Thanks for reviewing my gun! I love mine in 7mm Rem Mag. I'm a new shooter but my friend helped me with load dev, and he said as much about the mag, tons of space. It shoots every ammo I've thrown at it and has never failed in any way. That's why I bought it as my first gun, I'm 40 and I don't need an awkward beginner stage using 400$ guns, buy once, cry once.

By far my favorite rifle. The price for what you get is amazing. A flawless working action with a chassis / stock hybrid, a magazine which functions just as smoothly as the action. My con and maybe another reason it's overlooked is it feels plasticky. Also I wanted to test the Sako cold hammer forged barrel claim about no barrel break in needed. During the first 10 days I shot 20 rounds per day with no cleaning in between. My group size and point of impact did not change. I will never buy another brand again.

GREAT REVIEW!! I bought a plain Sako synthetic in .270, 14 years ago.
I used 8-10 shots to sight in, then shot a 5 shot group I could cover with a nickel(100yds).
It has made trips to Kansas & back to Alabama a few times, and is my main rifle in Alabama. Each buck I've shot died quickly, if not in it's tracks.
The amazing thing is that I have NEVER had to adjust the scope! Ever! (Nikon Monarch 3.5-10).
It has held perfect zero all these years.
I am still impressed with it, But! This S20 set-up has my buying trigger finger itching!!😅

I wanted a larger caliber for bigger game, but I was honestly a bit intimidated about the recoil, after shooting a friend's 7mm Rem Mag with no muzzle devise. With a good compensator or suppressor, the Sako S20 in 300 WM is quite tame. I can shoot it all day long without the abuse. Very impressed with the accuracy. It's certainly more accurate than I am.

I have found my Tikka Tx .243 shoots very close to this when I do my part. You can sometimes come across an off the shelf rifle that shoots almost everything good and somethings excellent. While rare, they do exist. Back in the 90's I went through several factory rifles, with factory ammo looking for that shooter. Something I found was in every shooter I came across, which weren't a lot was the firing pin strike on the primer was dead center and exactlly the same every time, (comparing spent rounds and primer strike) Coincidence? I don't really believe in coincidence any longer. This wasn't just in centerfire rifles but the handguns I found to be most accurate also. Maybe it was just me believing this but it was something I initially noticed by accident. I wasn't as knowledgeable about weapons at the time. Still no pro but I am experienced.
Edit: With all that said the most accurate rifle I have owned to date was a Sako action custom build .22ppc.

Hey! You're reviewing my rifle! I picked up a Sako S20 Hunter recently, chambered in 6.5PRC with the 24.4" fluted barrel. I love it! Your description of the action, feeding and ease of use is absolutely spot on - I have a semi-custom 30-06 based on a Borden Timberline action, and the S20 feeds better, doesn't jam-feed if loaded slow (the Borden really needs to be slammed home or it sticks/misfeeds) and the Sako safety is fantastic.
I like the ability to lock the bolt - ensures it won't open even slightly when going through brush
The option to unlock the bolt and clear the chamber is a great safety featture
The "fire" indicator is in the right position to be seen at all times, even when you're behind the scope
I wish all my rifles had a similar safety mechanism.
My old Mauser-actioned Parker-Hale .375H&H has a three-position safety, but the Sako version is slicker and arguably "safer".
You can't unintentionally knock the saftey past safe with unlocked bolt like you can with the Mauser safety - the Mauser safety will go all the way from safe to fire if you push it just a little bit too hard. Easy to do when your hands are cold or if you're wearing gloves.
I live in the UK, so acquiring new rifles is a slow, complex & heavily bureaucratic process otherwise I'd buy myself another couple of S20's in other chamberings. The 6.5PRC is just about perfect for UK deer-hunting though, so I'll happily stick with that for now
Another great video from Backfire - please keep them coming

Depending on the ammunition your shooting 3moa may be all you get, the cheap 55 grain target ammunition is frequently 2-3moa. I’m always for upgrades but if you’re on a budget making sure it’s not an ammunition issue first can save you some money.

    • @Kesssuli

@@jaydunbar7538 And one thing is that most 1/7 twist barrels just wont like 55 grain ammo.

My 1/7 HK and Lothar barrels have done overall very well with 55s.
Overstability is not a problem, just that the bullet defects pronounce in high tw barrels. But it is mere percents up to 10% which is not much, since the crappiest bullets shoot bad anyways.
Bulk ammo (Norma, Geco, GGG, SB, etc.) all shoot 1.3 to 1.8moa average 5 shot groups. Just test which ammo your gun likes and buy a lot.

Great Rifle, well deserving of some LOVE with all of the features it has. The Precision Stock can be outfitted with an ARCA(need the right length and some creative thinking) and picatinny rail with the M-lok slots on the bottom. With my addition of the ARCA plate this rifle ticks all of the boxes I was looking for(QD cups, Adjustable length of pull and comb, threaded muzzle for a CAN, integrated scope mounting, cerakote finish). Only gripe is the aesthetics, and make sure the stock/action screws are torqued before a hunt or range session.

