There are a lot of hunting vids out there, but I really appreciate how you guys break down the costs, item by item, and give people the full picture before they commit to a big decision on a given trip. This is really useful stuff.

A taxidermist friend of mine told me that if your taxidermist takes a year (which most do) then they are bums. I kinda agree. A guy has a deer of mine and I always see him taking trips, golfing, etc......when he could be working and getting my deer done
Almost like he has a life outside of work? Do you work 24/7, or do you take vacations sometimes and go golfing on weekends.
I'm taking a trip to Africa for plains game slam. May I inquire who did your mounts? I've been back and forth on whether to have them done there, your looks amazing and I'd like to explore that route more.

They were supposed to go elk hunting in the high country last winter but I have not seen anything from that.
My boss got an Audad from a ranch near the Big Bend area of Texas (we live in Texas.) So, he had the harvest shipped and then the trophy went to Graford for mounting. And he was able to get it on the way home - ish from another location. I think the whole harvest was around 5 or 6 G including taxidermy. It was one of those ranches where you can stay over night and then catch a side-by-side to your setting spots.
My boss was shooting off sticks with his .300 Win Mag at a few hundred yards. One shot, quarting to, right in the heart (my boss is that good) and that beast turned and started charging straight for him. So, he cycled another round. About the time the bolt was closed and locked, the big horn sheep dropped. He ran 50 yards on his last heart beat.
We went elk hunting, then made an awesome video about where we went and why, even sharing waypoint data and talking about the entire region and what we’d do differently.
Then, while the video was in editing we saw a popular hunting channel where they went to literally the same exact spot. And while we’re happy to share where we hunt, we decided against outing their spot.
As for the rest of the hiatus, we had a ton going on in our business that made producing these videos have to take a back seat for a while. We’re getting back into the swing of things and hate that we had to let it sit dormant for so long.
@@backfire And thank you so much for responding. And I assumed you guys were really busy. I certainly enjoyed the battle of the rifles thing to see which one would go on that hunt. Weight versus cold bore accuracy. Or is the cold bore between a light and inexpensive model any different than that on a heavy and more expensive model. Those back country hunts can have you hiking for miles just to get to a spot you can set up and even think about taking the one or two shots you have.

Ahh it’s just money… you’ll work and make more of it… you did the right thing… you turned those hunts into memories that will reminisced on every time someone looks at one of those pieces.. and that makes worth more than a little money saved…
Taxidermy is pricy, I dropped about $13k, on my first plainsgame hunt just in taxidermy. But I got 10 shoulder mounts and 7 back skins. Shipping killed me because during covid the quickest way to get it out of SA was air freight...I went from a 800 dollar shipping cost to about 4000. Covid really botched things up.

I just paid $450 for a corsican ram shoulder mount. I had to wait 22.5 months. Nearly two years! It looks good but not amazing, there's some weird stuff with the hair on the back of it's head. But as you said, it is a memory.

European mounts work for the budget minded. I used to just cut the racks off whitetails I didn't want to mount. Wish I had done all Europeans. The skulls just add character to the rack. Beautiful mounts you got though. Amazing.

Very cool.
The downside to taxidermy in Africa vs the States is that sometimes trophy tags get mixed up and you don't get back your own trophy. Lesson learned -- take metal tags and double tag everything yourself. Don't ,leave it to the outfitter or skinner.

I'd like to know whether it's practical to take home any of the meat. How does that work on an African hunting trip, where for most of us, it's halfway around the world? If meat has to be left there, does it get donated or something like that?
Nope. From Africa you can't bring the meat to the USA. The guides keep it to feed their workers, and you can almost always eat some when you're there.
@@JimHarmer I would definitely want to try it all, as that would be a cool part of the experience. I bet it would cost a lot to pack it on ice and transport back anyway. Thanks for the informative video!

Get rid of all the 6.5's for sure the .338 federal, 35 wheelen.
@@R.S.G879 If the only thing you want is just enough to get by, I could just go with a 7mm-08 and have more access to more varieties of factory ammo and better brass like lapua and norma. After the 7mm-08, every .284 cartridge will whip the 6.5s. Of course you have to use the heavy for caliber, high bc bullets just like the new 6.5s. 7mms, for hunting, offer the best balance for energy and recoil. If you want to shoot steel all day, and then recoil becomes an issue, and thats what these cartridges were created for in the first place. MY opinion, no offense.
African taxidermy is not on average the same quality as having it mounted in the U.S

