The only problem with these videos is there are not enough of them! Less office work for Zach, more ride along reviews!

Nice video, thanks. I would disagree with your assessment that for only $500 more you can get a more powerful bike, so why not. To me, it's quite obvious that this bike has plenty of power and anymore would be spending money on something that for many of us, would be wasted. At least for me. I just want a fun bike to ride in all scenarios whether it be in town, freeway, canyons, or cruising down Hwy 1, etc.... Personally, I'm much older than, I'm sure, 90% of your viewers and I don't need to rip around as fast as I can. I've already survived my youth.

Yup I want the 700 for this exact reason, plus I know I’ll be more likely to fall to temptation if I get the 900

Yup. I've been riding a 1200 twin for 8 years. I don't need to prove anything to anyone, including myself. A small, light bike is fun.

Zach , while do enjoy the bike reviews, what I really enjoyed about this video was your reaction to the guy that blew by you at Mach 9. Knowing a little bit of your riding background (at least on your videos) you ride in a totally sane manner on the street. I’ve learned over the years that the best riders usually ride the safest and stay way within their abilities..I totally give you props for that ... nice job

@Donald trump's space force "why because he calls people out when they say retarded shit thats obviously false. Fuck you" Steve is entitled to his opinion but hoping for someone to crash and die because he's doing obviously controlled wheelies totally outside of traffic or crowds is being a jackass. So are you if you support that "must ride like me" attitude. I also don't believe in wheeling or driving unsafe in dangerous conditions but these were not.

Do you think Marc Marquez rides like a maniac on the street? NO, he rides responsibly and safely, just like this guy does. Hell, i was a rash egomaniac rider myself, it was only after I observed faster riders on track with smaller bikes than me humbled me a LOT.

I bought this bike because of this vid, meanwhile installed ohlins springs and ohlins adjustable shock, leovince exhaust, koso led headlight and a quickshifter. Kenny Roberts colours. Awesome bike, dont need the 900, I choose life😂

Cool, the twin has plenty of power. Don’t worry though, powerful motorcycles aren’t that un approachable. It’s up to you how much you wind it out.

    • @J2I3H
      @J2I3H ปีที่แล้ว

True, but riding your bike to its limits is fun, but I also like to keep my license+life. Ive been riding for 15 years and its my 16th bike, had more powerful bikes but I dont really care for top end power. I like the new gsx-8s tho...

  • @urbanfireblade

This is easily the best and most enjoyable to watch motorcycle reviewer channel on TH-cam. 👍
With this bike it does seem like Yamaha need to drop the price more inline with its other offerings for it to be a viable alternative, but if you like the styling over the MT07/FZ07 then I guess it’s a price worth paying. Great video.

  • @MK-hb3xc

This video sold me on this bike. I liked the potential to make it the bike i wanted and Zack's comments about the power and that wheelie away from the stop 5:00 in did it... The shadow of the front wheel lifting and Zack's giggle from what may have been unexpected. SOLD!

I love me some long gearing too - my Monster spins just below 5k rpm at 80mph, I love it.

    • @urbanfireblade
      @urbanfireblade 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

DJ MotoVlogs Mine too, and it’s only the older Monster 600 Dark with 53bhp. Tho Ducati v-twin makes its power low down, parallel twin does so too but also through its mid-high rpm so gearing it to rev lower would possibly make the power range less useable if it struggles to use its mid-upper rpm’s? Just a theory.

  • @VeganGorilla555

I think the real deciding factor between the 700 vs the 900 is the insurance (in Ontario at least) I quoted both MT bikes and I got a 60% increase with the 900. If it were simply the purchase price I'd probably go for the 900.

Love these vids Zack, can't get enough of them. If you did 3 a week it wouldn't be enough! What about sharing your commuting gear setups? What you wear when and why, how you take your stuff with you to work, do you keep different shoes and such at the office. They typical daily necessities of office life.

