay in sync.

  • @virtualtourmedia3329
    @virtualtourmedia3329 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is the best. Up until now, i've been loading separate videos for separate choices meaning more loading (for each video to upload). Madness i know. Anyway, My question is this. I know I can now use cue points for my interactive videos to play and pause for all correct answers (the main path). This will minimise or remove loading time. Great! But what about an incorrect choice, should i put these all of these at the end of the correct main path and if so, will it take a while to load to that correct part of the timeline as it is likely going to jump a few minutes ahead that hasn't been loaded yet. I can't tell you how long I've been trying to find this answer. And just in case that hasn't sucked the life out of you, I heard it is better to import to SL in its highest quality and then use their compression tool - I notice you are using Handbreak initially. Do you also compress in SL

    • @LearningDojo
      @LearningDojo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So first - I do not actually trust their compression tool for video. I think Handbrake does a better job so that is why I use that instead of relying on Storyline to do the compression. Just get better results. To answer your question about incorrect. I would actually do this on layers, if incorrect show a layer with additional content and then on that layer tell them you will take them back to a portion of the video to review or even have a smaller version of that video on the layer and then have a continue button that would either jump back in the video or just continue on the main video. Hope that helps.

      @@LearningDojo Thanks so much for the response. Just to clarify.. you would put the negative consequence videos as separate mp4 tot he main longer correct sequence video and add them as layers? I really appreciate your time here. This has been an issue we've faced for some time.

    The trouble with this video, along with many others I have seen on TH-cam, is that they do not show what the end result looks like. The main reason I am watching these videos is to see what the final product looks like once all these features have been used. Any chance you can edit the video to add that? Really difficult to get the whole picture otherwise.

    • @LearningDojo
      @LearningDojo  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your feedback. Sorry it did not meet your expectation. I do preview how the video plays and how the timeline triggers different things but are you talking about letting it play through the whole video? Or publishing it out and uploading it and showing what the learner is going to see? TH-cam does not let you edit the video once published or upload a new version so wondering if I could do a new video to address you concerns.