Sorry for spamming your feed, one more question, if anyone here can help - this rifle, when taken down into two parts - how long is the action/barrel portion? I'm getting that Savior Equipment 'Ultimate Guitar Case', which is 45", and want to know if this rifle will fit into an even shorter guitar case. Purpose is discretion, not concealment, just FYI.
Is the barrel the same length for 30-06, 7mm, 6.5PRC and 300WM? Or is it like the Tikka where 30-06 and under have a 20" barrel, and everything over 30-06 has 24"
    Thanks guys.

Agree on the feeding principle. I also use this when choosing cartrigde. The new «straight» cartrigdes like the 300wsm are not good for reliability. The 6,5x55 and 3006 are much better for hunting with their more cone design.
Also, the systems where you safely can have a cartrigde in the chamber, like the Blaser R8, is soo much better for hunting. No making noise and getting stressed out loading the rifle.

The S20 is perfectly suited for 300WM and 7RM.
The extra weight in those chamberings is an asset. A perfect rifle for anyone who wants unimpeachable quality right out of the box with no interest in after market upgrades or modifications.
My Sako A7 desperately needed an after market stock to realize its potential.
The S20, though not a budget rifle, is a very high value pick compared to its competition.
The Sako 90 is prohibitively expensive for most people… it’s pushing into semi-custom cost territory.

With the Tikka you can get all of it.
I believe they use the same barrels from their own factory.
And the aftermarket possibilities for the Tikka t3x is sooo much bigger.

I have been shooting the sako S20 in 300 win mag with great accuracy. A very unique adjustment of the trigger pull 1/2 inches forward and backwards in the action. the rifle will fit every person, short stature to Russians with 15 inch plus trigger length pull. sako S20 accuracy standards are 5 shot group, (not three) in under an inch group @ 100 yards. the weight of the rifle being slightly heavy, is not a bad thing in the 300 win mag with a break. the magazines are crazy cheap like $30. was told that sako spent a ton of money and time on the research of the sako S20 which had a lot to so with the sako 90. amazing new technology !

Vanguards are easy to find well under $1000 the street price on the Sako 20 is almost $1300. Not to take away anything from its value or performance, clearly it is worth every penny and maybe more. Loading the S20 with a hotter and heavier cartridge, the extra weight might be appreciated with .300 Win Mag, 30 PRC, etc.

I’ve kept all my communication with them and will one day make a video of the chain of events leading up to them washing their hands of any responsibility of replacing it as they told me they’re not going to fix it.

At somepoint i wondered what is so special in Sako and Tikka action what some people told once in while.
That became very clear when i handled ruger, remington and one Sabatti at
range. Didnt know how much it matters in bolt-action if racking a bolt
feels like there is gravel between metal surfaces.
Well im thankfull for that experience to realise smooth action is not something which will come as default for every rifle.

I mean when I measure the butt stock from elbow/bicep crease to the trigger guard, my index finger passes the guard by half the tip of my finger...The store clerk says that I would have to buy stock extenders..I own Benelli, Browning, Savage rifles, and I have never seen stock length issues for any of them. Glad to finally see a Backfire review of this gun! I've had mine for over 2 years now (chambered in .30-06, also with hunter stock), and I just love it! Great accuracy, and the removable stock makes it really easy to pack into a small space when going on a hunting trip (to me this is one of the best oft-overlooked features). To me the heavier gun is actually an advantage, it has less recoil (especially with my suppressor and muzzle brake), and it's still not too heavy to carry around comfortably. I've taken 10 animals with it so far (African plains hunting, 2 Eland and 8 Springbok).
What bipod do you have on there? Is it attached to the swing swivel stud? I'm looking for a nice bipod to use with this gun, and have been considering perhaps getting the precision fore end (but still keeping the hunter stock rear, that thumbhole is just great) with the M-LOK system.

I have a .222 reming bolt thatkl do between a 1/4 and a half , but a inch is good enough for anyone shooting off hand or at a deer or human size target, if you zero your scope the .222 and the .300 win mag do good anywhere from 300 to 1200 yrds, its jus setting zero at the longer ranges at that point

Now you’ve peaked my interest, I’m thinking of getting something different as I’ve built several large and small frame ARs with my pride and joy being a large frame .308 that took me about 18 months in total to afford the exact bits and pieces I wanted in it to make my version or attempt to at the time of a capable dependable repeatably accurized gas gun, I’ve found using M118LR 175gr SMK I can reliably get right around .75 MOA, it can likely do better with a steadier then myself, I’ve had several back surgeries and have nerve damage in both arms along with getting up there in years if you know what I mean, my end goal is to take it out to 1,000 yds and hopefully ring steel at least once before I croak lol, I think a good bolt gun might be just a tad more forgiving maybe, and it’ll give me the reason to save up again especially for an optic, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on the Leupold MK5 HD and that might just be a winning combo for me, I don’t hand load so I need something that can reliably shoot factory loads accurately.