go to your local library, no matter where you live in the United States. Tell the librarian to show you where the ‘United States Code books’ are shelved. There are 25 books in the set. They are reddish-brown in color. They are printed by the Government Printing Office in Washington, DC. These hard-covered books are printed every 8-10 years. They are updated with annual soft-back supplements each year until a new hard cover issue comes out. At the present time, the 1988 hardbacks are on library shelves.
OPEN VOLUME 9. The page numbers are in the center near the middle binding. The section numbers are along the edges.
TURN TO PAGE 651. Here you will find Public Law 87-297 which calls for the United States to eliminate its armed forces. This law was signed for the United States in 1961. John F. Kennedy signed it and every president since has worked to enact its provisions. The government knows you will not approve which is why they want to take away your firearms. (This is Title 22 USC section 2551)
TURN TO PAGE 652. Here you will find the definition of what the government means by “disarmament.” The disarmament calls for the elimination of our armed forces. It also calls for the elimination of weapons of all kinds.
(This is Title 22 USC 2552 (a).
TURN TO PAGE 654. Here you will find it stated as item (a) “control, reduction and elimination of armed forces…” and as Item (d)” …Elimination of armed forces….” What you need to know is that your armed forces are being eliminated and relinquished from national control which, in turn, wipes out our sovereignty as a nation. In two stages, we will have no more army, no more navy, no more air force. In the third stage, we shall have a “zero” military. Before Stage I closes, all citizen owned guns are to be banned.
(This is Title 22 USC Section 2571 (a).
Public Law 87-297 is further explained in the State Department Document called Publication 7277. Your librarian can also furnish you a copy. Also ask the librarian to get you a copy of “The Blue Print for the Peace Race.” It is a 35-page booklet printed by the United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency as Publication No. 4 - General Series 3 - Released May of 1962. Publication No. 4 is the unabridged version of State Department Document 7277.
Both of these booklets explain how our military is to be reduced to 2.1 million men. China and the Soviets are to be reduced to that level also. At this point, we are at Stage I at which time we are to transfer (on a permanent basis) one-half of our armed forces to be merged with the Russian and Chinese armies. In Stage II, the remaining one-half of our armed forces is then turned over to this same Security Council of the United Nations. The person in charge of the merged armies must, by agreement, always be a Russian. The world’s smaller nations turn 100% of their armies over to the same under-secretary of the Security, Council in Stage II. President George Bush and Admiral Wm. J. Crowe [have referred] to this process as being “in transition.”
TURN TO PAGE 655. On this page in Volume 9 of the United States Code, read “Policy Formation.” The directives there (written in 1963 to pacify objectors) are supposedly to restrain anyone from disarmament, reducing or limiting our armaments, or taking guns away from the people unless it is pursuant to the treaty-making power of the president, or if it is authorized by further legislation by the Congress. (This is title 22, Section 2573.)
Every couple of years the House of Representatives votes to appropriate funds for this on-going program. Since P.L. 87-297 was first passed into law in 961, there have been 18 updates to it - all bad - with no deletions of these issues I lay before you now. The Congress knows that the plan includes the policing of the United States by foreign troops. (The world army they are forming in Europe.) The Congress is allowing our military bases to be closed down, except for those that will be used by the world army. You will find that plan in Publication 7277 and in “The Blueprint for the Peace Race.”
If the president and Congress can promote a “Constitutional Convention” you will find yourself with two new constitutions (communist in structure) which in one states in Article VIII, Section 12: “No person shall bear arms or possess lethal weapons except the police and members of the armed forces….”
The Congress has praised these documents and is on record in Senate hearings seeking ways to install these constitutions. Ask your librarian for “Revision of the United Nations Charter - Hearings Before a Subcommittee (Foreign Relations) Feb. 2-20, 1950 U.S.Government Printing Office.” Nothing has changed since. They are still viable. The ultimate goal to be reached in Stage III of the disarmament process is to “proceed to a point where no state [nation] would have the military power to challenge the progressively strengthened U.N. Peace Force….”
Anyone who doubts the truthfulness of what has been presented here is free to go to the library and go through the steps which have been outlined above. While you are at it, look up Public Law 101-216.

@@backfire when I have to eat meat once a week I don't hang the cow's skin on my wall... Liking dead animals skins and furs is a mental sickness
Instead of wasting the head and fur, we use it in our home to remind us of the beauty of the animals there. Somehow you think it's "sick" that we use the all of the animal, but the animals you eat have their heads and furs thrown in a large heap and are left to rot. Both you and I cause for animals to be killed so we can eat them. The only difference is I use more of the animal to remind me of their beauty, when you just waste those parts.
Usually great videos, but seeing you having such a positive reaction to seeing a dead wild animal kind of creeps me out. Out of curiosity, how do you reason the morality of killing a wild animal? Not particularly interested in the actual killing part but in the fact that it is a wild animal and it requires disturbing the ecosystem.
Why would you watch a channel about shooting and hunting if you find hunting immoral?
If that’s the position you’re coming from, no comment I can type out here will justify my position to you. So let’s just agree to disagree on this one.
As he said, it's a cull hunt. These hunts are targeting older, nonproductive animals, or ones with inferior genes. Often, these older, nonproductive bulls will keep the younger, breeding age bulls away, so nothing gets bred. Buy culling these bulls, it gives the younger guys more years breeding. It actually improves the ecosystem, not disturbs it.