Insurance in my area is a huge factor when looking at a bike, I would much rather take the XSR700 over the MT-09 for insurance rates alone and not even think twice at them being very close to the same price.

Yamaha have been finessing the 270o crank since 1995 - 96 (TDM + TRX). They getting real good at it. I have a 98 TDM, often called a Tedium but it's brilliant, particularly with Kerker pipes. Great to see an all rounder bike getting your praise.

As a Yamaha fanboy, I have to agree with your turn signal frustration. Those orange lollipops are inexcusable. The Super Tenere, MT-10, etc have had clear and svelte LEDs for a while now!

aluisious You're not wrong. The platform, overall, is very good, though. I think that is what sways people. I mean, I'm not going to refuse to buy a great platform because some of the aesthetics aren't totally polished. I'm not mad, just disappointed, Yamaha...

I actually prefer the seating of the FZ 09, with the weird seating position, your so upright that when that engine goes crazy(which is pretty much all the time) the wind hits you pretty hard and that adds to the fun of that crazy bike

I was so stoked about this bike when it was announced for the USA. My CB1100 is a far prettier bike, but not as lively and playful. When the XSR finally arrived, I was certain I would trade my CB, until I rode the XSR.
I do F&I at a metric dealer and get to demo whatever I want. My demo started out great with lots of enthusiasm for the little Yamaha. Then, I rode it and my CB back to back. I still love my Honda, despite it's weight and lack of leg room. Sometimes a bike wins your soul and I just couldn't bring myself to let it go despite how awesome the XSR is.

I’m actually excited to try this bike. Yamaha may have actually made a comfortable naked bike!! Wait until your 50 years old and your knees can’t take the “sporty” riding position and your back can’t handle riding a cruiser. There aren’t very many options. Standard bikes used to be comfortable.

I have the XSR700 and I love the blinkers - cuz they can be SEEN! Tired of all the criticism. It's a FUN bike! Oh, and the suspension is perfect for the bumpy country roads I ride it on. Ergonomically it's near perfect. Plenty of torque. Does the speed limit, 70 with ease and up to 100 fairly easily if you can stand the wind (any naked bike has same problem) Handles like a dream. Im getting about 54- 58 mpg. Plenty of info on the digital display. Doesn't look retro to me as much as it does "steam punk". Not much I don't like about it.

That sweet, sweet 689 twin needs additional homes, primarily in a dirt-slinging ADV/dual-sport machine.
For the price of this XSR700 you're in the V-Strom 650 zone. Which is a way more comparable travel bike, which can also do some dirt.

  • @lokitomanny
    @lokitomanny 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I been thinking about this bike but everything that everyone loves about this home is exactly what puts me off, the engine. I am looking for a light weight not heavy bike that I could do touring and that will do well on the highway and that it would be comfortable. The XSR is more appealing then the MT07, bit still not quite there... I am only 5’8 and although I could manage on a tall bike like that because I got long legs, still it would be easier to have a closer to the ground bike.

I love the look of this bike, but the Tracer model would suit my needs better and be a little more versatile, but still a blast to ride. I wonder if they will bring the Tracer 700 model to the U.S. as they have with the MT-09, XSR900 and Tracer 900 models. I know the T7 is a year or so away as well, so maybe that will suit the touring category in itself.

Really debating selling my DRZ400SM for an MT O7, but having a hard time making that call as the dizzer is such a blast. The FZ/MT/XSR line is so infinitely appealing that it seems worth it. Reviews like this make it seem like such a no brainer choice.
The XSR looks gorgeous, but as you said in the review, it’s too similar to the other bikes and pricing is so close that there is basically no specific advantage over the other choices.
Zack, do you own any of your own bikes (seems like a dumb question) and are you even allowed to discuss that considering some semblance of journalistic integrity?

I've about decided my next bike will be a twin. Whether it will be a parallel or V is still in the air. Cost and reliability are going to be a factor. I'm not looking for a big bike, just a reliable one. I'm between the CB500 for the fuel economy and low insurance cost, the Triumph Speedmaster or Bobber for the comfort and bigger engine (and also low insurance cost), or this bike for the style and potent engine.

Reason that Yamaha made both mt-09 and mt-07 is that in most motorcycle countries more than 2 tipes driver licenses are used! There is A2, A1 and A that means unti 15h/p , until 47 h/p and unrestricted. Every next step in power is 1 or 2 years experience needed! Even if you have money to buy more powerful stuff but inexperienced you don’t permitted to do so. As Mt-07 has option for 47 restricted h/p that Mt-09 hasn’t! This’s why there’s so much models has that 45-47 h/p engines like t-max and so on!) Hope this info can be helpful for somebody!)

Really enjoy your commute videos Zack. Maybe it's the 'mood' I'm in tonight...been too cold to ride plus salty/sandy roads...but I digress. It seems that the 7 series FZ's, the MT's and the XSR's all sound like sewing machines. The floppy funky indicators and the radiator from a Volvo semi truck...all combine to make these bikes a little ho-hum...and quite honestly pretty homely. Definitely leaves me wanting something with more 'meat' and style to it. Come on Yamaha...you can do way better. Why let companies like RSD get all the glory?!

Was this bike's front end lifting off unintentionally or were you accelerating+letting go of the clutch too quick to make it pop? I know it's not relevant but after seeing you review the Indian Scout Sixty on MC Commute I've really been yearning to see you ride the standard Indian Scout or the Indian Scout Bobber, with 100hp I bet it'd hang alongside one of these in a drag race, maybe even beat it.

I didn't know they changed the Bonneville to 270 crank. When I looked at them in 2013 only the Scrambler had the 270 crank.

Really don't understand the whole blinker thing, not like they are that expensive for Yamaha to put on the bike. Didn't get the FZ07 R link video!

The small tank on this and the FZ/MT-07 keep me from buying it. The CB500F has a 4.4 gal, and the Versys has a 5 gal and the new Versys has a 5.5.

Would this be better fit for tall rider (193cm / 6'4'') than MT-07? I know MT-09 would be, but that doesn't have the sound of 2 cyl and is a bit crazy to handle.

I think you might be right.
Worth noting that here in Denmark atleast, it has 91bhp. Still the MT-07 seems like an awesome package.
However i wonder if i will fit the bike, im pretty slim but 6.3 foot high.

I can see European smirks from here.
That's too funny. (I am not sure my being British makes me a European, and I have not lived there for a long time, but I consider my snobbery noted!)
Nice looking jacket and bike you have today.
Although I now hate Yamaha after they sold me a new Tmax530 without telling me how nasty the noise is, I do love the look of this bike in the flesh.
Did you MC fellas ever get round to doing either a Honda CB1100 or V-Strom commute?
    That'd be good.
    Thanks.

    I have the FZ07.
I like how good it is on gas the most.
    Yes it has much power.
I just use it to cruise around in the country.
My cruiser uses double the gas, and has a bigger tank.
I can put $4 in my FZ07 and ride around 200 miles.
I have to fill up 4 times to ride my cruiser 400 miles.

When did Bonnevilles go to 270 crank? I test rode the Bonneville, Thruxton, and Scrambler 900s a few years ago ('14?) and only the Scrambler had the 270 crank. That had me looking for a used Scrambler that I could turn into a Thruxton, but in that search I found the '10 V7 Cafe Classic and fell for it and added it to my stable.

Yeah, retro look with plastic tank. If they made the tank out of metal with the same dimensions it would probably hold 4 gallons or more. What are those rectangular looking boxes between the font of the tank and radiator? I'd make those radiators and get rid of that massive front radiator. Can it ride two- up without bottoming out?

Being only 500 dollars less than an FZ-09 isn't a big deal for me because I don't want an FZ-09, I wanted an 07 with a more relaxed seating position and a little more room. It does seem like there's a bit of a hipster tax though.
